"Great Assisted Living Choice!"
It looked like the right place for him because of where it is and what they offer. People say good things about it compared to other similar places. Plus, it fit our budget.

"Dishonest Staff Member Reschedules Meeting Without Notice"
I'd highly suggest making sure you have your meeting scheduled in writing and double-checking it before you get there. This one person, who I won't name, is really not trustworthy at all. She might seem nice at the start, but her real tendencies soon come out. Our family had set up a meeting with her and she tried to back out a few days before. She did say that she made an error and that she'd fix it. However, then she calls on the day of the meeting and says that we missed it because she rescheduled it earlier without telling us. She waved it off as the company's fault and said "sorry I had to move things around to help others" in a snippy way. You shouldn't ignore all these warning signs and dishonest actions right from the get-go.

"Mixed Feelings about Assisted Living Facility"
I believe most of the staff genuinely care. It's important to ask department leaders questions, not just the salesperson, to ensure expectations are met. They offer unexpected services like a rehab program led by an excellent woman. Consider asking about staff-to-patient ratios; 5-7 residents per staff in memory care may be too many. They excel in assisted living but need more staff for memory care. They aim to provide great care but lack sufficient staff. People are friendly; food looks good, activities reduced due to Covid.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living During Pandemic"
All my ratings are based on our experience during the pandemic. The staff has been friendly and helpful to residents and families. However, the food isn’t as good as they claimed, and there were box lunches due to COVID. On the positive side, they handle COVID outbreaks well, and the community is welcoming. Our loved one appreciated the social atmosphere and the location close to friends. Vaccination efforts provided peace of mind, but activities are currently limited.

"Fantastic Assisted Living with Caring Staff and Modern Comforts"

"Nice community with good care, clean facilities, and activities."
I’m glad we found this community for my uncle, who is in memory care here. The caregivers are very nice and responsive. The community is clean and well-maintained outside. The food could be better. They have daily activities like crafts, music, and church services. The staff communicates well with me, even though I’m out of state. I would recommend this place.

"My Uncle is Happy Here"
I’m glad we found this community for my uncle. He’s in the memory care here, and it’s great. The caregivers are very nice and responsive. The community is really clean and well-kept outside. The food could use a little improvement. There are daily activities like crafts, music, and church services, and they encourage everyone to join in. The staff communicates with me so well since I’m out of state. I would recommend this place.

"Disappointing Memory Care at The Point at Rockridge's 'Generations'"
The Point at Rockridge has a relatively new memory care unit named 'Generations'. When you call, they'll make you listen to a speech that is, frankly, full of untruths. They promise one-on-one programs, but all they do is herd residents around in groups during the day and play the same movies over and over after dinner. They claim to offer spiritual care, but I didn't see any. The caregivers they do have are underpaid and not well trained. Most of them don't show respect for the residents either. In my experience, some of them appear downright disinterested. There were times when my mom didn't have a real conversation with any staff for days on end. The meals they serve are usually not tasty, and the other menu options they promise are rarely available. The food often arrives cold because it has traveled so far from the kitchen. They won't even allow residents to have seconds. More than once, my mom had her personal items taken and never returned. Kirsten, the director of the facility, seems more worried about the place's image than the actual residents. If you have any issues, don't expect her to help. She’s very nice until your relative moves in, then it's like she's a different person. The main living area is okay, but the 'Generations' area lack the perks like made-to-order omelets, a variety of sweets, or the optional mimosas. Even though these residents pay high fees, they're treated as second-rate. If you decide to move your loved one there, be ready to visit often, at varying times. Be prepared to keep a close eye on how they are treated and cared for.

"An Adequate Look at Assisted Living in a Prime Location"
This place is nicely located near public transit, offering 120 rooms, regular cleaning, and bed sheet changes. The facility has a spacious area for dining. They serve meals along with snacks at any time, and the food selection changes. Every 6 weeks you can look forward to a Sunday banquet paired with champagne. The quality of entertainment is just okay, but they do offer various activities and outings. For the most part, the individuals here are friendly.

"Excellent Senior Care Residence in North Oakland Area"
This place rocks for seniors! They really cater to older folks and don't treat them like kids. You can easily get extra help if you need it. Food's getting better, but could be even more awesome. It's like the heart of the seniors' day!

"Avoid this Facility: Poor Care, Disinterested Management"
This place isn't great. The management doesn't seem to care about the employees or the people living there. They only seem interested in making money and getting as many people to move in as possible, regardless of whether or not they can provide good care. They have a really high turnover rate. The residents don't seem to be cared for well. I wouldn't suggest anyone send their loved ones here. There are people in the memory care unit that don't even have memory issues, they just have nowhere else to go because of behavior problems.

"Mediocre Operation of Assisted Living Facility in Oakland, CA"
This place isn't run well. They don't have enough folks to fix things, drive folks around, or help in the dining room. They do have fun activities though. It seems like the helpers aren't taught properly. It feels like they care more about looking good than taking care of the people who live there.

"I'd Recommend The Point at Rockridge"
They keep the place really clean. The staff could improve a bit—some are friendly, but others aren't as outgoing. There's a bit of turnover. My mom has no complaints; she says they're nice and talk to her. We had some issues at first, but they've shown they can fix things and address concerns well. Mom loves the dining experience. I'd recommend The Point at Rockridge—it's beautiful with a great view.

