"A Caring Home with Plenty of Activities"

I think the staff at this place is really caring and there are lots of activities to do. There are many different things to choose from each week, which is good for my loved one. Everyone always smiles at me and treats me and my mom with respect. I'm really glad she found a place where she feels at home and has made so many new friends and things to do.

"Andara's Assisted Living: Understaffed, Low Quality, Only Money-Driven"

My mom has been in Andara's assisted living for a couple of years. They've switched management teams three times in the past three years and things have only gotten worse. They stopped the live music and happy hours they used to have every Saturday, and they don't have enough staff in their assisted living. We've pleaded with the people who own the place to fix these issues for the past two years, but they won't. They only care about making money. Right now, the food here isn't even good enough to eat most of the time. Please, don't let your beloved family member stay in Andara's Assisted Living.

"Decent tour, not the right fit for my loved one."

The visit to this place was okay, but we felt like it wasn't the best choice for my family member right now. They told me everything I needed to know and answered all my questions.

"Excellent Assisted Living Facility Offers Safe Virtual Tour During Pandemic"

I took a virtual tour of this assisted living facility because of the pandemic. The staff was very helpful in showing me around through video chat. They answered all my questions and showed me the rooms and common areas. I liked how clean and organized everything looked. The virtual tour gave me a good sense of what it would be like to live there. I appreciate the effort they put into making it feel like I was really there, even though I couldn't visit in person.

"Nice facility with different room layouts"

I toured Andara and it was a really nice place. The rooms were arranged differently, so my furniture wouldn't have fit.

"Assisted Living Needs Modernization"

The activities are starting again, but we have some feedback. The community is old-fashioned; they lack online access for meal and activity viewing. Everything is still on paper, which we wish could be online for more interaction with our loved one.

"Avoid Andara for Assisted Living: More Issues Than Solutions"

Trying to make Andara a better community is commendable. There are lots of different style homes and the surroundings are nice, like the peacefulness of the waterfall at the pool. There's always something to do, thanks to a really dedicated Activities Director. The Finance Manager is committed to helping with any financial requests. I give a shout out to the lovely person I saw every week at the front desk! But I'll tell you, do not consider the assisted living part of Andara. That's why I've given it just one star. There were many problems that I saw. For instance, the staff changed so often that new faces constantly showed up, causing some confusion. The nurse hardly ever seemed to be in her office and staff squabbles caused a lack of teamwork. Lots of mistakes kept happening like wrong information being sent to the hospital. I also had to re-do paperwork that I had already filled out before which was really annoying. The care plan for my loved one wasn't updated like it should've been and I felt like chores like showering and laundry were being neglected. Personal items began vanishing from my loved one's apartment with no response from management. What's even worse is that some staff made fun of or were rude to residents. Even though there's been 4 different directors, who are trying to make things better, the assisted living part of Andara is just not good. There are a lot of other places that give better care for the same or less amount of money. Based on my experience, I strongly advise against choosing Andara's assisted living for your loved one. It will only lead to heartache for both you and them.

"Untrustworthy Management Ruins Senior Living Experience"

The quiet environment and decent food were the only plus points. The dining staff and receptionists were generally pleasant, with a few even impressive. Now that I've said the good parts, let me tell you why under no circumstances you should entrust your elderly loved ones to this facility's care. They can't be relied on to be upfront about the level of care your family member will be given. My father settled in this place in August '17 and experience neglect was widespread. Management was far from understanding, rather, they were defensive, condescending, and arrogant. Despite knowing I was his only family (living out of state), they failed to inform me when he was hospitalized (two out of three times). Their former ED, was at best dishonest. My dad was in rehabilitation for a whole month while he was still paying full price, including cleaning services. I sent a friend to check his room after three weeks of his absence to find moldy food in his fridge and an unbearable stench in his room that they had to air it out. I confronted this with, the director of health & wellness, only to be told her staff had checked and found the room in "excellent condition." You've got to be kidding me! Just two days before my dad was due to come back home from rehab, The director and a staff member visited (after persistent requests from Advanced Healthcare of Scottsdale, a commendable facility) and later that evening, a legal eviction notice was served to my dad. You don't ever return your elderly to such a place after they've handed an eviction notice. Your loved one would just be doubly neglected. He was supposed to return in a day and a half. This is just a single example of their business ethics. The parent company? It's mysterious without any contact details apart from a form. A big warning sign. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! AND WHEREVER WORKS, DON'T EVEN CONTEMPLATE TO ADMIT YOUR LOVED ONE THERE.

