"Residents Thrive in Welcoming Assisted Living Facility"

The facility is clean, helpful, and friendly. The residents appear content and well-fed.

""UNSUITABLE SPOT: DANGEROUS, BAD SERVICE, OVERPRICED""

This place is awful, not safe, and too pricey. My mom had an accident within a few days of living there, she was hurt and got bruises. Nobody from the staff ever bothered to inform me. It even took them two days before they called a nurse. The lady who owns it and her son only care about money and do a bad job. Her dogs are always running loose in the house. They also totally ignore any requests for information.

"Caregivers' Untruthful and Inappropriate Behavior at Assisted Living Facility"

I also had the same issues mentioned here. This facility couldn't manage my Mom's diabetic diet and they lied about it. They used my Mom's bathroom and shower chair - which I had to pay a lot of money for because Medicare doesn't cover it - for other residents. The caregivers got really mad when they found out I knew.

"Be cautious: Lacks Honesty and Care for Individual Needs"

I encountered similar issues as mentioned here. They completely failed to cater to my mom's diabetic meals and misrepresented the truth about it. Additionally, they inappropriately utilized my mom's expensive bathroom amenities, which I purchased and weren't covered under Medicare, for other residents. The staff reacted with anger when I confronted them about this issue.

"Disappointing Experience and Unanticipated Challenges at Golden Coast"

My wife had numerous discussions with Usha Villareal, the owner of Golden Coast, before we decided to shift my mother-in-law from a professional nursing unit to Golden Coast. Golden Coast was presented as the ideal option by A Place for Mom ("APFM"). We emphasized my mother-in-law’s numerous requirements as she was mainly bed-bound, had to be aided completely with bathroom needs, and needed attention 2-3 times per night due to pain and comfort issues. APFM and the nurse were fully informed about her needs and I believe it was these needs that led to Golden Coast being suggested by APFM, particularly because she is a licensed nurse. While speaking with them, we were very clear about my mother-in-law's needs. We even asked about the possible scenarios where Golden Coast had to ask a resident to leave. They assured us that such situations were rare and only occurred once when a resident had a change in medical condition needing a feeding tube, which Golden Coast was not licensed to assist with. However, our experience at Golden Coast was much different from the picture the nurse painted. Within three days of her arrival, we got a call from them complaining about the frequency of my mother-in-law's night-time requests and how these might lead to her staff quitting. Besides, there were unforeseen expenses. We knew about the costs involved, but were surprised when an extra $500 per month was added for "hospice" care during the contract signing. The nurse had previously mentioned that admittance "under hospice" would cover some costs related to hospital bed and transportation, but never mentioned any additional fee. She also asked for an upfront payment for the first and last month's rent, a move that we found legally questionable. When we tried discussing the extra $500 a month fee with the nurse she didn't express any regret and was plainly rude. We were increasingly treated with such rude behavior and decided to not complain to APFM, fearing that it might negatively affect my mother-in-law's care. Although there were many other issues, the most upsetting part was how she created a sudden and unexpected crisis about the night-time assistance that at the initial meeting had been assured would be no trouble at all. Adding to the saga, some good, some not so great, my mother-in-law passed away within six days of her move to Golden Coast. I won’t assert a direct link but her condition did take a turn for the worse after a mere three days at Golden Coast.

"Golden Coast Experience: Expectations VS Harsh Reality"

My wife and I had heaps of discussions with Usha Villareal, who owns Golden Coast before we decided to move my mother-in-law from a local nursing facility to Golden Coast. Golden Coast was a top suggestion from A Place for Mom ("APFM"). We carefully explained our Mom's many needs. At that time, she could hardly get out of bed, needed full help in the washroom, and required care several times during the night either for the washroom, pain, or comfort requests. We shared all these details with APFM. In my view, the fact that Mom needed a lot of care was why Golden Coast was recommended so much by APFM. During our meeting we went into great detail about what Mom needed. My wife even wondered what would cause Golden Coast to ask a resident to leave. She mentioned almost no cases, except where a resident was suddenly needing help with feeding, which Golden Coast apparently isn't allowed to provide. But things at Golden Coast were nothing like we thought they would be from how she described it. Within three days, she called us and basically said Mom can't keep needing help during the night. She moaned that one of her workers might leave if the night help didn't stop. And there were surprises about money. Even though we thought we knew how much it would all cost, when it was time to sign their contract, they suddenly wanted to charge an extra $500 a month for "hospice" care, which had never been talked about. Actually, she had said that having Mom admitted "under Hospice" could cover some bed and transportation costs with Medicare. She also wanted us to pay for the first and last month's rent ahead of time, which we didn't think was regular. When I called to talk about this sudden extra $500 a month that my brother-in-law had to deal with when he signed the contract (he was handling Mom's stuff), she didn't feel bad at all and was actually pretty rude to me. We started to expect this kind of bossy attitude from her. We decided together not to complain back to APFM because we didn't want Mom's care to suffer. There were many other problems, but I can't list them all here. In short, it felt like we were stuck and disappointed with how quickly she said there was a problem with the nighttime help. In our meeting, she said that wouldn't be an issue at all, but now suddenly she said it was a big one. There's more to the story, some good things, some bad. After only six days at Golden Coast, Mom passed away. I can't say for sure, but it seemed like she got a lot worse after just three days at Golden Coast.

"Appalling conditions and poor management at assisted living facility"

This place is badly managed and owned! I would never allow any family member to stay here. There's a high rate of employee turnover, and it's hit or miss whether they speak English. The food is awful, sometimes there's barely anything to eat. The caregivers are mistreated and overworked by the boss. The main concern at this location seems to be money!

"Avoid this Assisted Living Facility At All Costs!"

This place is managed poorly and the owners aren't any better. I wouldn't recommend putting anyone you care about here. They can't seem to keep staff for long, and some of them can hardly speak English. The food is just awful - and sometimes there's hardly any of it. The caregivers here are underappreciated and overworked, pushed to the limit by the person in charge. This place only cares about making money!
