"Friendly Staff but Some Services Fell Short"

We had some problems with the cable that took about a month to fix. They said there was Wi-Fi, but it was never strong enough to use in my mom's room. They told us it would be improved, but it never happened in the eight months my mom was there. The room, especially the bathroom, was always clean, but the faucet in the kitchenette leaked and dripped. The staff was really great. They were friendly and treated my mom very well, but someone from our family visited every day. However, they were often understaffed, and Mom sometimes didn't get her baths on time. Despite that, they were very kind. If she didn't come to meals, someone would check on her and bring her something if she wanted. The meals were generally pretty good, especially breakfast, but there usually wasn't a second choice offered. Breakfast was really early, before 8 am. There wasn't anyone to run activities on the weekend, so often it was up to the residents to run an exercise DVD or use puzzles or games left out for them. But the activities director tried very hard to include my mom in what was offered during the week. It wasn't the cheapest place, but it was very comfortable. If all services had been offered as advertised, it would have been a bargain. As it was, we were satisfied.

"Assisted Living Falls Short on Service and Cleanliness"

We've had lots of problems with my mom needing help and waiting for hours. The food on the menu isn't always available, and the servers sometimes say it's not there. The medicine isn't managed well. It seems like they're trying to improve, but our experience hasn't been great. There's often a smell of urine in the back hallway.

"Changes in Ownership Impact Quality at Assisted Living Facility"

When my mom stayed at this place, they switched owners. After that, things weren't as good. It took longer for them to respond when we needed something, and the food wasn't as tasty. Before the change, I'd have rated the food a 5. The director was great though. Mom enjoyed the church services they had, but she didn't do much else there.

"Nice Place, But Not for Special Diets"

This is a very nice community. They just wouldn't take anyone who needed thickened liquids, so he couldn't be accepted there.

"Assisted Living Facility Review"

Overall, it's been mostly good. We had a few issues, but they weren't really the facility's fault. They worked closely with us during the transition, which was nice. The place is also kept very clean, which we appreciate.

"Neat, Friendly, and Responsive"

The place is really clean and tidy, and the staff is super nice. They listen to feedback and fix problems really fast. I would definitely tell others about this place based on what we've seen.

"Great Place to Live with Friendly Staff and Clean Facilities"

I recently moved into Elmcroft, planning to stay just briefly, but I've ended up staying for 4 months because I really like it here. The staff is amazing they’re always smiling and ready to help with anything. The kitchen team is great too; the food is delicious and there’s plenty of it. The building is very clean, and I noticed right away that there’s no bad smell. That’s because they clean all day, every day. Each resident’s room is cleaned weekly, and the trash gets taken out three times a day. The management team is always available if you need to talk. When they say you’ll feel at home, they’re right you’ll feel like you’re at home, but even better!

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"

I was really impressed when we first visited. I picked this place for my mom as I would for myself. However, we soon noticed many people, including staff, leaving. The food wasn't good, but there's a new food director now. I suggest having a family member eat with your loved one. A new director is coming soon, which I hope means more focus on the residents. Sometimes there aren't activities because the person who drives the bus has to take residents to doctor appointments. They need more staff and another person to lead activities.

"Elmcroft: Good but Understaffed"

My mom lived at Elmcroft for a year. We liked the place—it was easy to find our way around. The locked doors made us feel safe. The decorations were nice, and the food was good. The new activities coordinator tried hard to make fun things happen. But remember, when you visit, places always put on their best face. I’ve seen other senior living spots before. Elmcroft is good, but they don’t have enough staff. The people working there are busy and trying their best. One time, lunch was late because only 2 staff members were serving. The direct service staff (RA’s and nurses) were nice. Elmcroft’s leaders need to hire more people or get involved themselves. Maintenance issues took a while to fix.”

"Great Place with Friendly Staff and Happy Residents"

I was really impressed with this place. The building is well-kept and the locked entrance made me feel safe. It was clean, easy to get around, and the staff were all friendly. The residents seemed happy too. I hope my loved one picks this place for their next home.

"Great choice for Mom!"

My mother lives here, and the staff is very attentive. When she fell a couple of times, they called me right away to let me know. Everyone is friendly and makes you feel welcome. She enjoys the meals, and they have a family dinner next week. I chose Elmcroft because we wanted a nice community close to my house.

"Safe and welcoming place with caring staff spacious apartment available."

