"Great Atmosphere and Excellent Amenities at Brookdale Central"
After checking out a bunch of places, Brookdale Central Paradise Valley had the best vibe. It's cozy, easy to get around, and super friendly! The room sizes and the things they offer to residents are way better than the other spots we visited. I would recommend Brookdale Central to others, and I already have!

"Terrible Assisted Living Facility with Rude, Neglectful Staff"
This place doesn't even deserve 1 star! It was TERRIBLE! I'd never put another loved one in there. It's like a nightmare house. The boss was rude and didn't take the blame for the bad stuff my poor dad went through. They put on a nice act during the tour, but it was full of fibs. The cost of my dad's care was crazy high, especially since he was ignored. They knew how upset I was with the care my 104-year-old dad got. They never said sorry to me or my dad—they blamed everything on us. I guess I was supposed to watch the staff because that lazy boss never checked on anything. She expected me to tell her when things didn't improve. If that was the job, I would've been in her office all the time, complaining. Some of the staff told me my dad wasn't the only one being treated badly. They asked me not to give their names because they needed their jobs. It's very sad!

"Better Staffing Needed"
The staff is nice, but they need more workers. Waiting for help takes too long—sometimes 20 to 45 minutes. The food service is slow, and meals arrive cold. They should offer more food choices. Not everyone wants Chinese food every week. After New Year's, the room cost went up by $, and personal care costs increased too. Expect to pay between $ and $ per month based on the care level. The medicine prices are a bit high.

"Issues in Assisted Living Facility Need Addressing"
The people in charge and those who help out don't talk enough. The activities for those with memory issues aren't good. It's not okay that residents can't go outside in the courtyard during the day. The bathrooms need to be made better. They're not good for people who use walkers or wheelchairs. The food isn't very good. It feels like the meals you get in grade school.

"Friendly Community with Room for Improvement"
What we really like about the Brookdale Central community is how friendly everyone is. The positive atmosphere from all the residents really makes a difference. Even with fancy stuff, the people are what matter most. One thing we think could be better is how often they take out the trash in our loved one's apartment. We know it's partly our loved one's responsibility, but sometimes it smells when we visit. Despite this, we would recommend this community to other families.

"A Caring Community with Pet-Friendly Amenities"
I recommend this community for loved ones. Make sure it meets your care expectations. They serve three meals a day with choices. Staff brings meals to residents’ rooms. Families can join loved ones in the dining room. Activities include bingo, field trips, and more. Pets are allowed, and there’s a lobby time to see them.

"OK for some, too formal for independent seniors"
I checked out this place while trying to find a home for my mom. It seemed alright, but it wasn't right for my mom because she can do more things on her own than most of the folks here. The place gave me vibes of a proper nursing home and felt a bit more formal due to the way things were run. Even though, the space is well looked after and the staff keeps it very clean. However, it cost a bit more than we expected and the rooms weren't that great. Still, I would suggest this place to folks who need more help in their everyday lives.

This place is really great for my mom. The people who work here are nice and always ready to help. The food is good, and they have lots of fun things for her to do like concerts and crafts. "Deceptive Facility Provides Disappointing Care!"
My mom only spent 12 days in this assisted living community because our experience was absolutely terrible. The staff didn't seem to care at all about the residents and there were never enough of them to meet everyone's needs. We were told that there would be a nurse at the facility at all times, which turned out to be untrue. The nurse director was totally disorganized and was absent the night my mom had an accident. She explained that she sometimes works from home, which doesn't make any sense. The director is extremely hard to reach and never returns calls. This place seems great until you actually move in, then it's just atrocious, with unfulfilled promises at every turn. I would strongly advise against sending anyone here.

"Great Spot, but Lacking in Quality"
The only thing I enjoyed about this place was where it was situated. I wasn't a fan of all the apartments being inside one building; it felt too much like a hospital. It was filled with lots of long hallways and an unpleasant smell was noticeable throughout the building. To be honest, I wasn't blown away by the whole setup and I wouldn't want my family member to live in such a setting.

