"Substandard Care at Brookdale Brookhurst, Prompts Family's Upset"
My Mom lived at Brookdale for a short time until we moved her out. During that time, she gained a shocking 40 pounds despite having a doctor's note indicating she was pre-diabetic and started off at 240 pounds when she first moved in. They just serving her too much food and let her eat whatever she wanted. Now that she's moved out, there's been a noticeable improvement. Her legs are no longer swollen, she's gradually losing weight instead of gaining, and she no longer suffers from problems with bowel incontinence because she's on a controlled, healthy diet. All in all, we were incredibly disappointed with Brookdale Brookhurst.

"Friendly Staff and Activities"
For the most part, it’s been a really good experience. The food isn’t always her favorite, and there are occasional water bugs in the bathroom drain. But the staff is nice and helpful, and they offer plenty of activities. I appreciate the resident group that discusses improvements with management. I just wish she enjoyed the food more.

"Mixed Experience at Brookdale Brookhurst Assisted Living"
I think COVID is affecting our time here. Without it, things might've been better. The staff sometimes isn't as quick to respond, probably because they don't have enough people. But everyone here is nice and polite. We'd still suggest Brookdale Brookhurst to others.

"High Prices, Poor Care: Unfit Assisted Living Facility"
I strongly discourage considering this place; they don't truly show concern for your family members. Instead of meeting their needs, they'd rather administer medication. Plus, the cost is extremely high. The rooms aren't even cleaned properly and they seem to add charges for everything, even tasks not done. Please, if you care about your loved ones, this shouldn't be their home. I had to remove my father-in-law after just five weeks.

I had a really good time checking out this place. The people there were punctual and they took their time to explain everything to me. I thought the layout was nice, and they had lots of cool stuff for the folks living there. It's a really good spot overall, but it's just not where I want to be.

"Community with Noisy Location but Nice Interior and Friendly Staff"
This place was cool, but it's on a busy street, so it's kinda loud with all the cars. They had this cool courtyard out back with a big fountain and spots to sit. Inside, it looked really nice, all cozy and welcoming. The people working there were super nice and helpful.

"Good Showers, but Residents Seem Uninterested"
Out of the four places I visited, I'd place this one third because it seemed like the people living there weren't very interested or active. But, I do need to give them credit for their top-notch showers, which are the best because they don't have a step.

"Just an all-around good fit for us."
We picked Brookdale Brookhurst for a few reasons. The staff is friendly and easy to talk to. The place isn't too big, which is nice. It fit our budget, and there was no pressure to sign up or buy extra things. It just felt right for our mom, so we moved her there a month ago, and she's really happy. We think she'll be able to stay there as she gets older, and Brookdale Brookhurst can take care of all her needs.

"Great place with friendly staff and happy residents"
My loved one is adjusting to her new home very well. It's much better than we expected, which is reassuring. We visited many places, but this one had a great atmosphere that really stood out. We had a few worries, but the staff quickly helped us with them. The food is good, but a bit pricey for guests. There are many activities, and my loved one has been busy making friends. They enjoy spending time together in each other's rooms. I recommend this place to anyone.

"Very Pleased!"
My husband and I recently moved his 84-year-old sister into Brookdale. So far, we're really happy with the care she's receiving. The staff knows her by name and greets her warmly in the hallways and dining area. Her apartment is spacious and filled with natural light. The dining room offers a wide variety of tasty food. When I asked my sister-in-law if she felt well taken care of, she said, 'Oh yes! Everyone has been wonderful.' The environment feels very safe. We're grateful we found Brookdale!

"Nice place, friendly staff, good food, clean and spacious."
My 89-year-old mom moved here at the end of [month], and so far, so good. She shares an apartment with a nice roommate. The apartment is clean and spacious. Brookdale is very nice, and the staff is friendly and efficient. There's a dining room where they order from a menu, like a restaurant, and the food is good. Mom says she’s getting fat, haha. They also have a nice courtyard with a koi pond and daily activities for residents, although Mom doesn’t join in. I’d recommend Brookdale to anyone looking for a good place for loved ones needing minimal care.

