"Tiny Rooms, Crowded Feel"
Our family took a virtual tour, and we're not sure if it was the camera or the place itself, but the rooms looked really small, almost like hobbit houses. They had some furniture, but everything seemed crammed together.

"A Wonderful Assisted Living Community"
My mom lives in this community, and it's pleasant. The staff is wonderful and very helpful. She enjoys her cute studio apartment, and housekeeping does daily tidy-ups, weekly cleaning, and her laundry. The menu-based food options are great. The front outside area is nice, although it's where everyone smokes. I recommend this place.

"Honest, Upfront Talk by Brookdale Bakersfield"
Finding an assisted living facility for my dad was tough, even with help from A Place For Mom. Getting a straight answer on costs was hard because it felt like comparing apples to oranges. Many places felt like dealing with a used car salesperson, with different ways of charging and only giving base prices without details on services. But [Removed] was honest and upfront about costs, making it easier to understand. She even explained Brookdale’s pricing compared to others without naming names. This made it easier to compare and understand the costs. [Removed] clearly explained our upfront and monthly costs. Other important things like cleanliness, friendly staff, types of care, and activities were easier to compare too. Dad has been at Brookdale Bakersfield for 2 months now, and he likes it. My brother and I feel like we made the right choice.

"Respite Care Available with Reasonable Costs"
This place offers short-term care for people needing a break. You just need your doctor's okay before they set up the dates. And the price isn't too high.

I toured this place for myself, and it was really nice. I didn’t move in because the cost got too high after adding all the extra charges.

"Great place for mom"
My wife and I picked this place for my mom because it’s clean and the staff is nice. They have fun activities and even a shuttle so residents can go out. I haven’t tasted the food myself, but it looks good when I visit.

"Avoid This Assisted Living! It's Terrible!"
Steer clear of putting your loved one in this assisted living home! This place, where my parent is unfortunately residing, is unbearable. The apartment was infested with cockroaches and they did nothing to resolve the problem. They have the nerve to bill us for services they never even provided. Their laundry facilities are always broken, and instead of being upfront about it, they leave them unmarked to trick potential residents. Food is constantly running out, leaving residents no choice but to settle for sandwiches instead of a proper meal. They advertise transportation to doctor's appointments as a selling point, but scheduling it in conjunction with their rigid timetable is such a challenge. Even worse? They still bill you for it. If you truly care for your parent, steer clear of this disaster of a place!

"Solid care at Brookdale Bakersfield, could improve"
My mom used to live at Brookdale Bakersfield and they took care of her well. I only got to visit her one time. I didn't like that the doctor only looked in on her weekly. The staff was always ready to help, but it felt like they needed more hands. While they took care of her, they could be better.

"Pleasant surprise at Brookdale! Great care, pricey though."
My grandma's been at Brookdale for a while now, and it's been way better than I expected. She loves going to church with her new friends and even plays volleyball and other stuff. Only thing that worries me is how expensive it is, but I know they're taking good care of her. The staff is super nice, and the place is always clean. I'd tell others to check it out!

"Caring Staff and Engaging Activities Make this Place Stand Out"
I worked as a companion care worker at this assisted living facility for two years. The staff was really nice and helpful during my time there. They're pros and genuinely care about the residents. I'd feel comfortable putting a family member there. The administration works closely with the staff to make sure your loved ones get top-notch care. They organize outings and special events that you can enjoy too. Plus, there are activities every day. Check it out; you'll be impressed!

"Excellent food, needs better cleaning"
The food was excellent, and the service was good too. They need to clean the sheets more often because they smell bad. They only vacuum once a week, but it should be at least twice. Everything else was good, and the aides were nice.

"Super Friendly and Communicative Staff"
If I could rate Brookdale Bakersfield a 6 for friendliness, I would. They keep her really busy. The nurses and how she gets her meds are excellent. I'd give the nurses a pat on the back for their care. They talk to us a lot, which helps a lot. Overall, it's been a great experience here.

"Brookdale Bakersfield Assisted Living: Excellent Care for Mom"
This place is great! The people who work here are really nice and helpful. There's a nurse who takes good care of my mom. They make sure she gets her medicine and they're always there when she needs them. Mom had to go to the emergency room once, and the staff checked on her a lot. I'm really pleased with this place.

