"Assisted Living Review"
The staff who take care of us, give us medicine, and clean our rooms are great! But the people in charge don't always respond to emails, calls, or texts. When there's a problem, they communicate well. Moving in was a bit of a mess—they didn't finish paperwork until two weeks after we arrived. The food is okay, but sometimes it's cold. The salads could be fresher, and meal times are too early. They do have an all-day menu with a few choices. It would be nice if they emailed our families about meetings and events. My brother and I visit twice a week, but we still miss some things. They should put up notices around the community, not just at the front desk. We looked at ten places before Mom picked this one—it's cheaper than others and has a couple of courtyards (though they need better upkeep). The apartments are small but clean and nice. The building could use some outside upgrades, and the windows need cleaning a few times a year. The big entrance outside has seating, which our Mom likes.

"Mixed Feelings at Serento Rosa"
Our family visited Serento Rosa in person, and it's a beautiful facility. However, it felt more like a nursing home, and no one seemed happy there. Despite considering it, we chose a different community for our loved one. The newer unit was set up like an individual apartment, but I decided my mother would stay in her room and not socialize.

"Good tour, but small memory care rooms."
Our family took an in-person tour and really liked the assisted living side. However, the rooms on the memory care side were smaller than we would want for our loved one if they need to move there.

"Assisted Living Staff and Memory Care Enhance Residents' Experience"
I think the staff here is really good. They seem happy to be working there, which is rare these days. The people who take care of the residents are consistent, and they really seem to care about them. My dad is in memory care, which is separate from the regular assisted living. I like that they have both, and they bring the memory care people over to join in the activities with everyone else.

"Assisted Living Review: Serento Rosa"
Serento Rosa was awesome. They did a really good job. They were very informative and very helpful. The room wasn't quite ready to our standard on move-in day, but they took care of our requests right away.

"Assisted Living Facility Needs More Natural Light and Better Layout"
The place is nice, but the rooms don't get much sunlight. Also, it's confusing for my mom to find her way around because of the odd angles in the building.

"Mom Prefers Placentia for Bright Rooms and Porch Sitting"
My mom prefers the Placentia place because of the rooms. All the resident rooms have a sliding glass door and a balcony. It's important for my mom's eyesight to have a room with lots of windows and natural lighting. She also loves to sit on the porch. Everything else was similar, but Placentia won out because of these features.

"Mother's Nightmarish Experience with Brookdale Nursing Staff"
My mom's time at Brookdale's skilled nursing section was horrifying. Their staff is not sufficient in number, and some act downright disrespectful and offhandish. They take forever to act on the needs of their patients, and this led to health issues for my mom, like constipation. I remember one instance where I urged my mom to ask for a nurse, and it took them over 40 minutes to arrive. This incompetence resulted in my mom developing severe panic attacks. One tragic incident was when my mom fell and hit her head. I have no idea how long she was left unattended, and neither do the Brookdale staff. They informed me that my mom had been moved to St. Jude Hospital, but when I called there, she wasn't. Brookdale then casually suggested she might have been taken to Placentia Linda. It was obvious they were clueless about her whereabouts. It took me a nerve-wracking one and a half hours to track her down. As it turned out, she had been taken to the Trauma Center due to bleeding, her age and her blood-thinning medication. Up to now, no one from Brookdale has bothered to check up on her well-being or apologize for their mishaps or inconsistencies in their information. They didn't even acknowledge my complaint letter. It's clear how much they truly value their patients. My mom is back home but she's still deeply affected by the appalling care she received at Brookdale. I could never, in good faith, suggest anyone take their loved ones there.

"Unhappy With Rudeness and Sluggishness at Assisted Living Home"
My mother-in-law's assisted living home is a real disappointment. They just don't have enough staff members working. The ones who are there are pretty rude and don't really care about their jobs. My mother-in-law fell off her bed one time, and it took over 20 minutes before the staff came to check up on her. That's really not okay! When we told the facility about what happened, all they did was say sorry. They didn't even try to explain why it happened. And this isn't even the first time they've been super slow to react to stuff. The kitchen on the second floor is always full of dirty dishes and leftover food. The dining room where they play bingo is so dark and gloomy. They really need to hire better staff and make the place more lively. I'm overall not pleased with it.

