"Neglectful Assisted Living Facility - Lack of Care and Attention"

On a certain day at 8pm, my dad toppled over from his chair and landed on the ground. Despite dialing every number provided by the facility, no assistance came. As of 7:30 the next morning, he was still lifeless on the floor. They barely ever feed him and he goes months without a shower. Please, if you care for your loved ones, don't put them in this place.

"Inadequate Care and Poor Management at Assisted Living Facility"

Everything about this facility is mismanaged. The worst part is that they don't consistently give the necessary medications. The staff barely responds to the emergency calls, leaving residents waiting for hours. The food is dreadful. It's overly dry and cheap. The sandwiches have such tiny portions of meat, you can't even taste it. Plus, there always seems to be a shortage of staff. I've heard these so-called "experts" yelling at the residents and bullying them. It's disrespectful and awful for these vulnerable seniors. Yet, the residents are too scared to speak up because this crew of staff and management stick together. They'll retaliate if they find out you complained. Regarding the facility's reviews, they don't show how badly this place is run now. Most of the reviews are from back in 2018 or earlier, under the old name 'The Meridian'. At that time, it was okay. Please check the latest reviews. I strongly advise against putting your loved one in Arlington Riverside Senior Community without a thorough investigation into the facility. Their website’s information is outdated and refers to its time as 'The Meridian'. Nowadays, they're just trying to attract more residents by sprucing up the exterior. That money could be better spent on quality food and sufficient staff. This isn't the place to spend your golden years, especially if you require aid. Assistance is scarce in this "assisted living" facility due to understaffing. There's a laundry list of other problems here. Ensure you understand what you're getting into.

" "Careless and Unclean: A Nightmare Assisted Living Facility""

I recently stopped by this facility to visit a cherished family friend, and I have to tell you, it was an absolute horror show. I wouldn't wish this place on my worst enemy, let alone someone I love. If you place no value on proper care, cleanliness, or suitable working conditions, then by all means, this might be your spot. But if you do, make a quick U-turn - this place is a disaster. It's regularly unclean, seemingly understaffed, and the management appears to be as far from professional as you can get. They don’t seem to care about their employees, let alone their residents. The pay for their hardworking staff is so low that I actually heard them discussing bounced checks as I was walking down the corridor. Moreover, the oppressive odor in this place is grossly unbearable and the people living here seem terribly unhappy and neglected. To give you a glimpse of how bad it is, the friend I visited was left sitting in the bathroom for over an hour because he couldn't get up on his own and the caregivers were nowhere to be found.

"Great place for Dad!"

The facility is well-kept and the staff is friendly. It has the best price I've found. I'd be happy for my dad to live here.

"Disappointing Visit and Meal at Assisted Living"

We felt let down by the Meridian team. A staff member was super friendly and knew a lot about the place, and showing us around was okay. But having lunch there wasn’t a good idea. This staff member guided us to a separate eating area, promised to return for a chat, but didn’t. A kind kitchen worker asked about our drinks; we picked water and lemonade. The water tasted just like the not-so-great local water, and then we sat waiting for our food. The room was too warm, and no one else was there. When our lunch did arrive, it was a letdown. The turkey and stuffing were both dry, and the zucchini was mushy. My wife got up to ask for some gravy, and a friendly kitchen lady brought us beef gravy. But the stuffing was already too salty, and the gravy just made it worse. I’d give that lunch a solid 1 out of 10. After eating, a nice guy, the concierge, popped in. We chatted briefly before heading out. We were eager to leave and regretted choosing to eat there. Other places we’ve seen offer different meal choices, but here, we were told there’s only one option. Overall, it was a poor experience, and I wouldn’t want my mom living here.

"Potential Residents Disappointed by Experience at Meridian Assisted Living"

We were really let down by the staff at Meridian. One employee, whose name I won't mention, was super friendly and knew a lot about the place. She gave us a good tour. We planned to have lunch which ended up being a bad idea. The same employee took us to a private eating room and promised to come back and chat with us, but she disappeared. A nice guy from the kitchen stopped by to take our drink order, we picked water and lemonade. The water tasted like typical Riverside water (which isn't a compliment) and then we waited for our food. The room was really warm and we were left by ourselves. When lunch finally arrived, it was a letdown. The turkey and stuffing were dry, and the zucchini was overcooked. My wife went to ask for gravy, and a sweet kitchen worker brought us beef gravy. But, the stuffing was too salty and the gravy was even saltier. I'd give that meal a 1, if I had to rate it between 1 and 10. We pushed through the meal and then a nice guy, the concierge whose name I can't recall, stopped by. We chatted for a while and then got out of there. We honestly couldn't leave fast enough and we really wish we'd passed on the lunch. All the other places we've toured had more than one meal option, but when we asked about it, we were told there weren't any at Meridian. It was a pretty negative experience and there's no way I'd let my mom live here.

