"Payment Issues Impact Overall Experience at Brookdale Central Whittier"
My mother-in-law is doing great at Brookdale Central Whittier. She's been there for about a month and really enjoys it. She loves playing penny bingo and is making new friends. The only reason I gave it 3 stars overall is because we had some problems with payment using Elder Care financing.

"Assisted Living Facility Unfairly Bills for Unutilized Services"
They assessed my mom and said she was too delicate to go there. I managed to find a board and care for my mom and informed them. Despite that, they've been relentlessly trying to bill my mom, claiming they reserved a room for her. When I stood my ground and refused to pay, they're now attempting to make us pay for the nurse who evaluated her.

"Nice Place, But Restroom Access Costly for Wheelchair Users"
The place is tidy and looks good. It’s just right for my brother who uses a wheelchair. He loves the pretty patio and spends time there. The garden is also really pretty. It’s great that the place isn’t too big, so it’s easy to move around. However, we’re facing a big problem. My brother’s wheelchair doesn’t fit in his bathroom. The bathrooms aren’t built for wheelchairs. So, he has to pay extra to get help using the bathroom since he can’t walk into it on his own. This is becoming a serious money problem for us.

"Small, friendly, pet-friendly facility close to home"
When I searched for a place for my mom, I wanted it close by, and this one is just 5 minutes away! It’s a small community, so it's easier for my mom to remember where things are. The staff is very friendly and knows my mom by name. The start was a bit tough for her, but the staff’s personal touch made a big difference. This place is pet-friendly and has no smell. I’d recommend this facility to other families.

"They’re Being Well Taken Care Of!"
Brookdale Central Whittier is a really nice place where my parents live. They’re doing great and like the care they get. I haven’t eaten there yet, but they say the food is good. My dad sometimes has trouble cutting his meat small enough, but overall, no other issues. The staff is friendly and welcoming when family visits. The atmosphere feels warm and cozy. Mom enjoys going to the casinos and doing exercises. They have a beautiful atrium for sitting outside. The landscaping is well-kept. I feel they’re safe and in good hands. I’d recommend this community to friends and family.

"Brightened Lives and Great Staff at Central Whittier"
I've had a good friend live here for about a year, and it has really changed her outlook on life. She came to this community feeling isolated and alone after a fall and the loss of her husband years ago. I never thought I’d see her so happy again. She loves the wonderful staff who always try to make her smile when I visit. She raves about the dining, and the director goes above and beyond to meet everyone’s tastes. The servers are always busy, making sure everyone is fed and happy. The care staff are always around, giving a friendly hello as they pass by. A few months ago, I even saw some of them joining activities with the residents. The head nurse is fantastic and listens carefully. The activities could be a bit more engaging, with more group activities, outdoor games, and seasonal contests. The new director has really improved the place, making it what I hoped it would be when I first visited. I know my friend will have fun and happy times here in her golden years. Thank you, Brookdale. When it’s my turn to find a place, I’d be happy to live at Central Whittier.

"Dad found his voice and is laughing again!"
When my dad lost Mom, he lost interest in life. He stopped doing his hobbies, wouldn’t leave the house, and lost his voice and sense of humor. It was really tough. I reached out to a Place for Mom because my siblings and I were worried about finding help. My advisor was fantastic. My kids' scout troops used to visit Brookdale during the holidays, singing carols and playing bingo with the seniors, and now Grandpa is one of them. From our first tour to signing the contract and meeting the chef, activity coordinators, and the caring staff, everyone has been amazing. They treat each resident like they are the only one at Brookdale. The wheelchair yoga and other activities are great. The restaurant ambiance is superb, and the food is perfect for elders. My main concern is that they need more staff. I’ve noticed the staff seem tired by the end of their shift, which I understand since I visit at different times. I suggest a 1-5 staff-to-resident ratio to make the care more personalized and give staff more breaks. They handle everything from laundry and bathing to helping with mobility, and they do their best. The Med Techs are great too. THANK YOU BROOKDALE for giving us peace of mind. My dad has found his voice again and is telling jokes, bringing lots of laughter back into our home!

"Missed Church Trips Mar Otherwise Enjoyable Stay"
My mom-in-law is beginning to get used to this place. However, there are some problems she's having. There aren't enough servers in the dining hall, so it takes a long time for her to get her food. Also, before she moved in, they told us she would be able to go to church on Saturdays, but that hasn't happened yet. She's not happy about that. The folks running the place say they're trying to fix the issue. That said, she likes the activities and the people there. She really enjoys her workout classes and her time spent praying the rosary.

"Unimpressed by Care, Questionable Dietary Consideration"
I'm not too thrilled with the care my husband's getting at this place. They're not cleaning him properly after he uses the bathroom. We've discussed it but not much has changed. Apparently, they only have three caregivers in the day and two at night. The assisted living care isn't meeting our hopes. The food's quite good, but I doubt they take into account his dietary requirements.

"Nice place, but needs more activities"
My dad isn’t too thrilled about leaving home. The staff tries to make him comfy, but there’s no memory care area. The place is always clean and smells like potpourri. They serve three meals a day, and if you miss one, they’ll give you sandwiches, juice, and coffee later. Unfortunately, there’s no gym, and my dad wishes he could exercise. Plus, he can’t walk around the grounds without supervision. Still, they’ve been really nice and try to boost his mood.

"Good value, pleasant place, parents like it"
We looked at a lot of places, and I think what my parents are getting for the cost here is good. The care services are okay. At first, there were some issues with my mom’s eye drops, but I think they’ve been resolved. My mom even participated in the Miss Emeritus pageant and came in second, which was nice. There were a few mix-ups with taking them to church, but that was due to bus issues, not their fault. My parents were unsure about moving, but they like it here. There’s a nice lake with a fountain and ducks, and a pleasant patio out back. It’s not crowded, easy to get to, parking is good, and these little things make a big difference to me.

We found exactly what we needed here. After checking out several places and feeling disappointed and worried, we toured Brookdale. The staff were fantastic, taking their time to show us around and introduce us to everyone. Unlike the other places, which felt very "institutional," Brookdale felt more like an apartment complex with a "homey" vibe. It's clear the staff really care and have the right compassion for this work. Most importantly, the residents seem happy.

"Warm and caring staff, rising prices raise concerns at Emeritus"
The workers at Emeritus at Whittier are super friendly and really caring. They're quick to handle things when needed. One thing that bugs me is that the cost is going up unexpectedly, which is tough since we're on a fixed income. I think it's because Emeritus is joining up with Brookdale. Great facility. The staff who showed us around was friendly and seemed to love her job. She knew many residents by name. The place was clean and well-kept, and the residents looked happy. The staff were engaging with everyone, and there were activities happening. I liked that each resident had a life alert necklace and in-room emergency buttons.
