"Assisted Living Facility: Mixed Experience"

I don't have many points of comparison, but overall, it has been helpful for my loved one. Sometimes, I wish the staff were more attentive. I might recommend it to other families.

"Needs More Staff, But Good for Budgets"

We put our family member here because they speak Armenian. It's okay for now. You get what you pay for. They should hire more helpers. It's fine if you don't have a lot of money.

"Affordable Assisted Living with Room for Improvement"

Overall, the place is pretty good. You kind of get the quality based on how much money you spend. The people working here aren’t always super nice or really eager to help out. Plus, the building feels old and a little run-down. But the good thing is, it doesn’t cost too much. So, it’s got some good and some not-so-good points, but mostly, it’s alright.

"Cannot Accommodate to Shared Rooms Right Now"

Having to share rooms isn't working for us currently.

"Cozy, Clean Assisted Living"

It's a smaller place with one main room for everyone. Very clean and pleasant.

"Gardens at Park Balboa: Nice but Costly"

I visited the Gardens while searching for a place for my mom. It was nice, and I liked it, but it was more expensive than other places I checked out. In the end, I preferred some other places. This place seemed nice, but other places offered more for a better price.

"Warm and Welcoming"

This place is amazing! has been super helpful. Everyone is so nice and friendly. The whole place feels warm and welcoming. When we toured, they had rooms ready for us to choose from. When my brother moved in, I was on vacation, and he got really sick. The staff took him to the hospital and brought him back. They told me not to worry and that they would call if anything changed. They really care about him. They have fun activities like arts and crafts, movies, trips to Walmart, and even the casino. I highly recommend this place!

"Exploring Assisted Living Options for Family Care"

We checked out this place for my sister's care. The employees were friendly and could answer our questions about the services they provide. However, it didn't really give us the vibe we were searching for. It might be a good idea for other families to visit this place if they're looking for care for a family member.

"Close to My Daughter and Loving It!"

I love living here! I usually keep to myself and work on my computer. The internet and WiFi are reliable. The food is delicious and there are lots of options. The housekeeping is excellent and keeps everything clean. I might join some activities later since they offer many. One big reason I chose this place is because it's close to my daughter.

"Great People and Atmosphere"

My aunt really likes the people and the place.

"Caring and Grateful!"

My mom finally has a routine here, which was hard to achieve at home. Her room is always tidy when we visit, no matter the time of day. She enjoys the food and her new roommate. The medical staff is excellent with her medications, and the care staff pays close attention.

"Friendly Staff Who Truly Care"

The staff here are super friendly and helpful. They really care about the residents.

"Great care and communication!"

My mom recently moved to the acute care unit here, and I'm really impressed with the care she gets. The staff are always there for her and help her all day because she's at risk of falling. The nurses and administration do a great job of keeping me updated on any changes to her care plan. The residents have a structured day with lots of activities and projects, which I love. Overall, I have no complaints and would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

"My Mom Thrives in the Community"

My mom lives in this community, and she receives excellent care. The facility is safe, and they offer activities for both residents and my mom. She really enjoys the meals they serve.

"Perfect New Home for Our Aunt"

It's clear to us that our Aunt's needs will be met in every way. This will be her new home and a fresh start. Gardens at Park Balboa met all our expectations and impressed us during the tour and with all the questions we asked. We are confident we made the right decision and are now excited for our Aunt!

"Perfect Place for Mom"

This place turned out to be perfect for my mom. She’s getting the socializing and structure she needed. Her days are now filled with purpose because of the activities throughout the day. She keeps telling me how wonderful the staff is and that the food is good. She loves the "Walking Club" in the mornings since she loves to walk. I’m really grateful I found The Gardens at Park Balboa with the help of "A Place for Mom." Knowing she’s safe and eating well has been a huge relief. It’s hard to take care of a young family and an elderly parent while working full time.

"A Wonderful New Home for Mom"

My mother-in-law is settling into her new home at this amazing community. The staff is fantastic and knows everyone by their first names. They serve delicious meals with a daily menu and specials. There are lots of activities to keep everyone active. My mother-in-law is very happy in her clean home and nice community. We highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great care and good value.

