"Bad Management and Neglect at Assisted Living Facility"
The people in charge never fix problems, they just make excuses. Most of the time, the residents are stuck in bed or in hallways, sometimes without proper clothes on. There are hardly any activities to keep the residents busy or engaged. The facility smells bad because the residents aren't cleaned up regularly. This shows the staff might be lazy or they don't like their jobs. There's nearly no good communication. The people at the front desk are unfriendly. They need someone nicer and more understanding. The food's awful.

"Inconsistent Service at Assisted Living Facility"
The Alzheimer's section and facilities were great, but the office staff wasn't helpful. My dad has insurance that needs confirmation of residency monthly. We pay upfront, wait for reimbursement, but the facility charges $30 to process the form. I have to constantly remind them to send the form. The insurance company is unaware of this fee. Disappointing. Also, I have to double-check the bills to avoid overbilling for Hospice services.

"Exorbitant Fees and Unresponsive Office Staff at The Californian"
The Alzheimer ward's staff and facilities were fantastic, yet the administrative personnel were unhelpful. My father has private long-term care insurance which necessitates monthly verification of his continuing residency. An uncomplicated form is sent via fax to the insurance company each month before a reimbursement check is issued. It means my father pays almost twice his insurance coverage at the beginning of each month, and then we anticipate a partial reimbursement. Shockingly, The Californian levies a $30 monthly fee to "handle this paperwork". EVERY SINGLE MONTH, I had to persuade the office manager to send the required form for our reimbursement. Worse yet, the insurance company's representatives have NEVER ENCOUNTERED SUCH A FEE! Absolutely disgruntling. I've also needed to supervise the monthly invoices to prevent them from charging for services already covered under Hospice.

"Great Place for Loved Ones!"
My mom stayed here for a short time, and I was really happy with how things went. The food was amazing, and they did a great job with the dining room. The staff were always so kind, and I felt good about the care she got. Most importantly, she loved it and was happy to be there. I would highly recommend it to anyone interested.

"Disturbed by Negligent Care in Assisted Living Facility"
My mom experienced anxiety episodes for three straight days before I was notified they didn't have her prescribed drugs that arrived with her from the hospital. They had a doctor's list but didn't seem to see fit to give it a proper look for those three days! I, myself, had to rush to the drugstore to fetch them. I pointed out to the top health professional on Friday that I believed my mom had a urinary tract infection and she assured me they'd send a request to the doctor asking for permission for a urine test. But Sunday rolls around and I call and they're cluelessly fumbling around, unable to find any trace of the request or notes in her file. Communication is awful between alternating work shifts, and they just don't seem equipped to handle medical cases. When my mom needed to be repositioned in her bed, I watched as two girls began to tug at my mom's arms. Knowing she's on blood thinners, I voiced my concern and asked if their approach was the usual standard. They informed me typically they use a pad for this task and I insisted they fetch one. The girl who went to retrieve it huffed and puffed, making her annoyance clear as she departed the room. This is definitely not an environment I'd choose for my mom's caretaking.

"Subpar Treatment and Communication at Elderly Care Facility"
My mom experienced fear-filled episodes over three days, yet they only bothered to inform me they hadn't received her meds from the hospital upon her arrival. Though equipped with the doctor's list, they ignored it for 72 hours! I was forced to dash to the local drugstore. On Friday, I expressed concern to the head medic, suspecting my mom had a UTI. She promised they'd request the doctor's permission to do a urine test. When I followed up on Sunday, the medical team was clueless about the situation—no fax, no notes in my mom’s file. The poor shift communication and inadequate medical competency is unacceptable. Once, when mom needed to be moved in her bed, I noticed two aides about to pull on her arms. I reminded them mom is on blood thinners and suggested a different method. They reluctantly agreed, leaving the room with loud sighs of annoyance. This is not a suitable environment for my mom's care.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
We visited this place, and I’m not sure if it was just that day, but the smell when we walked in was awful. It cost a lot, and you couldn’t prepare your own meals there. The rooms were also quite tiny. However, the staff was very friendly; it might suit someone else.

"Didn't Suit Us, But Might Work for Others"
During our visit, we immediately noticed an unpleasant odor. The costs were hefty, and personal cooking wasn't allowed. Plus, the room sizes left much to be desired. However, despite these factors, the staff was incredibly friendly. While it didn't suit us, it might work for others.

"Good care but lacks medical staff and activity variety"
I’m very happy with this facility but have a few concerns. There’s no medical staff on-site, which would make it better. My mother is in the memory care unit, where they have daily activities, but they could offer more variety. I’ve also had a problem with housekeeping using toilet bluing, even after asking them not to. Monitoring the color of my mother’s urine is crucial for detecting UTIs, which are common in elderly women. I visit every day, and my father does too, so we have a good understanding of what’s happening there.

"Good Facility, but Needs Medical Staff and Better Communication"
I’m very happy I chose this facility with a few notes. It would be better if they had at least one medical care person on staff, as they don’t have any. My mother is in the memory care unit, and they do have activities every day. However, I think these activities could be a bit more varied. One issue I've had is that even after asking housekeeping not to put bluing in the toilet, they keep doing it. Given my mother’s illness, it’s important to monitor her urine color to watch for UTIs, which are common in elderly women. I visit every day, and my father is there daily too, so we have a good understanding of what’s going on.

"Senior Community Disappointment: Lackluster Living Conditions and Unskilled Staff"
My mom's not happy there. They call themselves a senior community, but it's really just assisted living. She's 81 and way more active than the other folks there. They mostly sit around in wheelchairs, not very talkative. She's got complaints about the food and staff response time, but I can't confirm those since I'm not there. The people running the place don't seem to have the right skills for working with seniors. She's so unhappy, we're arguing about her moving back home.

"Evaluating Californian Assisted Living: Unhappy Senior Seeks Home Return"
My mom doesn't like it at The Californian. They say they're a Senior Community, but it's really more of an Assisted Living Home. It's tough for my mom because during the day most people are just in wheelchairs and not really talking to each other. My 81-year-old mom is more on the go than that. She's also mentioned other problems with the food and how long it takes for help to come. I can't really say much on that since I'm not there. I do feel though that the people in charge aren't up to the standard I think they should be for dealing with aging folks. She's so upset that we're now arguing about her moving back home.

"Affordable Assisted Living with Community Feel; Some Extra Charges"
The cost depends on what you need. They charge extra for cable TV and laundry service, but it's not too much. Meals are okay, activities are nice, and it's a friendly place. Just remember, they don't offer skilled nursing. Overall, it's a good value, especially if you know people there.

"Inattentive Staff, Basic Care, Not Worth the Savings"
The place isn't abusive, but when my mom needed help, no one responded to her cowbell. I had to call for assistance every time. It's cheaper than other options, but if they don't help when needed, it's not worth it. If your parent doesn't need much care, it might be okay because it's cheaper. But I think the staff only work for a paycheck; they do the bare minimum.

"Low Cost, Poor Response from Facility Staff"
There's no maltreatment, but I've noticed that my mom's requests for aid often go unanswered. She would sound her bell, but no one would respond. I found myself having to alert them to aid her. Yes, it's a bit cheaper compared to others, but in my opinion, it feels worthless when the assistance she needs isn't provided, regardless of the cost. If your loved one doesn't require much attention or continuous care, this place might be a good fit since you're paying less. My impression is that the staff there are only there for their salary. They barely perform their tasks to the bare minimum.
