"Great Care, Unclear Costs"

The staff is really great. Even the lowest-level caregivers provide excellent care. The on-site nursing staff is top-notch. The food is okay, maybe a bit less than expected for the price. The place is very clean. The only downside is the sales experience—they don’t give clear cost information. At Ivy Park, they leave it open-ended and say it could be [removed] per month. It’s hard to budget and compare. Also, the incontinence program is expensive. Overall, I’d recommend this facility to others.

"Large Facility, Hotel-like Atmosphere, Friendly Staff, Good Tour"

We visited Sunrise of Studio City while looking for care for our family member. The tour was nice, and our guide was kind. But, the place felt too big, almost like a hotel, not quite right for our loved one.

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living: Friendly Staff, Slow Service"

The staff at the assisted living facility are really nice, but sometimes it takes a long time to get help when you need it, like when you need to use the bathroom. They don't always communicate well either. The people who work there care about the residents, but I think they might need more staff to help them. Sometimes one of the staff members is a bit rough when they're helping the residents.

"Friendly Staff, Clean Community, and Pet-Friendly"

The staff and care were good. The caregivers were all very nice and knew what they were doing. The community was always clean and pleasant. They had a piano, which was lovely. The fitness program was great, and I joined in as much as I could. I liked that I could keep my dog with me and take him out to meet other residents who had pets.

"Friendly Atmosphere and Good Food, Needs Exercise Room and Pool"

The residents here are happy and friendly, the food is good, and the patios are really nice. It's a traditional place but it could use an exercise room and a swimming pool. Overall, it's a great choice.

"Very happy with Sunrise Studio City's care for mom"

Sunrise Studio City is the best place for my mom. Even though her dementia is getting worse, she stays active and functions pretty well. She moved from a regular assisted living apartment to the Reminiscence Program at Sunrise Studio City, where she gets great care from skilled nurses and caregivers who really understand her needs. We are very happy and satisfied with choosing Sunrise Studio City.

"Great fit, attentive staff, nice facility, good outdoor space, reasonable cost."

This place was the best fit for us. The staff was attentive, the facility was nice, the outdoor space was good, and the cost was reasonable.

"Friendly Atmosphere with Bright Rooms"

The atmosphere here feels great. The place seems a bit older, maybe like it used to be an apartment building. Everyone was friendly, and no one seemed unhappy. There are plenty of bright, airy rooms and the usual amenities to keep everyone busy.

"Top choice for socializing, but not for everyone"

I’d give Sunrise a 5-star rating. My mom might rate it lower because she wants to go home. She started out on the memory floor but has since moved to assisted living. She’s not too happy about being there and doesn’t join in activities much. I’ve shared a meal with her, and the food is really good. This place is one of the best in the Valley and is a great spot for socializing if your loved one is up for it.

"Caring for Loved Ones"

I visited this place, but it wasn’t what I wanted. The staff didn’t talk much like my mom hoped. They didn’t give me the info I needed, and I didn’t feel at ease here. Families should check it out for their loved ones’ care.

"Dream Community Out of Reach"

I really liked this place, but it's super popular, so we couldn't get my husband in. It's clean and nice, and it's closer to where we live. The people I met when I visited were really friendly.

"Disappointing Experience at Sunrise Assisted Living Facility"

My time started well, but promises broke after moving in. Doubts arose about parent care. Assessment cost too high for little done. Missed crucial questions. High hopes turned into low opinion.

"Disappointments Follow Initial Promises at Sunrise Assisted Living"

At first, I had high hopes when I decided to move my parents to Sunrise assisted living. They promised a lot, but didn't deliver on all of it, making me wonder if my parents' care would suffer. Plus, they overcharged for an assessment that hardly covered anything. Being a speech pathologist myself, I could tell they missed some really crucial questions about my parents' mental state and swallowing abilities. So, even though I was excited at first, I ended up really disappointed.