As a family, we realized my mother’s old place wasn’t right. We chose Brookdale Brookhurst, and I’m really glad we did. Since moving in, she’s been more active with all the daily activities. "Great Assisted Living Facility with Some Morning Staffing Challenges"
My mom found a perfect spot here! The cost fits her budget because it's in a safe area and easy to get to. She even got the first-floor apartment she always wanted. We've only had one issue: sometimes in the morning, there aren't enough staff to help everyone. We've talked about it with the facility a few times, but they listen and try to fix it. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and everyone is polite. We're really lucky we found this place!

"Great place but a bit pricey"
Since moving Grandma to Brookdale, it's been great. She loves it and is always busy with activities. Visiting feels like entering a hotel, not a medical facility. The place is very clean, though it is a bit pricey. My advice: if your loved one takes only a few meds, manage them yourself. Paying $500 for a reminder for one pill is a bit much.

"Not Too Impressed with Emeritus at Brookhurst"
My time at Emeritus at Brookhurst hasn't been the best. Most of the helpers don't seem to have a lot of skills or training, especially when it comes to helping residents who can't walk or need lots of individual care. The food is okay, but the servers aren't very good when it's mealtime. It's one of the less expensive places you'll find, and there's a reason for that. We're likely to move out soon.

"Clean, helpful staff, great value, and good pet policy."
It’s pretty darn clean. The staff is very helpful and never gives us any problems. It’s the best value around. They respond almost immediately if we need something. There are a lot of activities happening, and the food is really good. We like that they allow pets. One thing we would suggest is having professional trainers come in occasionally to help the staff with handling the dogs. Right now, whoever is off duty walks the dogs, but they don’t always know the best way to handle the leash.

"Mixed Experiences with Assisted Living Facility"
My mom stays at this place, and my dad goes see her every day. He takes her out to eat, they go for a stroll, and he brings her fresh veggie juice. They used to walk two times a day when she was living at home. We were told when we looked at this place that there was a walking club where residents could walk two times a day. They also told us to speak with their dietitian to make sure they knew about my mom's special diet and medication needs. We did that, giving them a list of the vitamins and meds (just two) my mom takes, and the best times for her to take them. Sadly, my mom hasn't been going on those daily walks, and it's not good for her memory - walking helps her remember things better. She also hasn't been getting all her vitamins, and they're not giving them to her at the right times. They even gave her the supplement that helps her sleep first thing in the morning, and they gave her her sleeping pill at dinner, which is too early. Plus, she's been eating foods that make her Alzheimer's worse - things like wheat, corn, soy, dairy, sugar, and fruit juice. We told them not to give her juice, but they did it anyway. On the bright side, my dad can rest easy at night knowing my mom isn't out wandering on her own.

"Mixed Feelings: Clean, Affordable Assisted Living with Some Shortcomings"
My mom stays there. Her room's mostly clean except for lacking vacuuming. Staff's nice. Assisted living's expensive, Emeritus seems cheapest. Mom's in a "friendship suite," like a 2-bed apartment. 2 master suites, a living room, a kitchenette, small balcony. Around 800-900 sq ft. Charges for room and extra for care. 5 levels, they changed her level without telling us, now at level 3, still pricey. Care seems okay, but disappointed that staff didn't know she could stand after two months. Not enough staff around. But pleased with cleanliness, friendliness, and space. Activities available.

"Great food, nice activities."
My mom had never been in a facility before. Compared to others, the services seem pretty standard. Spending a lot of money is never fun. It really depends on the person. Before moving her to Emeritus, she was just sitting around at home, not motivated. Now, she still isn't very motivated, but she has meals and plays a lot of cards. They even had a casino night, which was nice. There are many activities for her, and we try to encourage her to participate. We were really impressed with the food quality.
