"Inconsistent staff, poor communication, and lack of proper care at Sunrise."
We had to leave because two staff members didn't tell us they dropped my mom. There were always different people taking care of her. They didn't use a safety belt for my mom unless we reminded them, something they should have communicated at the start. I often found myself waiting outside to get in, especially before work time in the mornings. They were frequently understaffed. I had to set up shower times because they didn't follow the schedule in her room. We moved her to another place that's far better than Sunrise. That said, the person who plans the activities is very nice.

"Highly Recommended Assisted Living!"
Our experience at Sunrise was really good overall, and I don’t regret it. Choosing a community for a family member is tough, but we had a positive time. I’d happily recommend Sunrise of Huntington Beach to a friend.

"Friendly Staff, Food Concerns"
Sunrise of Huntington Beach boasts friendly staff who promptly return calls and address residents by name. However, they could use more staff. The activity director offers diverse daily activities, but my mother’s main complaint is the food choices.

I didn't like this place much. It just didn't feel right. They did a good job explaining everything.

"Boutique Assisted Living with High-End Amenities"
This place feels really fancy and new. The common areas look like an expensive hotel rather than an elder care place. Since it's a small community, residents seem to get a lot of personal attention. There are many daily activities and special trips to enjoy. The rooms don't have direct outdoor access, so they feel more like hotel rooms than private homes. They have amazing dining and theater facilities on site. For active seniors, it seems worth paying a bit more for the better service. I did worry about extra charges, like $10 to have a meal delivered to a resident's room, though this was free during Covid. The residents were very happy and loved living there.

"Great place, but not for us"
I recently toured this community for my loved one, and I have no complaints. My parents were looking for a new place to live, and this place did a great job with the presentation. The staff answered all my questions in detail and took their time with our visit. I liked the open floor plan and how clean everything was. Overall, it was a great facility, but it just wasn't the right fit for us in the end.

"Helpful Staff"
I visited this community for my loved one, and I don't have any complaints. The staff arrived on time for our appointment and patiently answered all my questions. They had a fantastic floor plan with lots of helpful information about what they offer. Unfortunately, it wasn't the right location for us in the end.

"Mixed Feelings About Upscale Assisted Living Community"
This community is quite nice because everything is conveniently located in one building. The residents' apartments were on the second and third floors, and the activities were on the first floor. Unfortunately, there didn't seem to be any outdoor area where you could just sit and relax. The community itself was very nice, extremely clean, and beautifully decorated, feeling very fancy. The staff was super nice and helpful during the tour. However, we found that the pricing was too high for my in-laws' budget.

"Pleasant Community, but Expensive for In-Laws' Budget"
This place is really nice. Everything's in one building. The apartments for the residents were on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and the fun stuff was on the first floor. There wasn't any outdoor place to hang out though. The community was super nice, super clean, and looked fancy. The staff was really nice and helpful when we visited. But, it was too pricey for my in-laws.

"Bright and Airy Assisted Living Near Park - Great Value"
This assisted living place was the nicest of all I looked at. The rooms on the corners have turrets with lots of windows, so they feel really light and open. It's right next to a park, which they use for activities and summer meals. Each resident gets their own staff member to help them settle in. Unfortunately, I couldn't choose it because it costs more than my $9000 a month budget.

"Bright and airy assisted living near park with personal staff."
This place is the prettiest among all I checked out. The rooms in the corners have these tower-like parts with lots of windows, making it feel open and bright. It's right next to a park, and they do activities and summer meals there, which is nice. They even assign personal staff, which would have been great for my dad to get to know. Unfortunately, it's a bit too pricey for my budget of $9000 per month.

"My Friend Is Thriving"
My friend lives here, and I visit her every week. The staff goes above and beyond to care for each resident. They allow dogs, keep the rooms clean, and organize outings, like going to see a Theodore Roosevelt play. The meals are good, and when my friend isn't feeling well, they bring them to her room. She from A Place For Mom is fantastic; without her, we wouldn't have found this place.

"Comforting care and community feel eased our difficult time."
Sunrise was a great choice for our dad, who had health and memory problems. The staff was patient and supportive to both him and our family. He stayed there for four months until he passed away. It was comforting to know he was getting professional care and that the place focused on creating a community feeling, not just a hospital environment.

"Friendly Staff and Happy Residents"
My wife and I visited this assisted living community and we were pretty happy with everything we saw. The people who work here are really nice, and it looked like everyone living there was having a good time. The place is organized well and they’re doing a good job taking care of it. I’d tell anyone who’s thinking about assisted living to check this place out.

"Good Place for Family Members Needing Extra Care"
Overall, I was content with how they took care of everything here. Everyone who works here was pretty cool and super nice. You could tell they cleaned the place really well. One thing I liked was that they let her pick her own activities. Plus, they had a lot of tasty food to choose from. If you have a family member who needs help, you should definitely think about bringing them here.