"Convenient rehab hospital within assisted living community; overall recommended."
The people who work here are super nice and always ready to help when we're there. The place is always clean and looks really professional. One thing I didn't like is that in the memory care area, they all have their own rooms but have to share showers. But they have a really nice outdoor area where residents can go whenever they want. The memory care part isn't in a separate building, it's behind a locked door in the main part of the building. Still, I'd say it's a good place to live. What's really cool is they have a hospital for rehab right here. So if anyone needs medical help beyond what they usually offer, it's right on site.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living; Rocky Start with Room for Improvement"
My father-in-law had a tough start at this place. He fell from his bed and broke his hip within a week. They were supposed to put an alarm on his bed, but it didn't happen right away. When residents need help to go to the restroom and push the alarm, it takes a long time for someone to come, sometimes up to 30 minutes. They say they don't have enough staff. However, the staff they do have are very friendly. The nurse always stops what she's doing to answer my questions and concerns. They have lots of activities for my mother-in-law, but not many for my father-in-law now that he's in a wheelchair. On the bright side, my in-laws can stay together in the same room. Financially, it works for us. The director was very helpful. Maintenance is excellent; they fixed the air conditioner right away when it broke.

"Unprofessional Staff And Negligent Care At This Facility"
This is absolutely the worst place to bring your parents! The nurses are straight up rude. Every single one of them lacks professionalism and sensitivity. I had my dad stay there after his hospital transfer. They just left him all alone without checking on him for the entire night. My dad was awfully dirty on the underside and his diapers were completely filled. He had rashes from irritating bowel movements and there was bleeding from his private area. The level of distress I felt is beyond description.

"Absolute Nightmare, Rethink Sending Parents Here!"
This is absolutely the worst place to send your mom or dad! Nurses are unbelievably rude. They lack professionalism and hardly show any concern for the patients. My dad was transferred here from a hospital and they did not even bother to check on him for the whole night, they just left him. He was unclean and his adult diaper was filled with feces, causing him to develop rashes from the irritation. He was even bleeding from his penis. I can not even begin to express how angry and upset this made me.

"Decent, but Room for Improvement"
Staffing is good, except on weekends. The food needs improvement—I’ve heard complaints from residents about tough meats and low-quality bread for sandwiches. Also, I’m not sure why some residents are left sitting in their wheelchairs near the nurses’ station for extended periods.

My mother wanted a place where she could keep her small cat. Brookdale Yorba Linda is great because it allows pets. They offer activities both on-site and off-site. "Mom is Happy!"
I highly recommend Brookdale's Memory Care facility. Our mom was previously in a nice Assisted Living place, but they couldn't handle her increased dementia. After visiting 8 facilities, we narrowed it down to two with similar philosophies. We chose Brookdale because it's close to family and has an open garden for residents. Most importantly, Mom is happy here—they've reduced her anxiety and she's active with other residents.

"Medication Mishaps at Assisted Living Facility"
Every day, I'd tell the facility's nurses about my family member's medicines, but it was always a mess. After complaining to everyone from the doctor to the various nurses, I saw no changes. I gave them the proper medications, but they took them away after three days. Omnicare sent an $800 bill for drugs. Those were supposed to come home with her but didn't. The Administrator, won't pick up my calls. I'm contacting the Elder Laws to sort out this situation. The facility might look appealing, but it functions terribly. If your relative lives here, be aware that you need to visit every day to ensure they're alright. An Advocate is needed for every patient; don't leave them on their own. The OT and PT departments seemed to actually care and were wonderful with the patient. Thankfully, we were able to bring her home after two weeks and hire personal caregivers.

"Good Experience Despite Some Hiccups"
My aunt moved to BYL after staying in the hospital. She first went to their skilled nursing area and then to the memory care unit. I thought it would be tough, but it was actually smoother than I thought it would be. The workers didn’t notice her memory problems at first because she seemed okay sometimes. But after three weeks in the nursing area, they figured it out. Now, she’s in the right place and as cheerful as she can be. I wasn’t too happy that they didn’t share enough health details when she moved from nursing to memory care. And getting her doctor’s notes was hard. But overall, they’re doing pretty well. I got Hospice to come in too, and they’re really great. I don’t live nearby, so talking with the staff isn’t perfect. Still, they care and work hard, which makes it a mostly good experience.