"A Wonderful Place for Mom"
My mom wasn't happy when we suggested assisted living after Dad passed. She needs constant care due to memory problems. Only one of my sisters could stay with her most of the time, and she was getting really tired. But after visiting Brookdale Bakersfield a few times with Mom, she started liking the idea. Everyone there, from the boss to the workers, was super nice and made Mom feel welcome. The place is beautiful and has lots to do every day, plus they allow pets, which Mom loved. She got excited about moving there. It's been a week, and Mom's happy overall. Only problem: they forgot to take her to dinner a couple of times. Mom can't remember to go herself. We're talking to the staff about it and hope it gets fixed soon. Apart from that, we're thrilled Mom can live peacefully in a clean, caring, safe place. Thanks to "A Place For Mom" for helping us find 'a place for mom'.

"Best Choice for Dad's Happiness and Care"
Dad is really happy at Brookdale Bakerfield, and so are we. It was the best choice out of all the places we checked out. Dad is even joining in on activities there. Whenever I talk to Pam, the director, she is super helpful. We are just really happy with this place. It has been a great experience.

"Feels like home!"
We visited several senior assisted living places in Bakersfield, and we chose Brookdale (formerly Emeritus). It has a warm, friendly, quiet, and relaxing atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The dining room feels like a beautiful restaurant with delicious food. The rooms and decor are fine. The activities room and movie room are nice. The upstairs loft overlooks the dining room and is set up as a game/reading area. There is also a separate library. We also noticed that the residents were HAPPY! They had smiles on their faces and a good sense of humor. Brookdale was the best fit for our dad and even the best priced! He's been there for two weeks now and says he is SO happy and has made so many friends! This is wonderful news for us because he has never lived in an apartment before, and we weren't sure how he'd adjust. But the delicious food, good-hearted staff, and friendly neighbors have made it easy for him.

"Smooth move-in process needed, otherwise satisfied with Brookdale Bakersfield."
One thing they could do better is talk more with families when we're moving in. It was easy to reach them before we joined, but not as much after we moved in. Besides that, everything was pretty good, and we're mostly happy with Brookdale Bakersfield.

"Pretty Good Place with Great Staff"
Overall, Brookdale Bakersfield is pretty good. My mom complains a little about the food. There’s been some staff turnover with a new director, so I hope they improve the food quality. We’re also working out a few kinks with the billing. Other than that, everything is great. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, and my mom has really connected with the other residents.

The community is well-maintained with friendly staff and nice common areas. The facility is beautiful, clean, and bright. Both the staff and residents are friendly. Mom misses her independence moving from home to a room, but she enjoys some activities and the staff care about her. I would definitely recommend Brookdale Bakersfield.

"Mixed Experience with Prompt Service"
My dad stayed at this assisted living facility for two weeks (respite). He felt it was a mixed experience. His main issue was the long wait time when he needed assistance sometimes up to 2 hours. Not ideal during an emergency. However, the place is clean, modern, and the staff is polite. Once a caregiver arrived, the service was excellent.

"Neglectful and Unresponsive: Emeritus Assisted Living Disappoints"
The 'memory care' area at Emeritus is tragically lacking in adequate staff and poses a serious risk for those living there. In addition, dealing with the director, feels like talking to a wall as she affirmatively avoids returning your calls when you seek information about your relatives. Smaller housing options, known as 'board and care' facilities, operate with a more manageable caregiver to patient ratio and demonstrate sincere regard for their residents. I regret not knowing about their existence sooner. Emeritus staff go no further than the lowest legally-imposed requirements, showing disinterest in your loved one's wellbeing. They are alarmingly indifferent to key matters like timely medication administration, taking steps to minimize fall risk for their residents, and ensuring provision of a healthy meal plan. I strongly urge you to consider investing your resources and entrusting your loved ones to a different establishment.

"Friendly Staff, Communication Needs Improvement"
The people who work at Emeritus in Bakersfield are really nice! When I'm here visiting, they're always ready to answer my questions and give me info. But when I'm home, it's a bit tough to get updates. Sometimes they say they'll call me back, but they don't.

"Disappointed in Emeritus' lack of promised care"
For a whole year, our mom, has been living at the Emeritus in Bakersfield. Our mom has Macular Degeneration. When we first talked to the people in charge, we got a promise that she'd get individual help for daily chores and crafts. This promise wasn't kept. Instead, Mom spent her time alone, confused, and sad in her room. The only thing staff did was make sure she ate her meals and took her medication. We tried getting her into activities, but found that about half of these were cancelled by the so-called "Life Enrichment Director." We even asked (via the medical team) if a caregiver could spend an hour each day with Mom, walking, chatting and reading with her. We're totally ready to pay for this extra care. I was told this would be done, but I found out that wasn't true. After another month, we stopped asking. When I asked for a bill, they told me there was no charge, showing us they never even tried. There are a lot of lonely people at Emeritus. I get that in big business, if it looks good on paper, it's all good. But when it comes to people, actions speak louder than words. I'm not seeing any real help for the people living at Emeritus.