"Understaffed Memory Care and Hidden Costs at Sunrise Facility"

We moved my mom from a quite boring but comfortable care facility to Sunrise's Memory Care floor because they promised more activities, good staff, and so much more for mom to do. But not everything that seems great really is. Sunrise has too few staff for the number of guests. Can you believe it, only 5-6 caregivers for 35 people who have trouble remembering? The staff tried their best but it just wasn't enough to properly care for everyone. Many residents could not even eat their meals because they couldn't feed themselves and caregivers weren't around to help. Mom was left walking all by herself on her first night, even though she could easily fall and hurt herself. They even lost her clothes in the laundry. Their phone service was so bad - we got disconnected every time we tried to talk to someone. Asking any questions was useless because no one really knew anything and they just kept transferring the call to someone else. The first costs they tell you are nothing compared to the real expenses. They keep adding charge after charge for little things and soon, the bill gets too high. I wouldn't be surprised if they start charging for each piece of toilet paper. Maybe other parts of Sunrise are okay, but Memory Care was not good enough. Even with the staff doing their best, the guests did not get what they needed. They need twice the staff and someone in charge who can answer our questions. We moved Mom elsewhere after less than a month - a place with more fun things to do and more caregivers for fewer people. When thinking about moving your loved one to Sunrise, don't just see the pretty building and nice staff. Take a good look at how they are really taking care of the people who live there.

"Sunrise: Fancy Building, Yet Subpar Memory Care for Loved Ones."

My mom was moved to the memory care unit at Sunrise from a simpler, but boring Board and Care home because they promised better stimulation, a fantastic staff and plenty of activities to partake in. Sadly, things weren't as they seemed. The major issue I found in the memory care section of Sunrise was the low number of staff to resident ratio. Only about 5-6 caretakers to look after 35 individuals struggling with memory issues? Even the best staff wouldn't be able to provide the necessary care to that many residents. Residents who were unable to feed themselves would have their meals given and taken away, without even having a chance to eat. It felt eerily similar to meals during a flight in economy class. Mom, who is prone to falls, was left to her own devices the first night she was there. Also, her clothes were constantly disappearing in the laundry. The phone system too seems to be a big joke - more often than not, we were disconnected one or two times before talking to anyone. Furthermore, it felt like no one really knew what was going on, as we would be constantly transferred from one person to another. The initially quoted rate seemed reasonable but get ready for a shock when your bill arrives. They add on every little extra charge they can think of. I wouldn't be surprised next if there's a charge for each sheet of toilet paper you use. The conditions might be different in the Assisted Living section, but in Memory Care, it seems like the residents don't get the support and care they require. It's not a lack of effort from the staff, but they are simply understaffed. Ideally, the number of staff should be doubled and there should be a point person to deal with all the queries. We decided to move Mom to another Board and Care home after less than a month. This new place, though having more activities than the previous one, also provides a more personal care with 3-4 caregivers per 6 residents. If you are thinking about moving a loved one to Sunrise, please take this advice - don't make your decision based on the nice building and pleasant employees only. Visit the different floors and observe how the residents are actually treated that will give you a real sense of the place. Spend some time there before you make the final decision.

"Warm and Welcoming Assisted Living for Mom in Convenient Location"

Talked to a worker—super friendly. The assisted living place is in Coldwater south of 101, which makes it easier for my sister and brother-in-law to visit. It's great that 70% of the residents are Jewish, which Mom likes. But it's pricier—starting at $3900 a month for a studio. They do accept long-term care.

"Assisted Living Gets Neighbor's Approval"

My neighbor lives in this assisted living place, and it's pretty nice, although pricey. She needs help and uses a walker, and they take good care of her. My dad didn't need as much help, so he chose a cheaper option elsewhere. The place is a bit cramped compared to where my dad stays. I visit my neighbor often, but I've never tried their food. The staff is really nice, although I don't interact with them much. But my neighbor seems to adore them. Overall, she's happy there.

"Beautiful but Expensive"

The Sunrise assisted living facility is luxurious and beautiful, but it’s also very expensive. The staff members are pretty and new, and they’re very nice and friendly. However, I can’t help but feel that any place demanding a great deal of money from you will be nice to you. That part bugs me. Unfortunately, since I only toured the facility, I can’t recall the specifics of the activities, and I don’t have any firsthand experience with the care provided since my dad didn’t stay there.

"Nearby, Aged Facility. Less Appealing Residents and Rooms, Great Staff."

It's nearby and a bit aged. The people and places here aren't as good as at other locations, but the staff give a nice vibe.

I visited the facility and really liked it. Now I need to explore other locations.