"Avoid this Facility and Its Deceptive Practices"

The building at this assisted living facility is pretty nice, and the food isn't bad. Most of the time, the folks who serve the food and the people at the front desk are great. Some of them are even awesome. Now that the good stuff is out of the way, let's talk about why you should NEVER EVER let your family member stay here. These people will not tell you the truth about how they'll take care of your family member. The people who run this place act superior, selfish, and really awful in ways I can't even describe. They knew I was the main person to talk to about my dad since I lived out of state, yet they didn't even tell me when he had to go to the hospital two out of three times. One of their former executives is, to put it lightly, not an honest person. My dad was in rehab for a month, during which he was still paying for everything at this place, including to have his room cleaned. I sent a friend to check his room three weeks into his rehab stay, and they found all sorts of gross mold in the fridge, and the whole place stunk so bad, they had to open the windows and get out. I told this to the director of health and wellness, and she insisted the room was “spotless and it smelled good." Can you believe that?! Oh, and just two days before my dad was supposed to come back from rehab, the director and another staff member visited him (after his rehab center had been asking them to for over a week). That same night, they sent me a 14-day eviction notice for my dad. Who does that? He was supposed to come back to their care in just a day and a half. This just shows you how they treat their 'clients'. Don't even get me started on the company that owns this place. They don't even have an address or phone number, just a contact form on a website. That should tell you a lot. You need to avoid this place. And if the director ever works at another facility, don't let your loved one go there either.

"Avoid This Facility and Its Former Director At All Costs"

The building is nice, and most meals are quite tasty. Many of the front desk workers and waitstaff are really friendly and good at their jobs, with a few that are downright amazing. But let's not beat around the bush here. You should absolutely NOT trust this place to take care of anyone you care about. This place doesn't seem to care about telling the truth about the care your family member will receive. My own dad moved here in August '17, and let me tell you, it's been a mess. The management here is all kinds of trouble: they're defensive, rude, selfish, and even worse. Even though they knew I was my dad's main contact and I live out of state, they didn't bother to let me know when he was sent to the hospital on two separate occasions. And their former executive director? At best, she's just a liar. My dad was in rehab for a month and he was still paying the full cost for this place during that time, including cleaning services. When I sent someone to check on his room after he'd been gone for three weeks, they found mold growing in his fridge and the room was so stinky they had to open all the windows and clear out. Despite this, the director of health & wellness insisted that her team checked the room and claimed it was "spotlessly clean" and had no bad smell. You've got to be joking! To make matters worse, two days before my dad was supposed to return here from rehab, they visited him at the rehab centre (after it took them over a week to respond to requests for a visit) and dropped an eviction notice on us that same night. They said we had 14 days to move out. Can you think of anything worse than sending your loved one back to a place that's just kicked you out? My dad was supposed to be back in his room in less than two days. This is just one example of how they run this place. Looking for the parent company's contact info? You won't find an address or phone number, just a contact form. What does that tell you? Steer clear of this place. And if you're ever thinking of moving a loved one to a facility where the former director works, think twice.

"Very happy with this community"

Things are going well for my Mom here. She enjoys the activities, especially the exercise classes and bingo. She also likes the food, which has a lot of variety and options. They try to accommodate what the residents want to eat. I'm happy with the care she’s getting. They sometimes miss small things, but overall, they are patient, kind, and sensitive to her needs. My Mom has dementia but is still very sharp. We moved her here because she can mingle with both independent and assisted living residents. She has made lots of friends. The facility also offers a Catholic service, which is very important to her. I would recommend this place for people who are independent or need a little help.

"Alarming Safety Issues at Assisted Living Facility"

This assisted living facility looks nice but has serious flaws, especially when it comes to taking care of its elderly clients. My family had a really bad experience here. In one instance, my mother needed assistance in the night and pushed her call button, but the staff didn't follow their standard procedures. I unexpectedly got a phone call on my cellphone - not my house phone or any of my brothers' phones - at 1 a.m. from a staff member. My mom was, shockingly, left alone in the hospital emergency room. Several mistakes were made that night. It took me seven calls and three weeks to finally get hold of the director, and no one even bothered to check up on my mom who had been living there for two years. There was another troubling incident a year before. My mom was unable to press her buzzer that morning as required by residents to show they're okay, yet the receptionist insisted they had seen her. Almost a full day later, she was found, severely dehydrated and unable to stand up after a fall. Turns out, her emergency buzzer was not even functional. With all these safety issues, perhaps it’s not surprising that they've had three different directors in the past two years. Despite their convincing promises of improvements, nothing appears to change for the better. Don't be fooled by their sweet talk about future plans; judge them on their present actions.