"Facility lacks staff, rushed tour, smelled bad; wouldn't recommend."

I visited this place while searching for somewhere for my family member. It felt very sad and had a strong bad smell. It reminded me of a nursing home, which I didn't like. During the tour, they hurried us through everything. Maybe they knew a lot, but they didn't let me ask many questions. It seemed like they didn't have enough staff. I wouldn't suggest this place.

"Great Place, But Nursing and Med Management Fall Short"

Moving my dad to this place wasn't easy. The building's really cool and everybody, from the caregivers to the sales folks to the receptionists, are pretty sweet. They know us by name and it feels like they genuinely care. Plus, the place is clean and doesn't stink. The issue is with the nursing staff and whoever's in charge of them. They've been rough around the edges and lack consistency. My dad keeps running out of his pills and they don't refill them for days. My dad's still sharp and it breaks my heart to see him worry about what'll happen when his memory starts to fail. He's noticed his meds aren't always there. We're forking over extra cash for services that we aren't even getting. Aside from that, the place is top-notch. They're pretty smart about handling stuff like a flu outbreak. They keep things under control so it doesn't spread. I'd tell others to consider this place, but warn them to keep a close eye on the med situation.

"Slow response to life alert and other issues"

My family member lives here right now. It hasn’t been smooth and I'm not sure this place is right for them. It feels like there aren’t enough helpers, even though they're generally okay to talk to. My family member has fallen a few times since staying there. What worries me most is that they always have a life alert necklace on. When they push its button, there've been times when it has taken up to an hour for the helpers to come. They are supposed to check on everyone every 20 minutes and that clearly hasn't been happening. The place is pretty clean. My family member's room is supposed to be cleaned every Saturday, but when I visit the next day it doesn’t look any different. I don’t know what’s happening there, but the rest of the building is fine. I'm not happy with the laundry service. They mix up the clothes which has ruined some with color bleeding. The food situation is also problematic - my family member is vegetarian. They showed us a lovely vegetarian meal during our tour, but since then, it's been tough getting them reliable vegetarian meals. I think we'll soon start searching for a different assisted living facility.

"Outdated and Needs Some TLC"

I visited this place while searching for a home for my dad. The tour was amazing. The girl giving the tour shared lots of information we didn’t even think to ask about. She was wonderful. However, we decided not to choose this place for a few reasons. They invited us to stay for lunch, which was nice, but there was only one menu option and my dad didn’t like the food. The area didn’t feel safe, especially at night and if I visited alone. The common area looked old and worn out and needed some updates. Even my 80-year-old dad noticed and commented on it. On the plus side, the facility was very clean and the people were extremely nice.

"Seriously upset and frustrated by this assisted living community"

My mom recently lived in this place for a bit, and I wouldn't suggest anyone put their loved ones here. I spoke to the folks running the place first, and they assured me she'd get her meds as needed. That never happened, leading me to pull her out of there. On top of that, her doctor made some changes I didn't know about which left her feeling confused. They never told me what was really happening when I wasn't there. I was really upset about this. I wouldn't even trust these guys to look after my pet.

"Unimpressive Assisted Living: Lackluster Facility and Staff"

The building didn't look nice from outside. I didn't feel like going in. My husband had been there before for work and didn't like the place or the people working there.

"Great place with affordable prices but a bit understaffed"

My mom is really happy at this assisted living place. The price is great, but it might be a bit understaffed, so response times can be slow sometimes. If they hired more staff, the cost would likely increase. Overall, we're pleased with it!

"Uninviting and Old-Fashioned Facility"

I never actually went inside the Meridian of Riverside; I only saw it from the outside. But from that quick glance, the place didn’t look welcoming. It’s a big, old structure that reminds me of an outdated nursing home with several floors. The whole place gave off a spooky vibe, and I just couldn’t imagine my mom living there.

"Great care and friendly staff!"

I really like the care my mom gets here. The staff is super nice and caring. The community is clean, and there are many healthy meals. She enjoys making friends and loves joining in the fun activities. We highly recommend this community for its great care and good value for families.

"Great tour, nice place, but bad location for me."

I had a good time touring this community. Everything looked fine to me, including the facility and how they run it. But it's not in a good spot for what I need.

"Just Not in the Right Location"

"Great food and caring staff!"