"Neglected Resident's Unhappy Experience at Brookdale"
When searching for a home for my dad who has dementia, this place initially seemed to have everything he required. It started out great but declined rapidly. The facility offers activities and music sessions, which my dad used to participate in. I began noticing that he wasn't a part of these anymore during my visits. I'd find him in his room, either staring out the window or struggling to put on his pants. He could walk when he arrived, but they soon had him in a wheelchair - probably to speed up the trip to the dining room. I asked for their help to ensure dad socializes, but wasn't listened to. My dad fell down a number of times, once even needing to visit the hospital for staples. Inhabitants only have a shower twice a week but are usually in diapers, which aren't changed frequently. Daily showers should be provided since they're in soiled diapers most of the time. There is a shortage of staff, especially RNs. Once, I discovered dad lying on the room floor unassisted after a fall. I've requested the staff to help him dress and participate in activities and to wash his laundry - often soaked from his diapers. Once, no one took him for lunch and he was ignored. I had to take him after lunch had started. Residents are expected to provide their own diapers, tissues, and personal products. Given the high fees, these products should've been supplied. I've recently relocated dad to a better place that treats him well at half the cost of Brookdale.

"Avoid This Place: Neglect and Lack of Knowledge Runs Rampant"
As soon as we got there, my dad had nothing but problems. They didn't give him his medicine, or bathe him. Instead, they just dumped diapers on him. Mind you, he's never worn them before. The staff seemed lazy and uncaring, with no clue about their job. They brushed off our concerns as if they didn't matter. We ended up having to bring in outside help. I wouldn't recommend anyone to bring their loved ones here. Even the nursing director didn't know the basics - like how to check for a stroke. And the head nurse? Don't get me started. When we first walked in, we saw a woman in a wheelchair by the front door, practically begging us to help her. Now we understand why. We got our dad out of there as quickly as we could.

"Brookdale Yorba Linda: Nice Place, Unclear Prices"
I work as a social worker and was looking into Brookdale Yorba Linda for some folks I'm assisting. One of them has dementia, and I didn't feel Brookdale was entirely upfront about the costs that her care would involve. As her needs became more apparent, the cost seemed to go sky-high. The place is very tasteful and sanitary. But the absence of clear communication about costs was a real problem.

"Attractive Facility With Repeated Service Issues"
We've recently run into some trouble lately with the facility not consistently offering all the services they claim to. For instance, the laundry service hasn't been meeting our expectations. This facility is quite nice, in fact. Right now, they're going through some renovations, like painting the hallways and replacing the carpets, among other things. I'm sure the place will look amazing when it's done. Most of the staff members do their best. But it feels like several issues keep repeating themselves, and we have to keep reminding them to fix it. Problems with her medication, the laundry services they offer, and the likes.

"I Didn’t Like It at First, But Now I’m Enjoying It"
I wasn’t a fan of this place initially, but now I’m enjoying it. It just took some time to adjust from my usual lifestyle. The facility’s interior is really clean—excellent, in fact. Everyone there is friendly, and the care services are top-notch. The level of care provided is great, and the activities are pretty good. Overall, my experience has been positive so far. It just requires some patience during the transition. Unfortunately, I can’t rate the value because it doesn’t apply.

"Mixed Feelings on Care Evaluation, Warm Atmosphere at Brookdale Yorba Linda Assisted Living"
The place feels like home, everyone is friendly and helpful. But sometimes they assess your loved one's needs higher than they really are, which means higher costs. I'll talk to them about this. Everything's going okay. The staff is friendly, and the place is clean. They've got a great activity program. The food isn't very exciting, especially in the memory care area. "Decent Assisted Living Home with Potential for Improvement"
This assisted living facility is pretty solid. It's not perfect, but it's pretty decent. The staff is caring, but a few could improve their professionalism. The place is kept clean overall, though it could use a touch-up here and there. The resident rooms are cozy enough and functional. The place offers a fair amount of activities. So, you're not just stuck in your room all day. Overall, not too shabby, but there's room for improvement.
