"Warm and Welcoming Assisted Living with Victorian Charm"
This assisted living facility is round and has a lovely Victorian style, surrounding a sunny garden courtyard. It sits on a hill just three blocks from the ocean. When you walk in, there's always a friendly receptionist near the door to greet you and answer the phone. The whole staff is friendly and ready to help; they'll assist you if you seem a bit lost or unsure. The food is excellent, served in a dining room that's always clean and filled with sunlight. The elevator is a bit slow, so you don't need to rush give yourself a few extra minutes coming or going.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
The assisted living place recently changed owners. They promised a bus but haven't delivered. There's no bookkeeper, and fixing billing mistakes is hard. Many staff leave quickly, and they don't check meds well. Emergency cords in rooms sometimes don't work. Prices went up in January, but nothing's better. The new chef's meals aren't liked much, lacking meat. The staff and managers are nice and trying hard. I want to like it, but I have to check often.

"Mixed Experience at Sunshine Villa"
The Sunshine Villa has a clean and friendly atmosphere. I deeply respect the staff who manage it. While it's a good option for many, it didn't meet my loved one's needs.

""Horrible experience at Sunshine Villa's memory care unit""
Sunshine Villa was simply horrendous. I wouldn't dream of sending my pet to their memory care sector. The upstairs may look decent, but their memory care is not up to par. It had the vibe and appearance of a funeral home.

"Charming Assisted Living with Top-notch Care and Social Activities"
The place feels like a fancy old hotel with beautiful, carpeted hallways and spots to sit by stunning ocean views. It's kept spotlessly clean. The menus are excellent, and there's a full schedule of activities every day, including local musicians and outside events. The staff are caring and friendly. My father, who didn’t want to leave his home, is now very happy. He has made friends and is more involved in life with a new social network. As his daughter, I’m thrilled he has a safe, comfortable, and joyful home in his final years.

"Top-Notch Assisted Living and Memory Care at Sunshine Villa"
My mom has been living at Sunshine Villa for several years, and she is doing great! My brother and I were hesitant to move her from her condo to assisted living, but it was the best decision we ever made for her care and happiness. From our first meeting with the staff, we felt like we had found a solution and were no longer in crisis mode. My mom had fallen while alone in her condo and fractured her lower back. While she was recovering, the staff assured us that Sunshine Villa would take great care of her. We couldn't be happier or more impressed by the level of care and professionalism at Sunshine Villa. When you walk into "the Villa," you are greeted by a wonderful receptionist who keeps an eye on who enters or leaves. You immediately notice the cozy fireplace in a library filled with antique chairs and countless books. Tea, coffee, lemonade, and snacks are always available. The dining room is nicely decorated and offers three hearty meals each day with a variety of choices. Residents can also order off a menu. The dining room servers are well-trained and polite—top-notch! There is a private dining room with antique furniture and china for families to use anytime for private gatherings. Beyond the library, there are lovely nooks and crannies to enjoy and a beautiful outdoor garden and sitting area. On the third floor is the nurse station. If mom ever has any medical issues, I can reach a medical staff member within minutes. A nurse will check on mom and promptly provide updates to me. A phone call from Sunshine Villa always starts with, "Kim, your mom is fine," which shows the professional training the entire staff receives. If your senior enjoys staying active, the activities coordinator provides a unique daily schedule of activities. A schedule is sent to the family each month so you can remind your loved one to join an event. Scenic drives, museum visits, luncheons, stretching, happy hours, art classes, and bingo are just a few of the many activities seniors can choose from. They even send a staff member to remind residents of an activity they planned to attend. Staff check on residents in their private living quarters throughout the day, which is another layer of assurance that our mom is well cared for. If you are looking for the best care for a family member, please consider Sunshine Villa. It provides a loving community in a safe environment that feels like home—bright and cheerful.

"Mixed feelings about deposit but overall impressed with facilities"
This place is really good at showing and explaining things, and it seems like a great spot for my friend. But she didn't like the $6000 deposit that you can't get back. It's a nice place for people who have a little extra money.

"Good Value and Activities, Some Room for Improvement"
Sunshine Villa is pretty good overall. It offers good value. Nana enjoys chair exercises and scenic tours. They do a great job involving her. One concern is they lost 2 black pants in the wash already. Housekeeping needs better organization. They could use different strategies for keeping up. Nana sometimes finds cafeteria service too slow. Besides that, she loves everything about this place.

"Good Value, Engaging Activities, Some Improvement Opportunities"
Sunshine Villa is pretty good overall. It's a good value. My Nana enjoys chair exercises and scenic tours. They're good at involving her. My only complaint is that Nana has lost two pairs of black pants in the wash, and housekeeping needs better organization. They could use different strategies to keep up. Sometimes, Nana finds the cafeteria service too slow. Besides that, she loves everything else about this place.

