"Underwhelming Response And Poor Hygiene At Assisted Living Facility"

Sadly, I have to write a bad review for the Ivy. Last month when I visited my Dad, I saw a rat scuttle under a couch near the entrance of building "B". Four days ago, Dad got Norovirus. This illness is passed when someone doesn't wash their hands - and he ended up in the hospital. I repeatedly asked for his room to be cleaned because I know this virus can stick around for two weeks, but I had to still fetch his stuff from there. They didn't clean it and they said they wouldn't unless it's the regular cleaning day (every Wednesday) or he was coming back. It's a letdown that they won't clean his room for the money he pays, especially when he's in the hospital because of an illness he got from their food. We were really happy with the Ivy before these incidents, but not anymore.

"Great caregivers and activities, more variety needed for independent residents."

They have a great team of caregivers who take good care of the residents. They offer activities and encourage everyone to join in. For those who can do things on their own, it would be nice to have more different activities. My loved one likes the food about half of the time.

"Friendly and Secure Assisted Living with Great Support and Comfort"

Sunrise of Seal Beach is a really friendly place where they quickly get to know everyone living there. They know my mom by name after just 2 months. She says they are quick to help if she gets lost in the building, and there’s always someone to help her find her way. They bring her medication and check on her 2-3 times a day, so there’s always someone keeping an eye out. I get an email once a week about what’s going on there, but I also visit often. They provide transportation for appointments, though they’re currently looking for a new driver for errands and other outings. My mom mentioned that the food was really good at first, but sometimes she doesn’t like the main entrée. She often forgets that there are other food options available, so I have to remind her. Her apartment is really nice and reminds me of the timeshares we used to stay in on vacation. It’s a 1-bedroom with a small kitchen, a walk-in shower, and separate areas for the living room and bedroom. She also has a smart TV that I set up for her. I would recommend Sunrise to others and appreciate that it’s close to me, so I can be there if she needs anything. The community is secure; I know she can’t just wander out. Someone is always watching the main entry door and will buzz you in when you visit. You need to wear a badge and sign in at the front desk. She currently has a little chihuahua with her, which is an added bonus. The place has lots of plants, flowers, and greenery, so it doesn’t feel sterile.

"Great Care and Friendly Staff"

I loved this community! They treated me like an adult while also taking great care of me. The tour was excellent, and they answered all my questions.

"Friendly Staff, But Not the Perfect Match for Family"

The people working there were really kind, but it just wasn’t the best place for the person I care about.

"Nice Community but Food Needs Improvement"

My mother isn't very picky about food, but she's having a hard time with it at this place. They have a lot of activities, but they're on lockdown right now because of COVID. If you're looking for a place, this is one of the nicest around, but it is expensive for what you get.

"Assisted Living Facility Review: Mixed Experience, Needs Improvement"

This place isn't great right now. There aren't enough staff. During a recent Covid lockdown, they forgot to feed everyone on the second floor one evening, and they couldn't leave. There's some chaos because of the staff shortage. We're not happy with them at the moment. Our loved one enjoys the food, but there haven't been activities during lockdowns, though there are more now. We've had issues with laundry service; they were supposed to wash clothes weekly, but they haven't been. Whenever I tried to find the head caregiver, she wasn't there. The Covid lockdowns have caused a lot of problems, and the staff is short. However, the place is clean, and everyone is nice. I have to call them often, and they're not good at following through. They try hard, but it's frustrating. We're paying a lot, and we're very involved to ensure everything's okay.