"Not Happy: Messy Facility, Poor Communication, Underwhelmed Expectations"
Lots of stuff here let me down. They never call back, even when you leave tons of messages. The place doesn't shine, it's not dirty as such, but it sure could use more care. The garden was messy, with wires and smashed bulbs lying around. I've been so bummed out that I'm thinking about moving my family member. Considering what we pay, I figured the place would be better taken care of, but it feels like they're falling short of what they promise.

"**"Communication Could Improve!"**"
The staff didn't tell us when my loved one stopped taking her medicine. She had to go to the hospital because of this, but things are better now. She enjoys activities like reading and bingo with a friend at the community. The facility is lovely, and they take good care of her. The staff addresses our concerns, which gives us peace of mind.

"Top Choice If Not for Long Wait"
I found this community to be a great place for my wife. The staff are caring, the grounds are kept up, it smells nice, and everyone seemed happy. I didn’t notice any problems. There was a month-long waiting list, and we couldn't wait. If there had been no wait, we would have chosen this community.

"Concerned about staff, otherwise okay"
My uncle was only at Sunrise for a short time before he had to go to the hospital after a fall. I’m worried about the staff because they said he fell 10 minutes after going to bed. When they put him back in bed, he wasn’t complaining, but the next morning he was in pain. At the hospital, they found he had 8 broken ribs. I would not recommend this community because of the staff.

"Unsatisfactory Care and Refusal by Sunrise Facilities"
My 82-year-old family member with memory issues was walking, using the bathroom on her own, and eating by herself when she was admitted to Sunrise. After a week-long stay, she was transferred to a local senior mental health facility to modify her medicine due to a behavior problem. Towards the end of her hospital stay, I reached out to Sunrise to inquire about her improvement. The folks at Sunrise didn't monitor her progress, and two days before her discharge, they denied her readmission. Now, she depends on a wheelchair for mobility, has lost control of her bladder, and her hands tremble so badly that she needs help eating. I was refunded about a third of what I paid to Sunrise. The time, energy, and money invested in my elderly family member's brief stay at Sunrise led to severe negative outcomes.

"Amazing Care and Home-Like Atmosphere"
This place feels just like home. The staff is incredible and truly caring. They always smile and chat with the residents, just like friends. It’s not just the caregivers, but also the chef, facilities staff, and housekeepers. The facilities are fantastic—it smells like a hotel when you walk in. The environment is welcoming, making residents and their families feel right at home. The rooms are bright, spacious, and you can decorate them to feel special. My mom stayed here for only three weeks, but it felt longer because we enjoyed it so much. Everyone who visited said they would love to live there! I live far away and only visited on weekends, so it was important for me to know my mom was well cared for. If you can afford this level of care, it’s worth every penny and more.

"Great Care and Personal Attention at Sunrise Assisted Living"
My dad lived at Sunrise for 4 years, and it was a wonderful place for him. He was in assisted living with just 50 residents, so everyone knew him by name. Whenever the staff called me about anything, they always said, "Your dad is fine," which I really appreciated. They also provided hospice care at the end after he left the hospital. The nursing staff and care managers were excellent. Sarah worked with me for over a year to get my dad moved in, and she was fantastic. The Executive Director takes care of any issue, big or small, and Delia and the other front desk staff are great too. I highly recommend this place if you can afford it—it is a bit pricey.

"Wonderful care at Sunrise, but needs more wellness staff."
Sunrise is a lovely place that takes great care of its residents. Were very helpful during my tours. The Terrace Club Coordinator, is amazing, both skilled and very pleasant to work with. Terrace Club is a real blessing for finding care for people with high-functioning dementia like my aunt. Sunrise is one of the few places that offers just the right level of care between Assisted Living and full Reminiscence care. All the staff at Sunrise are very friendly and helpful. The only thing that could be better is having an extra person on the wellness team. While urgent needs are handled quickly, it can take a while to get responses for less urgent matters. Overall, I highly and enthusiastically recommend Sunrise of Huntington Beach! My aunt is very well cared for, and I'm very happy with the facility.

"Sunrise: Kind People, Lovely Grounds, Pricey but Worth It"
I really liked Sunrise. The folks there were super nice and caring. The food wasn't great; if it were a restaurant, I'd have sent it back every time. The community grounds and interior are beautiful. It's pricey, but you get what you pay for. The staff, in my opinion, deserves better pay for their wonderful work. They don't seem to have enough activities for active people, although they do organize day trips for lunch and other things. Plus, they allow pets. It's conveniently close to a shopping plaza where you can catch a bus to almost anywhere.
