"Friendly Staff, But Faster Response Needed"
We really like the staff at the Torrey Pines Senior Living community. However, they need to respond faster when our parents press their buttons. That's something they could improve.

"Convenient and Supportive Assisted Living for Ambulatory Seniors"
This assisted living facility offers great services for seniors who can walk on their own. We chose this place because it's close to home, and they have caregivers and nurses available around the clock. They also provide some extra benefits that you might not find everywhere else. Overall, it's a very good option for safe living assistance.

"Denied entry to BBQ due to no vaccination card."
My first visit to the assisted living facility was great. I was then invited to a BBQ but, when I got there, they wouldn't let me in. They wanted to see my vaccination card and since I didn't have it, they wouldn't budge at all. They didn't warn me that I'd need to bring it, and that really bothered me.

"Assisted Living Facility Review"
The people who worked there were friendly, but the building seemed old. The rooms were tiny; you could only fit one bed. It cost more than other places we checked.

"Subpar Care, Understaffing Highlighted at Assisted Living Facility"
I haven't visited this assisted living place since it changed its name. But before that, they never had enough staff and the people in charge were not honest. There were some fantastic caregivers but there were too many residents for them to take care of properly. The higher-ups were often unfriendly. It seemed like they just cared about making money and didn't really care about looking after the residents.

""A Big No: Bad Food, Missing Meds, Lost Personal Items""
The place asks you questions before they tell you the price. The food really wasn't tasty and they messed up giving out medicines. Because of these problems, he had to be rushed to the hospital 3 times. I wouldn't tell others to go here. They even lost some of his things, including his glasses.

"Understaffed and Overpriced: Disappointing Hospice Experience"
In this place, my mom would've had to pay double for a private room during her last few weeks in hospice care. The people were really nice and worked super hard, especially during the nighttime — but there just weren't enough of them. I had to spend a lot of time there because it would've taken them forever to get to her otherwise. The place itself was kind of sad and old, but at least it was clean.

"No Day or Respite Care for Mild Dementia Seniors"
I specifically asked for facilities that offer day care and maybe even respite care. None was available for seniors with mild dementia.

"Great Place for Dad"
Dad has been here for a little more than a month and he seems to be getting used to it pretty well. The people who work here are really nice and always ready to lend a hand when we need it. The place is kept really clean, which is nice to see. And the food? It's pretty good, no complaints from us. We think this is a good place for Dad and we'd tell others to check it out too.

"Adequate Maintenance, Inadequate Care at Brookdale Facility"
Ever since Brookdale took over from Emeritus, they've done a good job of keeping the place in good shape. But, they've also let go of a lot of staff, the food has gotten worse, and they're not doing a great job of addressing complaints from the people who live here. There isn't a single registered nurse working in the assisted living area, and the staff, even though they're nice, seem to be overworked and a little under-qualified. The person in charge seems like he's in way too deep, and could stand to be replaced. The higher-ups don't seem to care, and the regional manager never answers her phone or calls back. So yeah, the place looks good, but they really need to step up their game when it comes to taking care of the folks who live here.

"Enjoyed My Visit!"
I visited this place and met friendly staff. The place looked neat. I liked it because it's near the bus and they have stuff to do. But I chose another place because it's closer to where I need to be.

"A Tour for Care"
This is a nice community. We wanted an independent community for her because she likes to be active. It didn't seem to appeal to us, but the meals looked good. The community was clean and well taken care of. They had activities available. I suggest families tour this community to see if it's the right care for their loved one.

"From Independent to Neglected: Failed Elderly Care Promises"
My mom stayed here for two years, and she was completely independent when she moved in. However, after she broke her leg last year, I realized she needed more support. I noticed then that it took staff about 30-45 minutes to answer her call button. Her time in the SNF side of Brookdale was not much better, with call times averaging 15-30 minutes. The staff is nice but they seem overworked. We also had a lot of problems with billing. The final blow came when they kicked her out on the day she was discharged from SNF to receive hospice care. This meant we had to move my 95-year-old mom on the same day she was supposed to move back into her familiar apartment to live out her final days, which was very stressful for both of us. She passed away less than three weeks later. When we lodged a complaint, Community Care Licensing said it was "just a big misunderstanding" and didn't really do anything. BBB even filed a complaint under another company name. It doesn't seem like anyone cares about elderly folks. Look out for Big Corporation Eldercare. I feel like all they want is your money, and they will tell you anything to get your elderly loved ones to move in.

"The staff at Brookdale went above and beyond!"
They don't have TVs or phones in the rooms. The staff was awesome—she got my loved one a free TV, table, chair, and electric bed. The food looked good, but my loved one didn't like it. They had lots of fun activities and kept their promises. My only issue is the billing process. Before moving in, I recommend checking the daily costs.

"Need clearer, itemized billing"
I am really happy with them. However, I wish the bill was clearer. The billing is confusing because they give you a lump sum, which makes it hard to understand. They should itemize the bill so you can see what you're paying for.

"Great Place for Loved Ones"
Our time at Emeritus at Carmel Valley has been awesome. The staff is super friendly and professional, and they helped me set everything up for my loved one. The sales/marketing person was a huge help. The place is clean and well-kept, and they take great care of the residents. I highly recommend it based on my experience so far.

"Caring Staff, Excellent Communication, and Lots of Activities"
The assisted living facility is conveniently close to my house. It's easy to find staff to talk to, and communication with them is really good. The place seems well-run, and the caring people who manage it make a positive difference. Although my loved one is a recluse and doesn't like activities, there's a lot going on—music, bible studies, and storytelling. We're quite happy with our experience so far.

"Beautiful Grounds and Friendly People"
The grounds are beautiful. The people are friendly, but we were in the nursing home part, so it felt a bit different from a regular assisted living community. The physical therapy services were amazing.

"A Little Understaffed"
We're not super happy with Emeritus at Carmel Valley. The dining room didn't have enough staff. It seems like too many people moved in, and they couldn't keep up. It's improved a bit lately, but once, when two dining room staff called in sick, my parents had to wait an hour and a half for their food. Another time, I was visiting, and it took a caretaker over 30 minutes to respond when called. She said she was washing clothes. I asked her, 'Isn't answering calls more important?' It feels like they're understaffed. Maybe it's a fixable issue. Despite this, my parents have a two-bedroom apartment, and it's stressful because my dad has Alzheimer's. Still, the staff there is very nice.

"Mediocre Report Dissuades Despite Initial Positive Impression"
We visited this place. It seemed nice at first glance, but it's quite far. The week my wife went there, a negative news report about it aired on TV. This place is part of a large company spread throughout the US, so some places might not be as good as others.

"Extremely Clean and Friendly"
I give them 5 stars for cleanliness and friendliness without a doubt! I'm always looking for free stuff because I'm cheap, so for the value, I'll say they did a great job and they're great, but I'm cheap. My aunt just moved in. She's somewhat paralyzed, so she can't enjoy the activities as much as I'd like. I chose this place because it offers all levels of care. The place is super clean and well-designed. The food is really good with lots of choices at each meal. The director was very nice. They do the medical evaluation quickly, but the physical evaluation needed a bit more. We want a wheelchair saddle so my aunt doesn't slip out of her chair and a floor mat in case she falls out of bed. She only arrived last Tuesday night, so honestly, they're doing very, very good.

"Visited and Liked it, director welcoming, residents happy"
Visited this place and the person in charge was really welcoming. We took a good look at single and double rooms, and at the place overall. It's a decent space, well-maintained and the people living there looked content.
