"Better options available in Santa Barbara. Avoid VDM."
My mom stayed at VDM in 2017 for a year. We had to move her out because of many issues. Staff changed a lot, they didn't handle her medicine well, and they didn't communicate with us. There were also termites and the food wasn't good. VDM is just one of many places owned by Front Porch, a company that cares more about money than old people. They won't even bother to respond to this bad review because they don't really care. Don't send your loved one there; find somewhere else.

"Struggling Assisted Living Facility Needs More Consistent Care"
My mom moved from independent living to assisted living. I can only visit a few times a year, and each time, there are many unmet needs. I hardly hear from them unless it's a medical emergency or if I keep calling. You can only contact the health clinic; you can't talk directly to the caregivers. It seems like they've had a lot of staff changes lately, and not for the better. Now they seem to be operating with very few staff members. It was great when my mom could do activities on her own, but now that she needs more help, it feels like nobody is making sure she gets the care she needs. I want to move her closer to me, but that would be too hard for her right now. This place might be okay if you can check in often or hire someone to do it for you. But for what they charge, you shouldn't have to do that.

"Inadequate Attention Despite High Costs."
My mom started off in an independent apartment at this assisted living facility, before she had to shift to assisted living. My visits are limited to a few times a year, and each time I notice my mom has needs that aren't being attended to. I'm rarely updated about her condition unless it’s a medical emergency or unless I persistently call to get details. Unfortunately, the health clinic is the only contact available, not the caregivers directly. It seems like there's high staff turnover, and not for the better. It feels like they're now operating on a shoestring. When my mom was independent, this place was fantastic due to the numerous activities. However, now that she requires more assistance, it's evident that they aren't up to scratch. If I could, I would shift her closer to me, but it would just add more stress to her current condition. This facility could work if you're able to frequently drop by or hire a care provider to ensure everything's fine every week. Considering how much they charge, you shouldn't need to do that.

"Expensive Assisted Living Option"
Vista Del Monte is nice, but they didn't have openings for independent living when we looked. Later, when my dad needed more care, we considered it again, but it's very expensive.

"Nice Place"
Vista Del Monte is a nice place. When we were searching, they didn’t have any spots for independent living. Later, when my dad needed more care, we considered it again, but it’s quite pricey.

"All Levels of Care"
They are really good, but a bit pricey. My parents picked this place years ago. First, they went to independent living, then assisted living, and finally my dad went to skilled nursing. We liked that they offer all three levels of care. They do a good job keeping up with residents' needs. Sometimes my mom is unhappy with the food, but it’s tough to please everyone. A few staff members could use more training with seniors, but most are great. It’s probably the same at any facility—no one has perfect staff. Skilled nursing might only be a 4, as it sometimes took a while to get what my dad needed, whether it was responding to his call button or getting a doctor to see him.