"Underwhelming Facility Experience and Questionable Billing Practices"
My mom lived at this assisted living facility for nearly two years, starting in June 2015. That very summer, we had to use a portable air conditioner for three months because the regular AC wasn't working. To accommodate this, we needed to leave the patio glass and screen door open constantly which, if not for makeshift cardboard barriers, would've left my mom's place accessible to anyone. My photos prove this. During the next winter, a space heater was necessary to keep warm—it sat unused in her closet when we moved her out in April 2017. There were periods where the water was turned off due to plumbing issues, causing missed showers and disposable dining ware use because dishwashing was impossible. Upon announcing we were leaving, the facility made me calculate the final bill myself since she was moving mid-month. Now, I still receive invoices claiming money is still owed. Bill amounts for services were changed without notifying us, after maintaining the same rates for over a year. If such issues persist, I'm considering reaching out to local news outlets for a follow-up story. Although my mom was easygoing and didn't want complaints to taint her relationship with the staff—who actually were good—she deserves a better-maintained facility.

"One of the best tours I took!"
This was one of my favorite tours of the different communities I visited for my mom. The staff was super friendly and seemed really organized in how they ran everything. I was impressed with the apartments and all the amenities they offered to the residents. The only downside was that they didn’t have a memory care unit, which my mom would need eventually. If they did, this would have been our top choice.

"Disappointing Experience with Overpriced Assisted Living Facility"
My mom has spent almost 4 years in this assisted living facility. Initially, it was fantastic. Good food, attention to all requests instantly, and well-controlled temperature settings made it a comfortable place. But, things have taken a downturn over the last year. Like most businesses, management transition happens and it did here. The new manager attempted to impress visitors with a revamped dining area, but the food quality drastically dropped. Both my mom and her relative complain about the lousy food, especially the excessive use of spices and the over-reliance on fish. The air conditioning is another source of trouble. Arizona can get blistering in the summer, and the constant AC breakdowns are unbearable. My mom often can't sleep in her bed due to the heat, moving to the couch where they provide a large fan. She once almost slept in a chair outside her room! It's outrageous considering she pays nearly $3,600 per month. To make matters worse, they're increasing the rent by $200 next January. She's planning to move out soon. I wouldn't recommend this place for your loved ones. It feels like a rip-off considering the terrible conditions: they need a new cooling system and a serious overhaul of the food service.

"Brookdale disappoints: Poor food and constant facility issues amidst high rent."
My mom has been a resident at Brookdale for the past four years. Initially, it seemed like a pleasant place. I was comfortable leaving her there. For a week, we ate with her in the dining room and it had a nice restaurant-like ambiance. The food was fine with many options available. They had this cool feature that could tell if a resident had left their room in the morning and they'd check-in if the person didn't step out. However, things started deteriorating as years passed. The surveillance system they covered in their sales talk was taken down. The dining experience changed – mom now complains about them serving too much fish and chicken. She says the food tastes terrible. Despite redecorating the dining room, the food still disappoints! Moreover, she mentioned an issue with the air conditioning last summer, which had her sleeping on the couch as her room was too hot. Further, the water would often be turned off and the heating acted up in winter. Despite the constant rent hikes, problems persist and the food is still horrible. After seeing her menu, even I had to agree - the combos like rice with meatballs seemed bizarre. I want better for my mom. It's heartbreaking thinking she has to spend her final years amidst such conditions. I would discourage anyone from sending their parents to stay there. It saddens me that mom is enduring this.

"Decent Spot, But Dining Experience Could Use Improvement"
This place has welcoming people working there and it’s kept really clean all over. I did get a chance to check out the hair salon, which was neat as well. However, I was kinda let down by the dining hall. Nobody came around to give me my food and I don’t think the stuff being served was fresh. Plus, I couldn't figure out the layout of the dining setup.’

"Highly Recommend this Place for Loved Ones"
First, I want to say that this place has the best staff ever. Everyone is super friendly and caring. The Executive Director talks to all the residents. She’s always hugging them and smiling when I see her in the living room. The building had some issues, but they seem to have fixed everything. My mom is so happy living here, and I'm grateful for this place. I can ask questions, and everyone is so helpful. I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a home for their loved ones.

"Unappealing Facility, Overbearing Care, Great Staff"
I had a pretty poor time at this place. What bothered me a lot was how dirty the facility was, and my apartment wasn't even ready when I arrived. The meals they served could really use an upgrade. On the plus side, the staff was super nice and drove me wherever I needed to go. But the level of care was a bit too much for me. If someone requires more attention, they might like it here.