"Great apartment, friendly staff, but transportation needs improvement"
We really liked the apartment's size and the nice view of the bay from the big outdoor balcony. The lobby and dining room feel fancy, like an elegant cruise ship. The residents and staff are very friendly. The food is okay, but it could use more seasoning; it can be a bit bland and starchy. However, it’s fresh and edible. My loved one is getting stronger and gaining weight as the doctor wanted. There are a lot of activities, though my loved one isn’t interested in all of them yet. She enjoys the current events class and is trying other things. The only issue is with the transportation. They have a town car for appointments, but it doesn’t wait for you. Your family has to meet you, or you have to call and wait after you’re done. This can be a hassle for short appointments like a ten-minute blood test

"The Point at Rockridge Exceeds Expectations"
I moved my mother into The Point at Rockridge, and I'm really impressed with the new management and executive director, Kirsten. As a doctor, I needed to find the best place for my mom, and this place is great. The staff is well-trained and prepared. I was worried about the management change, but it seems to have improved things. I've talked to other seniors who lived here before with different owners, and their experiences were not good. Kirsten works hard every day to keep her team motivated and to ensure the residents get excellent care. Unlike many big companies that are all about money and break promises, The Point at Rockridge truly focuses on the residents. This is the best community in Oakland, especially compared to larger companies like Sunrise and Brookdale.

"Mostly terrific"
My 93-year-old mother stayed at The Point at Rockridge while I had to be in California. She normally stays in assisted living near me in Massachusetts. Best things about Rockridge: Everyone on staff was super friendly and attentive. The staff is a hardworking, terrific group. Great location, close to everything in Oakland and next to a shopping center. The food was decent. The parking garage made it easy to visit and take my mom out. They had good movie choices, and my mom enjoyed the outdoor patio. I liked the exercise facilities. Things that weren’t perfect: The building was made for independent living, not assisted, so it needs some upgrades. Since they were still in the "start up" phase when we stayed, the staff seemed overwhelmed at times. The rooms and hallways felt like motel rooms—small and boxy, not very welcoming. Like any place, it's what you make of it. It takes time to get to know the residents and feel at home.

"Nice Place But Lacks Support for Dementia Patients"
The Point at Rockridge Looks Nice, But Not For Dementia Patients" This is a really nice place. It's pretty, but it didn't work out for our family member. They took care of basic needs okay, but they didn't seem ready to handle folks with dementia. At first, we were excited about The Point at Rockridge. The old Director of the Generations Floor, He called me a few times saying our relative was difficult. I'm not sure the current Generations Floor staff know how to handle stubborn, difficult patients with dementia. And when I've spoken to several different staff, they've often been new on the job, so there seems to be a lot of employee turnover. That's not really good for our family member. Also, all of the staff are women. Once, he asked my husband and me to come and try to get our relative to behave. Apparently, he wouldn't let anyone help him or get close. Maybe because the GENERATIONS UNIT is newer, the staff isn't fully trained for dementia patients. They definitely struggled with our family member. When I asked about Sunday activities, a worker said, "Tea and Cookies," for an hour or more. Our family member mostly just stays in his room and watches TV. They only have one TV channel - 5. When we toured the place, I only saw a model of what would be his room. Honestly, I wasn't impressed.

"Overall, a Combination of Highs and Lows"
The staff at this assisted living facility sometimes treat seniors like they aren't intelligent, especially during some activities, even though these elders are sharper than the staff in many ways. A few of the laundry machines weren't functional. Some of the meals aren't really that healthy--once they served super greasy pizza and ribs that were basically all fat. Transporting residents seems to be an issue too, with only one car and one van available, and usually with only one driver on duty. I came to know that one of the drivers was moved to a desk job as she was driving with an expired license. There was an infectious GI bug that went around last year when the facility was still owned by Monarch, which led to all activities getting cancelled for a month. On the brighter side, the residents are truly lovely, and every now and then they do serve a decent meal with alternatives if the main dish isn't appealing. They also now offer a solid brain workout class. The apartments are spacious, well-lit and there's a handyman on-site for any repairs. The housecleaning service is done thoroughly each week. They also arrange remarkable trips to Oakland As games and performances at the San Francisco Symphony.

"Great activities and flexible food service make mom happy."
My mom is very happy there. Everything is going great so far. She's only been there for two months. The staff is wonderful—kind, patient, and trustworthy. I think the food is good, and it's available anytime she needs it. She doesn’t have to wait for set meal times and can get what she wants whenever she wants, which I really appreciate. There are many activities, and she’s involved in a lot of them. She’s been to movies, done exercises, played dominos, worked on crossword puzzles, attended discussions, and even went to an A's game. I'm very pleased.

This is a lovely place, and it seems to be well-run. However, the culture here might be a little too activist and liberal for him, considering his background as a former firefighter and Vietnam veteran.

"Susan made our visit fantastic! Great location, thoughtful staff."
We met with Susan. She was amazing! My mom really liked how well she understood this field and was grateful for her kindness. The place looked really nice, it was well designed. It had a big dining area and overall great space. I think it could be a good option, especially since it's in a great location near Piedmont street and not too far from Berkeley. The huge fishtank was awesome, and the activity areas were pleasant. The top floor common space had a fantastic view. Definitely one to consider.

"Assisted Living Charm: Friendly Staff, Renovation Shine, Cost Consideration"
This place is amazing! The people who work here are super nice. But, they don't specifically help with diabetes. And, the nurse I talked to wasn't too eager to chat. Good thing the dialysis spot is close by. It might get pricey though, especially if you need outside nurses. I love the valet parking for residents, and the dining area is like something out of a movie! They recently did a big $6 million renovation, and it shows.