"Mom's comfortable but pricey; amenities unused despite encouragement."
Mom is living here and we are happy with her room and the services provided. However, it's too expensive for us. While Mom doesn't need all the extra things offered, even with gentle reminders, she isn't interested in using them.

"Good Services but Too Expensive for Us"
Mom lives here and we're happy with her room and the services. Sadly, it's too pricey for our budget. She doesn't need all the extra stuff and doesn't want to use them, even though we've gently encouraged her to try.

"Sunshine Villa: Mixed Bag of Care"
Sunshine Villa, where our mom stays, always seems short-staffed. New caregivers lack proper training due to high turnover. My mom constantly has to explain how things should be done. The rates keep going up, and their point system feels like nickel-and-diming. The food is subpar—no fresh fruits or veggies, just canned items. Staff responses are sugar-coated with no real solutions. We're actively seeking a better care facility.

"Unsatisfied with Sunshine Villa: They Overcharge, Underdeliver, and Make Excuses"
Sunshine Villa is totally a corporation. My mom is currently living there and she always mentions they don't have enough caregivers around. They obviously don't take the time to train the new ones well since the rate of people coming and going is pretty high - the newbies don't have a clue of the practices set by the old staff. This ends up with my mom having to repeat herself about what she needs done, time and time again. Also, Sunshine Villa is a total rip off. They increase their prices every year and to make things worse, they add up points all the time which leads to them milking more and more money from us every month. As for their food? Not great at all. Given the amount of cash my mom is dishing out, you'd expect to enjoy meals you'd get in a gourmet restaurant rather than what you'd find in a school cafeteria. I've never seen any fresh fruits or vegetables around - it's all tinned stuff. Whenever there's an issue and we try to address it with the staff, all we get are sugar-coated replies. They never provide valid answers but just beat around the bush with lame excuses. We're currently looking for a better place for my mom and will relocate her as soon as we find a more appropriate care facility.

At first, we had a tough time getting the medication schedule right because the move-in was so fast. But after that, everything seems to be going great.

"Amazing place with helpful staff and beautiful, clean rooms"
This place is amazing. The staff is super helpful, and the rooms and outside areas are beautiful and clean. It’s a bit too expensive for us, and they don’t have a memory care room yet, but we definitely want Mom here if we can afford it.

"Sunshine Villa: Affordable Care with a Warm Touch"
She is really good at what she does – she's quick, nice, and gives you a boost. She's the best person to meet first at Sunshine Villa. We wanted to go to Aegis in Aptos more than Sunshine Villa, but it was too expensive for us. But I think the people at Sunshine Villa care more about taking care of us than just making money. Sunshine Villa seemed a little sad, though. But we're happy to get to live there. The way they organize their kitchen staff is pretty cool too.

"Nice and clean, but too formal for some"
We visited this community while searching for care for a loved one. The place was clean and the staff were friendly. However, I didn’t think my loved one would be as comfortable here compared to other places we saw. It seemed a bit too formal, and besides a small courtyard, there weren’t many outdoor walking options.

"So far, so good!"
Everything here has been awesome so far! My loved one is really enjoying her time here! She hasn't complained once, which is a good sign! I couldn't have picked a better place for her. After being here for a while, she feels more like my mom than she has in years. The staff has been wonderful and they call me when needed. So far, so good!

"# 3. overall: Convenient Assisted Living with Diverse Activities"
Overall, this assisted living facility is conveniently located just a 4-minute drive from my house. Everyday visits are easy to manage. They offer aging in place and hospice services. During my lunchtime visit, the memory care unit seemed busy. There are plenty of nearby activities, including restaurants, music, and museums. Mom has more diversions available due to the downtown location. Although the staff is plentiful, they are less personable overall compared to Aegis of Aptos. Mom's dog can visit regularly, but the walking path is small. The outdoor area has a nice amount of sun and shade. The facility is built in the round, making it harder to get lost. Regular visiting health care is available, and the staff is transitioning from loud walkie talkies to quiet headsets for communication. Plus, the parking lot is always full. Additionally, they've developed a third option for those not quite ready for memory care but needing more help—a small social group with a supervisor. Some space is currently available.

"Avoid Sunshine Villa: Lack of Care and Support"
We were totally let down by Sunshine Villa. We took the step of moving my mom there. They had an interview process which seemed fine, and they placed her in assisted living even though she really needed memory care. But since they were out of space, they put her in assisted living and left her to fend for herself. They didn't even offer an alternative place! Their approach was cold and heartless. Plus, every time we tried to contact them to check on mom, no one picked up or returned our calls. Honestly, I advise everyone to steer clear of this place.'