"Beautiful place, but no walking paths"

The tour was great. I give 5 stars for the fancy decor and amenities. There's a pool, lots of nice patios, a lovely bar, and all the common areas are beautiful. The rooms are really spacious with full kitchens and laundry. The only downside is there are no outdoor walking paths, so you have to use the public sidewalks nearby.

"Great care in a friendly community!"

I’m happy that my friends are in a nice place for care. The staff is always helpful with their needs. The community is clean and well-kept. The menu offers a healthy variety of meals. They enjoy the activities and are participating. They have a great two-bedroom and love this environment. We recommend this community for excellent care.

"Different and No Availability At the Time"

The tour we took at this place was nice. But my mom didn't like the community's decor—it was a bit dark and not her style. When we spoke with the representative, there were no available spots.

"Friendly staff and clean, but more activities needed."

The staff here are friendly and help Mom make friends. She enjoys walking her dog outside, which has improved her leg strength. They could offer a few more activities, but the food is excellent with many options. The community is clean, and Mom has made positive changes.

"Dismayed By Management and Facility Condition"

Absolutely disappointed with this place. The staff, led by an unpersonable manager, were not friendly at all. There was dust everywhere in the corridors and the carpets hadn't been cleaned. The people taking care of the dining room seemed too young and lacked work experience. I've definitely come across superior facilities in the past.

"Top-notch care and community at Andara!"

Everything at Andara is amazing. I wouldn't want my mom to live anywhere else. The staff are awesome. The food is so good, my mom can't stop talking about it. The place is super clean, it's perfect. She enjoys some of the activities they have. I totally recommend this place. Thanks to A Place for Mom for helping us find it.

"My Thoughts on Andara"

The food is usually pretty good. The dining room tables are often taken by exclusive groups who don’t want you to join them. The dining staff, however, are excellent. Activities mainly cater to women and are attended by women. Movies are chosen by women. Having my own car makes things easier for me. Unfortunately, many residents lack cars and are limited in their ability to see doctors or go shopping, depending on when Andara transportation is available.

"Quality Decline and Overlapping Activities at Andara Assisted Living"

The workers at Andara are nice to my mom and us. We've noticed the food and some services aren't as good. Some activities happen at the same time, so she can't do everything she likes. The place is kind of clean, but the carpets need cleaning; they have stains and smells. I'm not sure if I'd recommend it yet.

"Looks nice and clean, helpful staff!"

I met with a tour guide who showed us around the community. Even though there are a lot of stairs, I noticed a few elevators. The place looked very clean and well-kept. The staff were super nice and helpful. I really liked the modern style, and everything looked great! Kim from A Place for Mom was a big help.

"Hungry? Eat Before You Dine!"

The way they handle seating in the dining room isn't great. If you don't have at least three other people with you, you'll end up waiting until three single diners arrive. Waiting hungry is tough, and it's also embarrassing to just sit there hoping someone will join you.

"Great care, minor billing issue"

Mom stayed at Andara for just 3 weeks before she got better and came home. The staff took good care of her. I didn't try the food, but Mom didn't seem to like it. She didn't join any activities. The only small problem was with the billing department.

"Waiting for a Full Table"

The only thing I don’t like is the seating in the dining room. If you don’t have 4 people, you have to wait until 3 more singles show up.

"We’re Mostly Happy, with Some Room for Improvement"

We’ve been pretty happy overall. The food makes them really happy. I think there are some small improvements the community could make, like better hallway vacuuming and a bit more orientation. Everyone is friendly, but it’s a bit of an adjustment.

"Great place for my mom"

My mom loves having a washer and dryer in her apartment. The apartment is really nice and the decor is pretty. Everyone has been super helpful and attentive to her needs. The only downside is some residents are very attached to their dining seats and don't welcome newcomers. Maybe having someone seat everyone would fix this.

"Good staff, but some extra charges apply."

They always try to keep my mom happy and meet her needs. There are a few extra charges that I think should be included in the care package. But they respond quickly to any needs my mom has. The medication service they use is quite expensive, and guest meals cost a lot too.