"Mom’s doing well and staff is great!"

I recently moved my mom in because she couldn’t be on her own safely. She’s having moments where she wants to return to her old life, but overall, she seems to be doing well. The staff is great, always friendly with smiles. Her first event was the Luau, and she loved it. She even met a woman whose husband she used to work with over 50 years ago! GAPB has given me peace of mind that I haven’t had in months. I realized I was running myself into the ground. I’m very grateful for the help from Michelle at A Place for Mom and the ladies at GAPB, Klara and Vickie. Thank you all so much.

"Gardens At Park Balboa: A Nice Place!"

The place is super clean, and the outdoor areas are really pleasant. I’d totally suggest this community. My only gripe is with one staff member and the insurance paperwork. But overall, the staff is friendly and helpful. The food is tasty, and my loved one enjoys joining the fun outings.

"Feels Like Home"

They made it super easy for my loved one to move in. I can't say enough good things about how they made her feel at home. She loves the food and is really happy there.

"Wouldn't act until someone showed up"

I didn't like how they ran the business. They wouldn't do anything until someone showed up.

"Great Care with Minor Billing Issue"

They take my mom shopping, but she only gets an hour in the store. The only thing I didn't like was when they assessed my mom. She's pretty independent, but later they said she needed help with bathing. When we got her first bill, it was on there, so we had to figure that out. That was kind of a problem.

"Sincere Efforts Shine"

Definitely a nice place. The staff tries really hard, and they're very sincere. The folks there mean well. They have some room for improvement, but they're actively working on making changes.

"Great food, activities, and lovely apartments with beautiful gardens"

My mom is really happy here. The food is great, there are many activities, and they offer transportation to nearby places and special trips. The apartment rooms are a nice size, and the layout is great. The gardens are beautiful.

"Always Adaptable"

The staff at Gardens At Park Balboa are super helpful and easygoing. If you want something a bit different, they're always happy to adjust. That's really nice.

"Nice place, overall!"

My loved one has been here briefly. Gardens at Park Balboa is clean and well-maintained. Staff is friendly and helpful. Good variety of activities. I wish they would encourage residents to participate more.

"First Impressions at The Park's at Baboa Won Us Over"

We checked out The Park's at Baboa on July 4th weekend. I gotta say, the workers there really blew me away. They knew their stuff and shared all the details we needed. Now, my folks live there and honestly, the care they get there is way better than anything I could have imagined. I'd tell anyone who needs this kinda help to definitely check this place out.

"Thriving at The Gardens: A Perfect Place for Mom!"

We really like The Gardens at Park Balboa. My 91-year-old mom stayed there for two weeks to decide if it was right for her. During those two weeks, she got healthier, walked better, and was happier. The people there are nice, both the other guests and the staff. You can tell the staff like what they do. After the two weeks, we moved my mom into The Gardens at Park Balboa. She's doing great! She goes on trips, does exercise classes, plays bingo, and joins in on lots of activities throughout the day. I think The Gardens at Park Balboa is great. We saw a TV ad for A Place for Mom, and they suggested a few places. We picked The Gardens at Park Balboa, and it was a good choice.

"Very impressed with the information presented."

Impressed with Abbe's presentation. Comprehensive tour, friendly staff, spacious rooms.

"Active but Worn-down Assisted Living Community"

When we were exploring choices for my loved one's care, we visited this place. The people living here looked super happy and really busy. I saw tons of folks chatting and walking around. There was even a band playing lively tunes and an intense bingo game underway. I wasn't thrilled with how the place looked inside - it was a bit shabby and run down. The carpets were old and musty. The rooms were big but looked tired and a bit gloomy.

"Wonderful Memory Care Facility"

My loved one hasn't been here long, but so far, it's been great. The aides and staff are very caring and take good care of him. They know how to handle the issues that come with memory care patients really well. I like the layout of the place; it's secure but has areas to walk and courtyards to get fresh air. He's settling in nicely, has met a few people, and is joining in some activities. Plus, this was one of the most affordable memory care communities I found! This place is definitely worth checking out.

