"Great Experience at Cogir of Sonoma"
Since the day my mom moved into Cogir of Sonoma, we've felt so lucky she chose this place. The people, activities, meals, her apartment, and the environment all make her happy, helping her enjoy her final years.

"Disappointed by food quality at Cogir of Sonoma assisted living"
Most of the workers were good and caring. The apartment was clean. But I chose this place mainly because of the tasty food they showed us during our tour. However, after moving in, the food quality dropped significantly. The kitchen staff is not good at all. The food served is worse than what inmates get at the local prison. I talked to the boss about it, and he was polite, but it doesn't seem like they'll change things soon. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone because of the bad food. The meals are tiny, nothing like the big meal they showed us during the tour, which I think was just for show.

"Comfortable Living with Fun Activities!"
Brookdale Sonoma is a lovely place. My parents really enjoy living here. They picked this place because it gives them a quiet and comfy space to live on their own. They get light housekeeping in their two-bedroom apartment. The community is super clean, though it's a bit messy now because they're changing the carpets. They serve three great meals a day, and my parents like eating in the dining room for two of them. As they've gotten older, they don't eat as much. The staff is kind and always there if needed. There are lots of activities for the residents if they want to join. They even give out a daily activity sheet. I like it because of all the fun stuff they offer, like trips to casinos, art classes, jewelry repair classes, bridge, trivia, and movie nights.

"Kitchen Manager's Poor Leadership Diminishes otherwise Perfect Facility"
The Food Service Manager at Brookdale at Sonoma doesn't understand how to properly treat her employees. As someone who has worked for many years as a kitchen manager, I expect better. I initially considered this facility for my parents, but I observed her yelling at her staff as if they were less than human. She belittled them despite boasting about her qualifications and accused them of not knowing how to do their jobs. It's shocking! Any good manager knows they should guide and teach their staff, not demean them. I couldn't stand the thought of my parents or even my kids being treated like that. While Brookdale is in a beautiful area and the facility is top-notch, with employees who put in a lot of effort, I think the kitchen manager needs to learn some compassion and leadership skills. Personal interactions are something that can't just be learned in school, they require humanity!

"A Wonderful Place for Mom to Live and Enjoy"
My mom says she's happy here. She's beginning to join exercise classes and has already gone on one outing. She’s very particular about food, but she loves the meals at Brookdale. She’s eating much better now. The people here are really nice, and it’s a great place for her.

"Quick to place dementia patients in memory care"
I didn't go there myself. But I'm guessing, just like they will automatically move my mom to memory care because she has been diagnosed with dementia. They will do this without considering how advanced her disease is or how independent she still is.

"Great Condition, Fun Activities"
The place is in great condition. The heating system could be better. They have a flyer showing all the activities they offer every day. You can enjoy bingo and movies downstairs.

"Disappointing Design and Condition Raise Concerns"
The place looked rundown, like the lobby's stained sofas and carpets. This made me question the quality of care for the people living here. I also wasn't a fan of how the building was designed, it felt too lonely.

"Inadequate Management and Policies at Sonoma Retirement Home"
Having lived here since June 2013, my point of view may be a bit restricted. Nonetheless, I had previously resided at a retirement community in Petaluma, CA. When I moved in, it was a transition period - Manager Webster was leaving and she was on restricted duty due to other commitments, which made her less available to us residents. In my single encounter, we discussed the very limited rebates granted to residents absent for more than a week. We somewhat disputed the meal credit policies, $5.00 per day only kicks in after 14 days of absence. Considering the $11.00 charge for a guest meal, this amount feels quite meager. This sort of rebate should kick in after just a week of absence. There's absolutely no way for residents to dispose of non-biodegradable items like batteries and inkjet cartridges, a clear violation of a Sonoma County rule. Up to now, management has been silent on these matters. We had this meeting back in August. No Town Hall meeting was set for October. The supposed committee that hears out resident complaints has failed to provide any feedback during my time here. I am not even aware of who the members are. Based on my current experience, it feels like management doesn't really oversee things, there's barely any guidance for new residents, the waiting staff in the kitchen seems overwhelmed, there are no busboys, and no one is keeping an eye on the efficiency and training of the dining room employees.

My family member with dementia wasn't allowed here. I'm still waiting for them to give back our $2000 deposit.