"A Wonderful Place for Mom"

After my mom broke her hip, she needed to stay in an assisted living facility. We were worried about her living alone and becoming more isolated since she was driving less and her friends were in the same boat. We wanted a place where she could move from assisted to independent living easily. The first few places we visited were clean and had nice staff, but they felt too much like nursing homes. Then we found Andara. Even though it was almost new, it was being renovated. The place looked more like a luxury resort than a senior facility but still felt warm and welcoming. Every staff member we met was kind, professional, and caring. We signed the papers right away! On Mom’s first day, an “Ambassador” took her to the beautiful dining room for lunch and introduced her to her new friends. But there she was, still in the dining room, chatting and smiling with her friends. I left with a big smile on my face. Andara has in-house physical and occupational therapy, so Mom didn’t have to go anywhere else for her treatments. The therapist was so caring and always kept me updated. I was worried Mom wasn’t getting out enough, so the therapist encouraged her to join exercise classes on her off days. Guess what? Mom went the next day and made more friends! When it was time for Mom to leave assisted living, we had a family meeting. Mom didn’t want to give up her home, but we asked her why she wanted to eat alone every day. We convinced her to look at the independent living apartments. They were so clean, modern, and spacious that she decided to give it a try. A year later, we know we made the right choice. Mom is so happy. The staff is always courteous and professional, and they truly care about each resident. Andara is smaller than other places, so it’s easier to keep track of everyone. Once, I couldn’t reach Mom by phone, so I called the front desk. The friendly lady there told me she had just seen Mom heading to Bingo! Mom used to say she didn’t like Bingo, but now she goes every day. She walks to three meals a day, plays Bingo, and exercises daily, so she’s much more active than she was at home. There are lots of activities and trips outside the facility, so residents can be as active as they want. Our last challenge was getting Mom to give up her car. We suggested she try the shuttle that takes residents to different shopping places each day. She loved it! It’s much safer, and it makes us feel better too. Andara also has a “limo” (a bright red Cadillac!) that can take Mom to doctor appointments when we can’t. I can’t say enough good things about Andara. Mom is in a much better place socially, physically, and mentally than she was a year ago. If you’re looking for senior living for your loved one, you should definitely tour this facility!

"Doesn't feel like senior care home, could use reimagining"

I dropped in to talk about my mom. But honestly, this place didn't come off as a retirement home to me. I've got doubts about its suitability. The guided visit was okay, but the facility itself didn't feel right. They really need to revamp their understanding of elderly care. It's almost like a vacation line ran into Sin City. The layout is all off. I couldn't assess the caregiving or the activities as it doesn't apply.

"Very nice place, a little too big for us"

My parents stayed here briefly; overall, very nice place. Unfortunately, not a good fit for them. The facility is beautiful, well-kept, and clean, with friendly and helpful staff. However, it's very large, and the rooms made it challenging to get to meals and activities. Would be wonderful for those without mobility worries.

"Looks Can Deceive: A Beautiful Structure Hiding Poor Service"

The saying, "Don't judge a book by its cover," is quite fitting in this case; a captivating exterior, hiding an unpleasant reality. The food here is substandard, excessively salty, and often undercooked. They frequently import most fish and meat from South America and China. Because of low staffing, the dining room's service is unsatisfactory. The previous Executive Chef, who had earned high acclaim in video reviews, recently resigned. He seemed amiable and diligent but left disappointed. The decline in the food quality and overall ambiance started roughly two years ago after S.L.C. took charge, changing Andara's name from Arte'. The staff turnover is alarmingly high due to inadequate pay and lack of appreciation. Several commendable employees resigned after S.L.C. took over - most just walked out. Searching "Senior Lifestyle Corporation complaints" would show detailed staff grievances. The management's careless attitude is shocking, tending to be adversarial. They show a cold-hearted and rude demeanor towards the residents, especially when complaints are raised, many of which, are ignored despite being genuine. So, don't buy into the inflated hype and misinformation. The first falsity is the claim that it is a "Family-Owned Community"; it's a corporate-owned facility, not owned by the Management Company. To those seeking a winter refuge, be prepared for disappointment. Complaints are indeed a common soundtrack here. Be cautious of positive reviews scattered around to inflate ratings. We, the seniors, have worked hard and made sacrifices throughout our lives. We certainly deserve better than this.

"Top Choice for Assisted Living with Great Food and Care"

This is the best place for my mother-in-law. She lived in two other assisted living places in Cottonwood, AZ, but this one stands out. The food is excellentI’ve eaten there many times. The staff are really respectful and attentive to all her needs. Just walking in the door will impress you. "A wonderful place for my dad!"

