"A Mix of Good and Bad"
Everyone is really helpful, but the leaders aren't great. The staff is wonderful, though. They have lots of activities, from spiritual to physical, and the quality is good. My loved one's studio apartment isn't spacious, and they never replace anything. The appliances are super old, and maintenance requests take forever. The caring staff can't make up for the poor management.

"Great Staff and Food, Needs Better Communication"
It's excellent here. The staff are very caring, super friendly, and easy to deal with. But they don't communicate well with each other. If you ask one person for something and it's not their job, it doesn't get done until you find the right person. The food is really good and tasty. The only problem is they don't serve any condiments like salt, pepper, mustard, or ketchup. You have to ask for those. They keep the place very clean. It's an older building, so you hear a lot of wind noise in the windows, but that's because of Arizona's heat. My apartment is pretty nice and comfortable. The facility is old and a bit worn, but they do a good job of keeping things fixed and up-to-date.

"Friendly and Convenient Assisted Living with Good Communication"
Everyone here has been very friendly and helpful. We chose The Citadel because they had a special deal, so we got a locked-in rate. It's also very convenient for me. They've been pretty good with communication, and I get emails often. It's been hard not being able to go inside yet, but I would recommend it to others looking.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Community"
After we moved in, things started going downhill. I’m not sure if it’s because of new management or a change in ownership. The community is doing its best, though. They recently hired a new chef and more housekeeping staff. My loved ones faced a rent increase. The self library was nice, and meals were pleasant. However, mask mandates aren’t enforced in the hallways. The well-kept grounds and convenient amenities matter. Overall, it’s a mixed experience.

"Mixed Feelings about New Assisted Living Place"
I moved to this place when I had to relocate to another city. It just happened to be the first place I found. I'm still getting used to the new normal, but there's no denying I miss my old home. However, the food isn't too bad here and actually costs less! I can't live without my furry friend, and I'm glad they allow pets here. The folks here are super friendly, and the staff shows genuine care. The place might be a bit old and could use some renovations. They host fun activities like bingo and tunes that I might start participating in. They clean up every week which is appreciable. I love the peaceful courtyard. Had some minor problems, but their maintenance was quick to sort it out. Hoping to feel at home here soon.

"Mom Enjoys Community Despite Some Issues"
My mom enjoys living in this community and her apartment. She likes how you have to go outside to reach the dining area, and how the hallways lead to the outdoors. The shaded courtyards are a favorite of hers. However, most activities seem geared towards assisted living and rehab, with only a few card games available for independent living residents. One big issue was the delay in setting up Mom's TV and cable, which took six weeks to fix. I'm a bit disappointed with the front desk staffing; it seems like there's always a different person there. Mom doesn't usually complain unless there's a good reason, so I trust her opinion when she says she doesn't like the food. While I've found it to be good when I've eaten there, I've usually ordered from a different menu. On the positive side, the open dinner window is a nice touch, allowing residents to take their time.

They have been kind and understanding in every situation and are well-trained to care for seniors. I appreciate that they address any issues immediately. "Great experience!"
I took my grandfather to The Citadel last week, and our tour guide was very friendly and informative! My grandpa felt comfortable talking to her about his issues, which surprised me. The place seemed active, clean, and the staff was nice. I talked to a few residents, and they told me they loved living there and that my grandpa should move in before I even asked! The independent apartments were spacious and affordable. I got all my questions answered, and the tall blonde marketing lady even helped me with VA info, movers, and a realtor. She almost convinced me to move in! I hope my grandpa's house sells fast, so we can move him in right away! Thank you again for being so kind to both of us!

"Falling Standards and Hidden Costs at Assisted Living Facility"
My parent lived at this facility for nearly four years. Initially, it was a wonderful place with plenty of good food options. They used to provide free breakfast and lunch. However, new rules were introduced and patrons now had to pay for breakfast. Next, they got rid of the lunch soup and salad bar as well. Now, there's an additional charge if you want to enjoy those. The range of food offered dropped drastically. Once upon a time, the menu was filled with different beef and chicken meals but it's now limited to chicken most of the time. That's an exaggeration, but the amount of beef meals served has certainly decreased significantly. The quality of the meals also seems to have degraded. On the bright side, the housekeeping staff is friendly and stable. Initially, the turnover rate was high and numerous people were fired. However, that appears to have settled down now. The main bottleneck is the dining area that seems to be constantly understaffed. Occasionally, you may even find the dishwasher serving meals. The evident priorities of the new management seem to be clear - making money regardless of the impact on service quality. And there's an impending construction project to improve the building's exterior and driveway. As usual, it's the residents who will bear the cost for this. It just doesn't seem fair to the poor residents living here!

My husband and I are doing well at Citadel Assisted Living. The place is currently undergoing renovations, so things are a bit chaotic with the mess, but overall, it looks nice. The best thing about this place is the people. They are simply amazing. The residents were welcoming from the moment we arrived. The company here is great; there's always someone to chat with or share a meal. It's nice after 60 years of marriage to have someone cook and clean for us. We're very happy here and would recommend it. I suggest exploring a few different communities before deciding, and let your loved one choose where they want to go since they'll be living there and know what they like.

"Avoid this Profit-Driven and Poorly Staffed Facility"
My mom's been living here for about a year and a half. Things started off well, but then new ownership took over and viewed it as a money-making enterprise instead of a home for the residents. They're not treated as humans but as cash-generating commodities. The meals are horrible.. The management wouldn't even allow their dogs to eat it. They've reduced the staff down to almost nothing. My mom often waits over an hour for assistance with washroom use. If the staff doesn't show up in time, she uses her diaper, which annoys them because they then have to change it. They even skimp on quality when it comes to tissues, buying the cheapest possible, which is as rough as sandpaper. I bet they wouldn't use such low-quality items for their families! I seriously urge anyone looking for a decent care facility for a loved one to explore any place but here. At a month, it's not worth it to stay in this greedy corporate-run establishment.