The staff at Meridian is taking good care of my husband, but they could use more help on weekends and evenings. Sometimes, I have trouble getting through when I call. My husband enjoys playing games and loves the food; he's even gained weight since moving in! One way they could improve is by serving the food hotter. Everyone here is very nice and helpful.

"Decent place, value-for-money but with notable flaws"

When we first came here, we loved the personal care and the quality of the center. But, encountering a few hiccups with the payment process and sluggish service when it comes to personal care needs have lessened our enthusiasm a bit. Plus, they've moved dinner time to so early that it's downright silly. We believe it to be a good place though, considering it provides value for money, is safe, clean, and offers the essential features. However, there are a few issues that need to be addressed.

"Lovely Assisted Living Tour with Great Director!"

I visited this place, and it was really nice. It was just as good as other places I checked out, in terms of price and quality. The person in charge talked with me for about an hour, answering my questions not only about the place but also about the situation in general. I never felt like he was trying to push me into choosing his place; he just wanted to help me find the right one. They were very helpful!

"Friendly Staff; Processed Food; Salad Ordering"

This place has nice staff and nothing really bothers me. But there's too much processed food. You can get a salad if you ask ahead of time though.

"Friendly and Super Accommodating"

"Abhorrent Facility Falls Short on Care, Costs Lives"

This place has serious issues. They were missing critical medicines when my father stayed for one night, which I observed firsthand. They thought a hundred dollar payoff was enough to cover their mistakes. Within twenty days, my mother developed a wound so deep it reached her bone. The short time my parents spent here triggered a series of health problems which ultimately led to my mother's death. My dad also lost nearly 20 pounds during his stay. Call buttons were broken. They sold me a hundred dollar alert necklace they never responded to. On one visit, my dad was distressingly dressed in my mother's clothes. This place is truly abhorrent. Unsurprisingly, other families have had fears about medication shortages and have also lost their loved ones. The operators are the same folks who ran the previous facility, which was closed down. They simply switched the business name and license, which now lacks any valuable history. When you assess this place, ask about the age of their license. If it's new, investigate the past owners and license to see if they're the ones managing it now.

"Great care and friendly staff!"

We are very happy with this place. We really like the staff. From the moment we walked in, everyone said hi and wanted to know how they could help. They work really hard and are always happy to do their job. We are thrilled with the quality of care. Our loved one usually doesn’t join in on activities, but here he does, so they are great at engaging him. The food is good too!

"Wonderful care and happy memories for my dad"

I moved my dad to this place after a lot of searching, and I was so pleased. He was very happy there (he has since passed), but they took great care of him. I didn’t have to worry. His room was clean, the food was good, and the staff was wonderful and caring! He enjoyed shopping and the activities. His room was spacious with an easy-to-use bathroom. I was happy with everything. I wish I had done it sooner. He was much happier there than alone in his small apartment. I came a long way, and they were fantastic in helping him get settled.

"Exceptional Care for My Wife"

I know I can talk to you anytime in your office, but I wanted to write to thank you and your staff for the care you’ve given my wife. We moved to Meridian from another Assisted Living Facility because the conditions and clinical care there were not what we expected. Here at Meridian, I feel secure. My wife has memory problems, but you took special care of her until she could be placed in a memory care facility. The care you provided was the first real fight against her condition. I want to thank you and the “Care Givers” for your attention. Ms. Harris stayed most of the night personally caring for my wife, and your comforting assistance during the evening was invaluable. Please thank all the “care givers” for us, as they all go beyond “just doing a job.

"Lack of Guidance Hampers Experience, Despite Good Care Quality"

If they had someone to help communicate between the nurses and us because he was quite far along, more than we realized, and he wasn't fully able-bodied, it would've been better. Maybe if we could've paid for more care, we could've gotten that assistance. We were there for such a short time that we couldn't really build that relationship. The care was good; we just didn't have enough time. The only issue was that if you're new to the place, you're just kind of lost. They don't have someone to greet you or guide you through it all. They do have someone who sits down with you at first, but he's more of the financial guy. I know more about senior communities than I ever wanted to know.

"Good Activities and Caring Staff"

Absolutely Wonderful! I believe they’re putting in a lot of effort to make their guests happy, and it’s a very positive environment. They have an activities director who leads exercises and games, and they organize outings. Even though my mom is in a wheelchair and doesn’t use the bus much, they provide transportation to the doctor and other places. Additionally, they have religious services and Bible readings, which my mom appreciates. Overall, she’s much happier here than at her previous place, and she’s more communicative.