My 96-year-old father was living in another local retirement community. When it was time to renew the lease, the price for his apartment was going up a lot, so I decided to compare where he was living to other places. I found Andara (it was called Arte at the time), and it was a much more affordable option. While price was the reason I moved him at a healthy 93, it is clear now that we made the right choice. First, Andara is a smaller, more personal community. The whole staff is very attentive to my father's needs and treats him with dignity and respect. When I’m not in Scottsdale, I can trust Mary, the Executive Director, to call me if she or the staff have any concerns about my dad. That gives me peace of mind. There’s also a new quality care program from ComForcare with trained people to help in many ways. I chose the GoodMorning/Good Evening service, where they check in on dad twice a day, seven days a week, and he is very happy with it. You pay by the visit (and you can decide how many visits per week), not by the hour. Dad doesn't want or need someone in his room for a full hour, so this has been great. Second, the food is excellent! Chef John and his staff make meals with fresh ingredients, and they don't serve the usual frozen, boring foods. Our family often joins dad for Sunday brunch, and we've even had Easter brunch there instead of going out. Dad always says there’s plenty of variety. Third, there are lots of activities. Dad enjoys the nightly movie in the theater and the puzzle room, but there’s so much more to do. As a Catholic, he appreciates receiving communion at Andara on Wednesdays when local church members visit and having his blood pressure taken at the wellness clinic. Transportation is easy to use, and dad gets a ride to church every Sunday. Our family is very happy with the move to Andara, but it’s my dad’s opinion that matters most, and he enjoys living there.

"A Wonderful Place for Mom to Thrive!"

My mother moved to Andara this past year after looking at different independent living centers in Scottsdale and Phoenix with her three children. She was feeling too isolated living alone and wasn’t eating well. My mom was hesitant to leave her beautiful condo, but after some encouragement, she agreed that it would be nice to make friends and be more active. Her one-bedroom apartment is small, but it is designed so nicely that she loves it. We also didn’t want to go to a place that required a huge "buy-in" deposit. That didn’t make sense for her. I’m writing this because Andara has been more than we ever hoped for. My mother is SO happy and has made many close friendships with other residents. They are lovely, kind, and very welcoming. The entertainment is truly amazing, with several events each week before dinner in Josephine’s Lounge. Don’t let the fancy dining room and leather-bound menus fool you— you can enjoy gourmet dishes or just have a cheeseburger, which is wonderful! The daily continental breakfast is incredible, with the best homemade fruit pastries I’ve ever tasted. The staff is friendly and compassionate and goes above and beyond to make everyone happy. The facility is beautiful, like a cruise ship, with amazing libraries, a theater, and a beauty salon. I can’t recommend Andara highly enough. There’s dancing, fun, Bingo, Wii Bowling, shopping trips, and complimentary town car service. Our family is so thankful to have found Andara. We know our mom is safe, happy, and honestly as active as her kids now!

"Mom Loved Living Here!"

My mom lived on her own at Andara for about a year and then moved to Andara’s assisted living for the last month of her life. She loved it there! Her one-bedroom apartment was bright and had space for her baby grand piano. The place is beautiful, well-decorated, and elegant. My mom was worried she wouldn’t make friends or adjust, but she had nothing to worry about. She met some wonderful, interesting people who became good friends and supported each other. The staff at Andara is amazing. They know their jobs and do them really well. What surprised me the most was how the staff always went “above and beyond.” They always looked for ways to make the residents more comfortable and worked hard to meet their individual needs. They are kind and respectful, and it was clear to me that they are there because they want to make a difference in the residents’ lives. I think this is one of the most important things about places like this! My mom told me many times how happy she was to have moved from the Midwest to Scottsdale and how much she liked living at Andara!

"Arte striving to be even better."

We recently moved a relative to Arte. It's a beautiful facility, and the food is superb. Since it's not at full capacity, some things weren't perfect, but the staff was always willing to fix any issues and make sure all our relative's needs were met. It's now under new management, and great things are happening. Our relative enjoys the activities and everything they offer. He feels welcome, has made new friends, and knows the staff cares about him. We have peace of mind knowing that even though he's living independently at over 88, he's in a place where he can thrive and get help if needed. The new management is asking residents and families for ideas to make it even better. New residents are moving into the lovely apartments every week. Make sure to take a tour if you're looking for a place for yourself or a loved one. You won't be disappointed.
