"Landlord Forces Removal of Fridges and Microwaves at Assisted Home"

Pleasant Hill Manor is now making us ditch our fridges. I've been here for 8 years, starting with the promise of learning how to live independently. Now, they're calling it assisted living and senior care. I've owned a fridge for over 8 years and now they're saying we can't have our own fridges. I also have a microwave. They want them gone, claiming they're hazardous and could start fires. I've had a microwave for 7 years and I've always been careful with it. I take great care of myself; I don't need any help. This morning, I was singled out by the owner who told me to give up my microwave and fridge. I stood up for myself, reminding her of my rights, but she simply said that I just rent a bed at the facility and she makes the rules. I told her I won't move and will sue her if she touches my stuff. She threatened to report my attitude, but I'm already complying with her rules - I unplugged my appliances. All the residents are against giving up our fridges. She reminded me thrice in two weeks that I merely rent a bed and she can do whatever she wants. I believe my rights extend beyond just the bed and she's intentionally targeting me. I argued that she's just a landlord, she can't just take away my stuff. Isn't it unfair for her to decide what I can or can't keep? She didn't even bother informing the other residents about the rule change. At times, it feels like she's picking fights. Today, I decided to stay in my room and keep to myself. Even though I've complied by unplugging my appliances, it really stings when she says I'm only renting a bed. I pay over $2200 a month to live at Pleasant Hill Manor. I'm pretty sure I'm renting more than just a bed.

"Cozy Assisted Living Near BART!"

They've got a shared room for ladies, and it looks pretty nice. Plus, it's super close to BART (just 1.5 miles away). They haven't mentioned any fees yet, but there are cafes, shops, and a movie theater nearby.

"Affordable Convalescent-Style Living"

The assisted living facility had a strong convalescent vibe. While I appreciated the full amenities, it wouldn't have suited my great aunt. The rooms were shared by two people, and having a private room seemed out of budget. Overall, it felt like a typical convalescent-style home.