"Brookdale doesn't meet high care level requirements."
We had planned for my father-in-law to stay briefly at Brookdale until he was well enough to return home. During the brief period, it didn't seem like they could take care of him as they had promised before his move-in. He fell a few days before he was meant to leave; the staff's response was confusing. Instead of taking him home like planned, we went straight to the hospital because of the fall. If you're looking at Brookdale, it may be better suited for seniors who are still very independent and don't need a lot of care. It does offer many activities and decent food.

"Avoid Brookdale: Poor Living Conditions and Employee Treatment"
I really wouldn't recommend this place to anyone thinking about living here. A few of my friends have lived at Brookdale in the past couple years, and it's not the same anymore. People who work here seem to hate their jobs because of how Brookdale treats them. They're not supposed to be friends with the residents and if they are, they get in trouble. The apartments are in bad shape, they need some serious fixing up and there's always issues with the plumbing. And the worst part is, they have a big bed bug problem. To make it even worse, they deceive the residents by saying they're termites instead of bed bugs! The food isn't good at all. I've complained many times for my friends, but Brookdale's managers just tell me they'll look into it. I really suggest you stay far away from this place.

"Mixed Experience at Brookdale Central Paradise Valley Assisted Living"
Brookdale Central Paradise Valley has good and not-so-good parts. The staff is super friendly. Some things need fixing though. The hallway carpet is really dirty. Also, there aren't enough tables in the dining room. Many people prefer sitting alone. They should add more two-seater tables. The lunch options could be better too. Plumbing and air conditioning took too long to fix. The landscaping needs work. There are blinds lying around that should be thrown out. The upstairs parking on the north side is too dark. But mainly, the carpet is just gross.

"Struggled to Secure Necessary Services After Moving In"
Our visit was brief, with a nice apartment deserving of a solid five stars. The issue arose when trying to secure the care she required. I felt like I was hitting a brick wall each time I tried to contact someone. The front desk seemed clueless. I couldn't get the nurses to give her the attention she needed, neither could I get them to return my calls. There was all this talk about a personalized care plan, but it felt nonexistent. When we were initially looking for a place, they were super responsive, but that changed once we moved in. It was as if they disappeared and I couldn't get anything done.

Among all the assisted living locations I've visited, I'd stick this one at the bottom of my list and I'm not giving it any thought. There's no way I'm letting my mom live here. My overall assessment of this place gets a grade of 1 star. I'll give them some credit for cleanliness though, that deserves 3 stars. The staff seemed nice, so that's a 4-star rating. "Old Motel-feel Facility with Salesy Attitude"
On my day of touring different facilities, this one was my least preferred. During a staff meeting with the residents, I saw the Executive Director engaging heatedly with a male resident. She was being super disrespectful. This resident was merely suggesting something that would benefit everyone living there. This suggestion was a genuine health concern, but she harshly criticized him for it. After witnessing this awful display, I'm now looking for a new care facility for my parent. This is the worst example of leadership I have ever seen. "Brookdale Place: A Clean, Friendly Assisted Living with Room for Improvement"
My folks just moved to Brookdale Place a month ago. Things are going okay, but the food could use some work. Instead of juicy roasted turkey, they serve pressed turkey, and the burgers are dry, and veggies are overcooked. If they jazz up the menu, I'd rate them higher. The place is clean, though the laundry room washers need better cleaning. Overall, it's good. The staff is super friendly and caring. The nurse and physical therapy folks are nice, especially she , who helped us out. The apartment my parents have is bigger than others we saw, with a sweet view of the courtyard and pool. It takes time to adjust to a new place, but right now, I'd say they're doing pretty well.

"Good Activities and Transportation, but Food Needs Improvement"
The value is decent overall, but the food could be better. It's included in the monthly cost, which is nice, but the quality isn’t great—like cuts of meat with a lot of fat. On the positive side, the activities are enjoyable. My family member lives in independent living, so she doesn’t get full care, but they do clean her apartment weekly. They also have a shuttle service that takes her wherever she needs to go, and she can just call them for a ride back.