"Highly Recommend for Great Care!"

It's hard to say if it's worth the price, but it's really good. She really misses the activities. The staff was amazing; everyone I met was super helpful. The dining and meals were great. They had a super fun Halloween party! It was a great experience. Dana, Abby, everyone was awesome. I would recommend it to anyone because they are so attentive.

"Mom is Thriving at Her New Home"

From my mom's point of view, she'd say it's a great value. My mom loves it here. They have activities, and while I don't know all of them, I do know she enjoys playing bingo. I think she's going to join the residents' committee too. The only thing I would suggest for improvement is that the sliding doors to the rooms seem like they were installed backwards. Maybe there's a reason for that. They are doing their best to accommodate my mom for security purposes. My mom loves it. She's so happy there!

"A Cheerful Place with Helpful Staff"

I went to this assisted living place, and everyone seemed happy there. The staff were friendly and always in a good mood. The building is in a noisy area, but they have a cool courtyard. One of the staff members, was awesome. She gave me great advice on dealing with dementia and moving to a new place.

"Assisted Living Experience: Pleasant Atmosphere, Challenges with Layout and Care"

It was really nice. I enjoyed their cafeteria a lot. Actually, I found their cafeteria to be really great. The place was very beautiful, but it was for an 80-year-old man who has trouble hearing. His eyesight is perfect, but he needed more help than I expected he would get here, and he couldn't navigate the layout on his own.

"Great staff, clean place, and good layout."

Everything’s going well. The place is really great and working out nicely. My parents have some complaints, but I’m very happy with it. The place is clean, which I like, and it’s built like an old California hotel with everything outside, so there’s no hallway smell. The staff is fantastic and really caring. The activities are good, though my dad has trouble getting to them because of his handicap. It’s more of a psychological challenge for him. The staff tries hard to get everyone involved, so they’re doing their job well. This is our first place, and I hope it’s our last!

"Great care with lots of interaction and activities."

They're great and really interact with the residents. They plan lots of activities. I had a list of five places; two were too far away. Out of the remaining three, I liked Park Balboa the best. It’s close enough for me to visit easily. My loved one has dementia, so she's often confused, but we’re pleased with her care and the staff there.

"Caring Community"

Our loved one didn’t quite fit in here. We hope they can improve the caregiver-to-resident ratio. The staff did a good job taking care of them—they were friendly and helpful. We’d recommend this place to others.

"Mom Ain't Sold on This Decent Hotel-Like Facility"

This place is pretty decent. I'm planning to show it to mom once she gets here. Mom wasn't too impressed by this place. It seemed more like a hotel to her.

"I love it! Perfect place for him"

I love it! This place would be perfect for him. He thinks it's too expensive.

"Light, bright, clean, and friendly staff"

I really liked it. The place is light, bright, and clean. I met most of the friendly staff and many of the residents.

"Fair Priced Assisted Living with Good Alzheimer's Program and Friendly Staff"

It's a pretty decent place. The prices are fair and they have a good program for Alzheimer's. Plus, the staff is really friendly.

"Parents Happy, Staff Friendly, Facilities Dated, But Overall Impressive"

My folks had a blast checking out this place. We saw four apartments and had a yummy lunch. The boss lady, Director, was super nice, and Dad was really impressed. He thinks her charm convinced him to choose Park Balboa. The buildings are kinda old-fashioned, but everyone, even the residents, was really nice. Dad's already decided to put down a deposit for an apartment. Mom struggles with stairs, so Dad wants to move ASAP.

"Brighter Rooms, Limited Parking: Second Tour Impressions"

I went for a second look, and the staff was friendly. The rooms seemed brighter, with nicer bathrooms. But the dining room was smaller, and the street outside was noisy and busy. They didn't have much parking space for guests, but they did have a bigger elevator.

4/5.00 Published 11 years ago

"Liked this one! Clean, nice personnel"

I really liked this place! It’s clean, and the staff is nice. The director was great, and the rooms are nice too—they’re all private. You’ll need to bring your own furniture and TV, but they have cable.