My parents just moved here, and they're still settling in. I think it's a safe place, and the staff is really nice. They're starting to join activities and get used to living here. I picked this place because I liked the staff and how everything is set up. They got a three-room apartment here, which was great.

"Very wonderful place."

Elmcroft is amazing. I'm so happy with the "family" there. Our uncle was ready to give up, but now he's happy and getting stronger. Everyone there smiles, both the residents and the staff. We feel very lucky to have found this home.

"Great Staff!"

We moved our mom to Capella's from another facility. It's new, with a fantastic staff! Since she's been here, her quality of life has improved. The staff engages her in activities and conversation, encouraging her to be more active. She's comfortable and still finds enjoyment in life.

"Comfortable Assisted Living, Good Care, Minor Concerns, Overall Positive Experience"

My family member stayed here for four years. We left because she needed more care than they could give. Still, it was nice, no problems or worries. Overall, it was a nice place.

"Relieved and Grateful"

Our representative, Jenny, was wonderful. She was very thorough and helped me find communities I hadn't located myself, including the one I chose. Elmcroft of Byrd Springs has been fabulous for my mother. She is 77, and I couldn't get her to eat right or take her meds correctly. Now, she has settled in, made a couple of friends (even though she's not a social butterfly and is more of a hermit!). Just walking was a chore for her before. It's amazing—we can have pleasant visits, and she's even exercising regularly. Her mentality and demeanor have changed dramatically. Thank you! I think I may finally get to know the mother I always knew she could be, instead of someone living in misery. She has found her happy place!

"Challenging Experience with Uncompromising Director"

My mom stayed at Elmcroft for a month and a half. We chose it because her previous place was too pricey. They told us they'd check in after a month to see if it was working out. She was there six weeks, two of which they were quarantined due to a stomach bug, and mom wasn't allowed to leave her room. The boss walked into my mom's room one day to find her in a t-shirt and underwear, but made a fuss about her not wearing pants, even though she was alone in her room. The caregivers loved mom but the boss was hard to deal with. She scheduled the review a week late, so we lost our community fee because it was only refundable within a month. Then she told us my mom wasn't suited for assisted living and needed to leave. The facility has a small activity room and is shaped like a donut, meaning you have to either walk outside via the courtyard or go around the entire place to get anywhere quickly. The entrance lobby is nice but the residents don't hang out there because there's no TV. The activities manager wasn't easy either. The folks were bored on Sundays, so I offered to occasionally go in and call out bingo numbers. But she wanted a fixed commitment every Sunday for the activity board, which I couldn't do. She just made it challenging to volunteer. Our experience wasn't great there. I was put off by the boss from the get-go. Her attitude was off-putting and unnecessary.

"Great staff and nice, simple layout"

Elmcroft is very clean, and the people I helped noticed how clean it was, too. I got to know some staff members, and they were always nice and friendly. From what I saw with the people I was working with, it seemed really good. They listened to my concerns and followed up on them. They have family nights once a month with different themes. I went to three, and they were fun. A guardianship took over, and the person I was helping didn't want to leave. He liked Elmcroft because it’s open, easy to get around, and the staff is accessible. I chose Elmcroft because the staff understood their residents' needs and were always available if I called. It was easy to talk with them, and I liked the simple layout, which is great for people with memory issues.

"Overall positive experience for 10 years but some bumps in the road"

My mom lived here for ten years until her early-stage dementia became too much for the facility to handle. Under the most recent management, the service exceeded our expectations. The staff worked tirelessly with her, even when her dementia made things challenging. The facility is secure, the food is pretty good, and the rates are reasonable for the care provided. Just don't expect a lot of attention, especially on weekends. While medication assistance, meal reminders, and showering help were quite good, dressing and keeping clothes clean were sometimes lacking, but that was also due to my mom's dementia.

"Limited Activities and Difficult Bingo at Assisted Living Facility"

Had trouble with visiting times, they asked us to keep our distance after she first moved in. Doesn’t really look like there are many activities, despite them having an activity coordinator. The activities don't look like they're suitable for the residents. The bingo game was hard, it's fast-paced and they can't find the images before moving to the next round. It's not the usual bingo we're used to. There are no card games, either. The food tastes alright but needs more variety. The place itself is very pleasant – rocking chairs available on the porch to sit and unwind. There's an open courtyard but it lacks shade and can get too hot. When it rains, they have to go around the courtyard to reach the dining area, as it’s not under cover.
