Aerie Meadows Care Home

"Troubling decline in care quality at Aerie Meadows"
In short: - Insanely expensive - Deceptive - Neglectful The longer version: My grandma moved into Aerie Meadows while she was still able to walk, mostly able to control her bladder and bowel movements, and overall healthy, aside from her dementia. During her three-month stay at Aerie Meadows, my grandmother: -Picked up pneumonia -Got urinary tract infections that damaged her kidneys -Lost her ability to move around -Lost control of her bladder and bowel movements -Got blood clots in her legs, which were ignored and spread to her lungs -Had to start using oxygen -Was rushed to the hospital TWICE I understand that pneumonia and urinary tract infections can be difficult to avoid in nursing homes. However, the rest of these issues were directly due to Aerie Meadows' neglect. Instead of letting my grandmother walk (with a walker) and use the bathroom when she needed to, they strapped her into a wheelchair and made her wear diapers (which, unsurprisingly, led to the urinary tract infections). So, before long, my grandma couldn't move nor control her bladder or bowels. Over time, her lack of mobility resulted in blood clots in her legs, which eventually extended to her lungs. What’s worse, when my granny became immobile and incontinent BECAUSE OF AERIE MEADOWS NEGLECT, [name removed], the one in charge, had the audacity to try and make us pay an extra $800 per month for more care. The part that's most ridiculous and infuriating: After her second hospital stay caused by Aerie Meadows, grandma had to go to rehab to get some of her mobility back. On a Friday, the rehab center told us that my grandma was doing better and could be discharged on the next Tuesday. That same day, They told us they wouldn't allow my grandma to return to the nursing home because she was too hard to care for. Remember, they were the reason for Grandma's swift decline, and it was with hospitalization and rehab that she managed to recover a bit. This meant my parents had to gather all of my grandma's things from Aerie Meadows and find a new nursing home for her over one weekend. It's also worth noting, that technically this counts as breaking the contract. Other things to note: -They say they offer daily activities and exercise for residents. This isn't true. They basically just park the residents in front of a TV all day. -Their prices are higher than most in the area, but they offer way fewer perks and obviously way worse care. -They're not like most nursing homes with 24/7 visiting hours. Their visiting hours are limited. -[name removed] is very good at making excuses, ignoring good advice, and figuring out ways to charge more.