"Assisted Living Facility Plummets From Haven to Horror."
When my dad moved into this assisted living home three years ago, it was a haven. We were losing my mom to Alzheimer's and I needed to know he was safe and cared for. Dad was 89 at the time and tending to mom had worn him thin. He had always been a terrible cook and began dropping pounds. We toured the place together, seeing the apartments and even sampling the food. The meal was top-notch. Once we got the opportunity, dad moved in. He seemed happy and started gaining some weight back. That made me happy too. Then the place got sold and everything went downhill. The new management abruptly hiked the rent and meal prices, and the previously complimentary breakfast was now costing us. They even started charging for coffee! They dismissed the chef and took away the varied meal options. With the higher prices came terrible food, which is a cruel switch considering eating is a major source of pleasure for older people. The food has been consistently awful for the three years dad has lived there; it's so bad I wouldn't even consider feeding it to a pet. And the worst thing? If the residents order a meal and can't stomach it, they still have to pay. The awfulness doesn't stop at the food, either. The water smells strongly like sewer waste. This stench comes out of faucets, showers, everywhere. It's so overpowering it's made me sick. Despite numerous complaints, the residents are told there's nothing to be done. Letters to the Ensign Group, the listed owners, and to the facility's administration have gone unanswered. When residents bring up their grievances, they are spoken to as if they were children. The management has taken advantage of the fact that these seniors don't want the trouble of finding a new place. They don't even bother to fix simple security issues like poor exterior lighting. This place is a disgrace. The only way these criminals will learn is if residents move out or if folks stay away entirely.

"Avoid This Place: Money Over People and Horrible Meals!"
These facility owners clearly care more about cash than people. They baby the residents, treating them like kids, not adults! The food? Absolutely disgusting - and they don't listen to any complaints! I had dinner there with my dad last night. The soup came out lukewarm and went cold in no time. The fish wasn't even as warm as the soup and tasted like it'd been boiled. The tap water reeks of raw sewage! My dad's 92, and they know he can't leave. They don't truly care about the folks living here, even if they claim otherwise! It breaks my heart. Over two years, my dad's gone from 125 lbs to 92 lbs.

"Stay Away: Unpleasant Experience with Overbearing Personnel"
I wouldn't suggest this place to anyone. We encountered an overbearing individual there who has picked on us ever since we arrived. They pressured us into hiring Angel Care, who couldn't even assist us, but nonetheless billed us. We even have to pass a review before we can return our keys. It feels as though they have been trying to push us out since the moment we arrived, and now we are finally leaving. They keep tacking on extras without our consent. We have never received an accurate bill. They insist on doing unnecessary things, sticking us with the cost, like having someone accompany us to meals. All in all, this wasn't a good experience.

"Mom is well cared for and enjoys her new home."
Even though Mom got home care at Citadel Independent Living, she needed Assisted Living after 6 weeks. Both places had friendly and respectful staff who liked working with the residents. They quickly learned what Mom needs and likes. Mom can ask for help at the Wellness Center, and if they don’t know the answer, they help her find it. Since Mom is very hard of hearing, some activities might not work for her, but I'm hoping they will find alternatives. Her apartment is bright with high ceilings, and the grounds are well-kept, so Mom can enjoy outdoor time. Sometimes the office and staff need to communicate better, but any issues are resolved quickly. The dining room meets her needs well, with nicely prepared food, though sometimes it’s too salty. There’s good variety and fresh vegetables. Mom gets excellent care and feels safe and cared for.

"Improving Every Day!"
I've been here for almost three months, and the place is doing quite well. They treat me nicely. I'm the type of person who does as much as I can, but physically, I can't do what I did when I was 35. If I need something, I call them, and it gets taken care of. The manager in this area said they would help me hang some of my heavier pictures, and the guys came in to do it. They’re good here, and the price is reasonable from what I’ve seen. It pretty much fits what I need. The food is good. It’s not exactly fancy like in Paris or New York City, but it's always there. I don’t always eat lunch because after a good breakfast, I’m not too hungry, but dinner is good. I think this place will get better the longer I’m here. This morning, I took a scheduled trip into town to Walmart. They take you there, tell you what time they’ll leave, and then bring people back in two shifts. The drivers know most of the people on these trips, so no one gets left behind. There are some minor issues, but nothing big. Management seems to take care of things. They had some problems in the dining room with the food being slow and some items not in stock, but then the director of food services resigned, and they took care of it. They have alert buttons in the bathroom and above the bed, and they ask you to press it when you wake up so they know you’re up and about. I accidentally pressed the one in the bathroom, and within five minutes, a man on the night shift came to check on me. It’s good to know that it's there.

But it doesn’t really affect the community since it’s separated. One thing that could be better is the welcoming process; it could be more organized and formal. They could set up appointments to meet the ambassador and other staff. They do offer this, but you have to ask for it. Overall, we chose this community because it was the right fit for us.

"Convenient living with great amenities and friendly staff!"
This place is really great because you can pay month-to-month, which is super convenient. They serve three meals every day, so you don't have to worry about cooking. The staff is really nice and always ready to help out. Plus, they have some really nice courtyards where you can relax outside.

"Great place with friendly staff and spacious rooms!"
This place is really nice and super friendly. The rooms are bigger for the same price as the first one I checked out. I had a really good lunch there, too. I think I’ll have to go back again to choose between this place and Fellowship.

"Decent Assisted Living with Informative Director, Average Apartments"
The assisted living place was decent. The head person shared a lot of information and was welcoming. Other people living there were kind of friendly too. The apartments were okay, but I've seen others designed in a better way.
