"Great Place but Pricey for 1 Bedroom"
This place is too expensive for a one-bedroom apartment, but it's really nice otherwise.

"Feels like home with great care and support."
My 95-year-old mom has been at Merrill Gardens for almost two years. She really enjoys the accommodations, food, and activities, and has made lots of friends. I appreciate the caring and professional staff who treat my mom like family.

"Comfortable place, but wrong location"
I recently took a tour of this community for my mother and I have no complaints about how it went. The staff answered all our questions and did a nice job with the presentation. The dining room was spacious and they even offered us a meal to try. It just wasn't the right location for us in the end.

"Great staff but lacks memory care unit"
Merrill Gardens was a great place. The staff was always attentive and quick to respond. They kept checking in with me and answered all my questions. We didn’t choose it because they didn’t have a memory care unit.

"Great Location and Friendly Staff"
I loved this place too. It's close to Balboa Park and a short taxi/Uber ride to Downtown San Diego. The rooms are big, and I like all the amenities. The staff is super friendly. [Removed] were great ambassadors for the place. I would definitely keep this place on my short list. The only two downsides are that it's a bit pricey, and the décor is more traditional, not modern. But that's a small issue when you look at the whole picture.

"Beautiful Scenery and Perfect Views"
The scenery here is amazing, and the views are perfect. The weather is great (San Diego, of course, lol), and the landscape is so green and nice.

"Great place with nice staff and clean rooms"
This assisted living facility is pretty good. The staff is very nice and helpful, always ready to assist when needed. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and the food is decent. There are a lot of activities to keep everyone busy and entertained. Sometimes there can be a bit of a wait for help, but overall, it's a great place for anyone who needs extra care.

The location is great, the facility is clean and well-decorated, and the food is tasty. My 90-year-old dad is very happy there.

"Pleasant Experience at Merrill Gardens Assisted Living"
My dad just moved into Merrill Gardens, and things are going well. He enjoys the food and the location. The staff has kept me informed. There was a lot of paperwork before moving in, but I think that's normal for these places.

"Great Facilities, Mixed Experience"
It's a great place, and I feel it suits me well. At first, there were issues with the medication plan. Communication about that was really poor. They've also added extra charges. The food is just okay, and the chef isn't that great. The menu looks good, though, and the facilities are fantastic. The place is clean, staff is friendly, and everyone knows each other's names.

"Fantastic Fit!"
Wow, this place is amazing! I feel like it’s a perfect match for me. At first, there were some issues with the medication routine, but the communication about it was really bad. They definitely need to improve that. Also, they’ve started adding extra charges for things. I get calls all the time when something comes up. The food is just okay, maybe a 3 out of 5. The chef isn’t great, and some dishes have been cold. But the menu looks good, and the facilities are fantastic. Everything is new, clean, and in great shape. The staff is friendly, and everyone knows each other’s names. It’s become our standard test for quality.

"Nice Park with a Hospital Vibe, Fairly Priced"
The park is lovely but it feels too much like a hospital. The cost isn't too bad though.

"Great Staff, Misunderstood Bath Schedule"
Before choosing an assisted living place, make sure you're super clear about what you expect and get everything in writing. I made the mistake of assuming my mom would get daily baths, but it turns out it's only twice a week. That misunderstanding cost us an extra $600 per month. On the bright side, the staff is amazing, and the other residents are friendly and welcoming.

"Assisted Living: Ask, Confirm Costs; Great Staff, Friendly Community"
When picking an assisted living place, make sure you're clear about what you want and get it written down. I thought I said my mom bathes every day, but they only do it twice a week for the price they quoted. Our bill went up $600 a month because I didn't get it in writing. Since Mom moved in, the staff has been great, and the other residents are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people we've ever met.

"Great value, friendly staff, and lots of fun activities"
This place is really clean and the staff is super friendly. You definitely get a lot of value for your money here. They offer many amenities and do little things that you might not find elsewhere. While it's pricey, it's no more than other similar places. They use cloth napkins at meals and have a dining room open all the time. There's always something fun happening, like happy hours and various shows. There was a change in management recently, and for a while, things were a bit shaky with temporary staff and people covering multiple roles. But now, the management seems to be good, and things are much better.

"Great Amenities and Friendly Staff"
This place is very clean, and the staff is super friendly. You get a lot of value for your money here. They have many amenities and little extras you might not find elsewhere. It’s pricey, but not more than other places. They use cloth napkins on the tables and have a dining room where you can eat anytime. They offer lots of entertainment, like happy hours and different shows. They do a great job. Recently, they had a management change, and there was a period where temporary staff filled in and people did two jobs. The management seems good now, but there was a time when things were uncertain. It’s better now.

"Amazing place with friendly residents and long wait list"
This place is amazing! It's only two years old and looks great. The residents were active and seemed really friendly and happy. I would want to live here when I need to. But, of course, that's why there's a long wait list.

New building by Balboa Park. Cool option: choose meal times. If inside, rooms, and prices are good, rating goes up.

"Brand New Facility Opposite Balboa Park With Flexible Eating Hours"
It's completely new and opposite Balboa Park. The special thing about it is the "open eating hours". If the inside, the apartments, and the prices are fine, I'll give them a better review.

"Convenient Location with Flexible Dining Options"
This place wasn't our top choice, but it has dining anytime, which is nice. There are 84 units. Donna mentioned that it's good to check out because it's close to lots of shops and restaurants, and it's near Balboa Park, so the location is great.
