"Disappointing experience near home; not recommended by many families."
We chose this place because it's close to our house. But we wouldn't recommend it. And we're not the only ones. Other folks have the same worries we do.

"Poor care and unhelpful staff at this assisted living facility"
Our time here was really bad. If your family member needs a lot of help and can't do things on their own, don't bring them here. They didn't take good care of my dad, they just kept giving him medicine. They had no one to hire and the people they did hire didn't know what they were doing. The boss was not at all supportive. I wouldn't tell other families to go here.

"Small but Nice Assisted Living"
This place is nice, but the biggest room is a small 1-bedroom with 500 square feet.

"Mixed Feelings About Kirkwood Orange Assisted Living"
The people who work at Kirkwood Orange are really nice, but sometimes the care isn't as good as we hoped. Except for the boss, everyone else is great to talk to. When my mom first came here, things seemed a bit messy and disorganized. They said there would be a full-time nurse and lots of caregivers for each resident, but we don't see that happening. Still, most of the staff really care and try hard to help the residents. Our family thinks it's a good deal for the money, even though it's a bit pricey. Compared to other places, we think it's worth it. Kirkwood Orange plans a lot of fun things for everyone who lives here. The place is always clean and neat, which is great. The food isn't the best, though—they could do better with that. During the Covid-19 pandemic, they've been careful and done a good job keeping everyone safe. So far, no one here has gotten sick with the virus.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
All the residents were playing 'bowling' after an ice cream party. I waited for half an hour for the tour guide. The staff leading the activity and the young man at the entrance were friendly, but I thought they acted a bit condescending. The tour lady (probably the executive director) made comments that made me feel like she didn't care about the residents (like saying 'Everybody wants special privileges'). My mother-in-law lived in Kirkwood for three months ten years ago, but it felt more caring back then. The ownership has changed.

"Mixed Feeling About New Management at Assisted Living Facility"
When I arrived, they were all doing a bowling game after an ice cream party, but I had to wait for 30 minutes before someone finally showed me around. The staff organizing the game and the young guy who welcomed me seemed really friendly with the seniors, but I felt they were talking down to them a bit. The woman who gave me the tour, probably the boss, didn't impress me. She said things that made me think she found the seniors more annoying than anything. She said stuff like 'Everybody wants special privileges.' About a decade ago, my mother-in-law stayed at Kirkwood for around three months, before she had a stroke. Back then, it seemed much friendlier and caring compared to my recent visit, and I know it's under new management now.

"Great place but less private than Sunrise; cost is similar"
We first liked this place a lot before we visited Sunrise. Both were great choices with unique features for active people. However, the shared room here wasn't as private, and we worried that our loved one might disturb a roommate. The building was nicely designed and welcoming. The cost was similar to Sunrise.

"Great Place but Too Distant for My Mom"
I visited Kirkwood while searching for a place for my mom. I thought it was a great community. The place had a really nice feel, and I especially liked the ice cream parlor right at the entrance. Since my mom loves ice cream, it would have been perfect for her. Unfortunately, it was too far away, so I ended up picking a different community for her.

"New Ownership at Kirkwoood Orange Lowers Care Standards"
Just a heads up, Kirkwoood Orange has a new owner now. My dad's been living there for 6 years and we're starting to think about different places for him. The number of staff members have declined a lot and I don't feel like the care is enough anymore. It's not the caregivers' fault, they're great, but there's not enough of them to look after everyone properly. It's sad that the new people in charge seem to prefer spending money on making things look nice rather than taking care of the folks living there.

"Great Vibes and Friendly Faces"
I would totally recommend Kirkwood Orange to friends and family. They just got new owners, so I hope everything stays the same. I’ve eaten with my mom there, and she really likes the food and the variety they offer. Her room is super comfortable, clean, and cozy. They have lots of activities, and while she doesn’t have a favorite, it’s a great way for her to meet other residents and make new friends. The landscaping is beautiful, and there’s a patio with seating where residents can enjoy the fresh air. This place has really good vibes.

"Great Place with Caring Staff and Lots of Activities"
This community is really nice and mostly clean and well-kept. There’s room for a few improvements, but overall, it’s good. The staff do a great job keeping my dad active and social. They’re caring and pay attention to his needs. My dad enjoys the happy hour and the music they have for residents. He also likes going on the outings. The food looks good, and he always has two options to choose from. I would recommend this place because my dad is doing really well!

"Wonderful place with great food and activities!"
Dad has been at Kirkwood Orange for a short time, but it's been great! He feels very comfortable and is adjusting well. He can join many activities or stay in his room and chat with his daily visitor. The food is amazing! I tried the ricotta cheese ravioli, and it was delicious! They also have a daily exercise program for residents. Overall, it's a wonderful place, and I'd choose it for myself too!

"Great place, but RN coverage could be clearer"
We’re really happy here. The place is very clean, and the staff is super friendly. They cost a lot less than another place we looked at. Communication among the staff and with us is good, but they could be a bit more organized and disciplined with passing information to the next shift. They have great activities and the food is about the same as other places. It’s cooked without salt, but you can add it if you want, and it tastes very good. The chef is really nice and cares about the residents. The literature says they have an RN, but there’s only one RN on the weekend. The medical director is an LVN, which isn’t a big deal, but she’s mostly in management. It would be helpful if she trained the staff better. This seemed a little misleading since there isn’t an RN on staff all the time.
