"Convenient Location and Friendly Atmosphere"
A friend asked us about the assisted living facility. The residents are friendly and seem to enjoy living there. We chose this place because it's close by and had an open spot right away.

"Avila Assisted Living Facility Review"
Avila assisted living in San Luis Obispo has faced challenges recently, including changes in ownership. Some residents and families have been unhappy, but improvements are underway. I was glad to finally visit the campus—it's beautiful, though renovations are causing some noise. Staff turnover has been an issue, but they've hired a new cook, and meals now offer better choices with fewer heavy carbs. One concern was how they handled my aunt's bipolar episode; initially, they couldn't manage it and called my sister to take her home. After discovering she had a UTI, she ended up stabilized at UCLA Medical Center. We drove a long way to discuss improvements with the nurse and new director, who were unaware of local mental health resources. Now they know, and we have a plan in place if similar situations arise.

"New Management Brings Changes to Assisted Living Community"
The assisted living community had new management, so it wasn't as organized as other places. Some rooms were being renovated, but the ones I saw that weren't renovated were okay. It also wasn't as pet friendly as I would have liked.

"A warning about money-hungry, dishonest assisted living facility"
I think the people that run this place are selfish and they trick you. They just want to get lots of money. There have been times where I've had to sit and wait for 45 minutes for my breakfast. When I left, they still had $1350 of my money and even though they said they would give it back, they haven't yet. There are way better places for folks like us in San Luis Obispo. Now I'm in a different place and I'm a lot happier. Make sure you look into this place before you decide to live here. It was a mistake for me.

"Top-Notch Care and Kindness"
It's tough to pick just one staff member for exceptional service because everyone here is great. My mom has lived here and she gets excellent care. We feel like this place is even better than home, and the staff are professional, caring, kind, and helpful.

"Decent Place, Food Could Improve"
I picked Avila because it’s in a great spot for walking to nearby places. The apartments come in different sizes; mine is a small one with just a room, a bathroom, and a little kitchen area. To be honest, I’m not a big fan of the food here. A few dishes are alright, but I’ve only had one meal that was really tasty since I moved in. They give us chicken a lot, so we don’t get much variety. But every week, there’s a fun happy hour, and they offer simple activities like bingo and puzzles. I do wonder about the people in charge though. A company from San Diego runs the show, and they have to approve any changes. But all in all, I’d say it’s a good place to live.

"Great place and owner, but too pricey for me right now."
I really love this place and [name], the owner. It’s just too expensive for me right now, I guess.

"Beautiful and Busy Facility, Best with a Quiet Apartment"
The facility is very pretty and looks like a fancy hotel. It's big with busy and noisy common rooms, but the dining areas and bistro are nice. The garden is lovely too. A private one-bedroom apartment in a quieter area on the 1st or 2nd floor would be best for Mom. We didn't check out the custodial care services, but the size of the place seemed to overwhelm her. Also, Mom got the flu that evening, so she was actually sick during the tour, which probably affected how she felt about the place.

Just so you know, Mom got a bad flu that evening, so she was actually sick during the tour, which probably affected how she felt about it.

"Bringing joy and safety to our loved ones!"
I've seen a 95-year-old grumpy woman become happy and enjoy life again with friends. Her laughter and smile are back, thanks to the staff and facility. She doesn't stay in her room anymore. She's always out doing yoga, crafts, horse races, tea parties, ice cream socials, bridge, and more. The staff's special attention to dining makes residents feel extra special too! Way to go, Manse! Thank you for making our parents feel welcome and giving us a safe and secure environment!

"Gracious and Kind Staff"
The staff is super helpful. Maybe they could improve communication a bit. There was a change in cooks, which took some time to get used to. But overall, the staff is really gracious and kind.

"Couldn't Ask for Anything Better"
The caregivers and wellness staff are awesome, and the servers are super friendly. The Manse is doing a fantastic job. I couldn't ask for anything better. The staff are always happy, have great ideas, and I love them like my own grandkids.

"Beautiful Location, But Too Expensive"
It's a nice place, but it costs too much. When my dad visited, he wasn't too thrilled. It's in downtown San Luis Obispo, so you can walk to most places. The main reason we decided against it was the high cost.

"Struggled with memory issues, inconsistent care in upscale environment"
I think they couldn't handle her memory problems because it's been getting worse. She stayed there for 3 years, but her condition worsened, and her behavior wasn't steady. When she got upset, they didn't really help her, and it seemed like they didn't know how to. It looked like a fancy hotel, but I think it's more for people who can mostly take care of themselves, just with some help available. They have nurses all day and night, but as she got worse, we didn't think it was the best place for her.