"Broken Promises and Shortcomings of Emeritus Assisted Living"
My mom was sent to Emeritus after they told us that she could participate in activities despite her bad vision...but that hasn't happened. We asked for help with her diet...to keep it low in salt due to swelling; but they denied our request. We were shocked that an Assisted Living Home couldn't cater for special dietary lifestyles...even if they were critical for the health and wellbeing of its resident. We asked if somebody could accompany our mom for a daily 30-minute walk around the site. We were given assurances...but they never came to pass. My mom possesses a Life Alert-like button around her neck that she can press if she needs help. There was this night that she locked herself out, we both desperately pressed the button trying to ask for assistance but nothing happened. Eventually, we found her key, got in and I called the front desk to inquire if we had mistakenly used the button or if the battery was dead. I asked that someone check it. No one did. She had no way to ask for help without her landline phone. On a three-day visit to my niece, my niece had to bath her and shockingly, my mom hadn't been cleaning her backside. It required soaking and deep cleaning to fix the issue. We wished for someone to occasionally check up on her considering her health problems and bad vision. My sister started to call daily to have someone remind my mom of the daily activities. The front desk claimed to have relayed this to her, but most times, the activities were indeed cancelled. This left my mom often disheartened as she doesn't socialize much and these activities were her major means of getting involved but about half the time, the activity was cancelled. My brother called the HQ to discuss this problem and was told no activities had been cancelled....but they didn't tell the truth. Few of the commitments made when we visited Emeritus, to see if it was suitable for our mom, have been met. I would like you to ask my sisters and brother for their reviews as well. Each of us is dissatisfied and disappointed with Emeritus and we each have our individual experiences. As a result, we are checking our mother out of Emeritus come August 15th. Please feel free to call me if you have any questions. Thank you for giving us the chance to share our experiences with Emeritus. A few weeks back, I also called A Place For Mom to express my concerns...

""Inadequate Staffing and Concerns on Safety and Cleanliness""
I didn't really like the fact that one caregiver was responsible for seven people. That seemed too high to me. Also, the lady kept discussing how often folks were falling, making it sound like people were just wandering and falling left and right. My husband noticed it wasn't as tidy as it should be. He wasn't impressed by the outside area either.

"Great Place for Mom!"
I visited this place and now my mom lives there. Every time I go, it's been awesome. They do a great job. The food is good, the facility is nice, and my mom's room is great. It's in a nice location. Everyone there always has a smile. They take care of my mom whenever she needs it. We checked out a few places, and this one was the most expensive. It's on the high end for us, but it's really worth it.

"Attentive staff, lacking full-time RNs, uncertain about activities."
My mom sometimes feels there aren't enough activities, but the staff says they're there. I've noticed activity notifications, but only a few people attend. They do try to get her involved and are good about helping her with meals and checking on her often. The staff is friendly, and there's always someone around. Most of her care seems good, but I wish there were more RNs around the clock. We were misled about 24-hour nursing, they have RNs on call at night and LVNs during the day. We're searching for a place with full-time RNs.

"Every staff member was friendly and positive!"
Every staff member was really friendly and positive. They focused on keeping the seniors safe (lifeline), comfortable (assigned caregiver), and healthy (meals, snacks, and activities). I liked that Mom wouldn’t have to move even if she needed more care. The owners can even bring in Hospice if needed. The rooms were bright and spacious, and the residents looked comfortable in their surroundings. They were preparing for family night, where families could join the residents for dinner.

The assisted living facility is quite spacious and pleasant. The staff and residents are all very friendly, which makes it feel welcoming. "Good Care and Food, But Far and Small Closets"
Good stuff: It was bright and welcoming; the staff was nice and acted professional; my mom enjoyed the meals; it was simple for my mom to move up as she needed more care - she didn't have to switch apartments. Not so good stuff: It wasn't near, but it was closer than Glenwood; the inner courtyard was a bit dull but my mom enjoyed it; the closets in the studio were kind of small.
