"Excellent Care for New Residents"

The care and service for new residents are excellent.

"Poor Communication and Neglect"

My friend stayed at this assisted living facility, but communication was a struggle. Calls were dropped, and they couldn’t locate her when she left. The company profits, but staff and residents suffer.

"Inadequate Communication at Overburdened Assisted Living Facility"

One of my pals lived at this assisted living place for a while. It was really hard to talk to her because the workers kept disconnecting my calls. I'd have to try several times before finally getting through to her. When she had to go the local hospital for a bit, I was left in the dark about where she was since the staff claimed to be clueless. After she eventually left this place for one with better care, I mailed her a letter in care of the facility. But the letter was sent back with "not here" and "unable to forward" written on the envelope. When I rang them up to inquire, they claimed to not have any idea about her whereabouts. But, my friend doesn't lay the blame on the employees; she thinks they're just too overwhelmed with work and not paid enough, hence their shortage of time. She feels the company makes loads of money, but it's not doing a good job looking after its workers or the residents.

"Bad Assisted Living Experience: Broken Promises and Underqualified Staff"

This facility is really bad. My mom's been there for a good few months now, and hasn't had any of the things they said she'd get--like help with her doctor, going on outings, or joining in activities. They don't have enough staff, they never pick up the phone, and a lot of the workers there aren't either nice or trained properly.

"Stay Away: Staff Unfriendly, Promises Broken, and Services Lacking"

This place is really bad. My mom's been there for a few months now and none of the stuff they said would happen has--like helping her talk to her doctor, joining in on outings or doing stuff. It looks like they don't have enough people working there, they never pick up the phone, and a lot of the workers aren't nice or trained right.

"Good for Active Residents, Some Room for Improvement"

Every time I visit my mom, something else is wrong. Her room isn't as clean as it should be; they could do a better job picking up the floor. But it is a beautiful community, both inside and out. The staff is nice, and they have a lovely patio area. The level of care could be better. The food is wonderful, and the chef has even talked with my mom to ask what she likes. Unfortunately, we have to move her to somewhere less expensive. I would recommend this place for someone who is more mobile.

"Mixed Feelings about Assisted Living Facility"

Every time I visit my mom, something seems off. Her room could be cleaner, especially the floor. The community looks nice, and the staff is friendly. There's a lovely patio area. But the care level could be better. The food is great, and the chef even asks Mom for her preferences. However, due to costs, we're considering moving her elsewhere. I'd suggest this place for someone more independent.

"Unpleasant Experience at Ventana Canyon, Poor Treatment of Elderly"

When we began searching for a place for Mom in an assisted living home, we had a discussion with the Executive Director (ED) at Ventana Canyon. This was a couple of months ago. The ED was friendly and we were convinced that Mom would feel right at home. Turns out, their definition of family is far from ours. We're currently relocating our mother, a process that's tough all around, but even harder for elderly folks who struggle with change. The ED has shown disrespect to Mom and other residents, once even causing Mom to isolate herself in her room for two days straight. I strongly advise families to chat with staff and other families before choosing a facility. Not every ED is the same, ensure any promises made are in writing. All this ED seemed concerned about was making maximum profits from renting out rooms.

"A Pleasant Stay for My Loved One"

My family member stayed here for a short while, getting care in the memory care area. They seemed happy, and I liked visiting. We chose this place because they had space when we needed it. And when we picked them up, all their stuff came back with us.

"Dad's Stay Was Great!"

My dad stayed at this place briefly, but I liked how well they cared for him. The people who worked there were kind and made sure he felt as good as possible. He didn't have any problems with the food and liked the place he stayed in.

"Paid for Promises Unfulfilled, Plainly Disappointed with Facility"

Our experience was unpleasant within the first week of moving in. They didn't fulfill their promises. Soiled undergarments and pull-ups were left lying about, including some with feces on them in her closet. The promised round-the-clock care was non-existent, as nobody was on the premises overnight. When we decided to sign her out, my spouse had to scour the place searching for a staff member. The memory care area was a mess with scattered papers and absent personnel. They also misplaced her glasses and failed to inform us when she ran out of her meds. Despite a promising initial impression of the facility, they didn't deliver the services we paid for. We're plainly disappointed with them.

"Good place, transitioning for the better"

Brookdale Ventana Canyon is a decent place overall. While there have been a few small challenges (like communication and some care services), they're actively addressing these issues. They recently brought in a new manager to help. Right now, they're in a transition phase, but signs point to things improving in about a month. It's a nice place with friendly staff, especially if you're looking for a spot for an elderly loved one.
