Applewood Place, A Juniper Senior Living Community

"Privacy Concerns Impact Choice of Assisted Living"
I visited this place, and it looked almost the same as another nearby spot. Overall, it was a top choice. But our tour guide bothered me. She showed us empty ‘model’ rooms and also current residents’ rooms. That felt unprofessional and invaded privacy. Asking her questions was tough because she talked nonstop. We ended up choosing a different community.

"Absolutely Deplorable Assisted Living Facility Conditions Revealed"
This place is the last place you'd want your beloved family members to be. The facility is gross. The personal spaces of the residents aren't maintained. People's laundry often gets lost or mistaken for someone else's. The pricing does not justify the terrible quality of the meals, likely due to management hiring unfit employees who don't grasp their jobs. Your family will not receive proper care, especially those needing memory care. They let your family members get hurt, even allowing fights amongst residents, and they don't inform families afterward. There have been incidents of staff theft from resident rooms. Updates about your loved one's situation are virtually nonexistent from management. They often incorrectly take care of medication orders, resulting in wrong medicine being given or no medication being given at all. The staff raises their voices at residents and management doesn't bother checking in on their status or personal welfare. They do the very least they can until your relative is thin and neglected to the point of being unrecognizable. There are barely any activities happening.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Cleanliness and Family Visits Valued"
Overall, we're pretty happy with this place. When I've given them suggestions for how they could improve care for memory care residents, they haven't really made changes. But they do a good job keeping things clean. I appreciate that they try to let visitors come, even though the pandemic has made it hard. There have been some outbreaks, but they haven't stopped visitors. I think that's really important, because it's terrible for residents when they can't see their families. We had a few problems at first. In the memory care unit, they have 20 residents and 2-3 staff to take care of them. The staff used to take breaks at the same time and act unprofessionally. I talked to the director, and things have gotten better. But I still think they shouldn't have so much downtime since there's always something to do for the residents.

"Dated Facility with Poor Service, Dishonesty and Inferior Meals"
This facility is in disarray. When you go in, it's hard to find someone stationed at the front desk ready to help visitors or residents. The people who should be providing care aren't good at their jobs. They prefer passing out meal trays in residents' rooms instead of helping residents get to the dining room. This place looks old and worn-out. The food is just pre-packaged stuff, lifted from outdated menus. It's cheap and shows they don't make an effort to feed residents decent meals. They don't seem to think much about memory care. The person in charge of promotion will say anything to get you in the door, but what they promise isn't what you get.

"Concerns Over Care at Assisted Living Facility"
I sometimes visit my friend who lives at this place. She’s not doing well lately—she’s gotten thinner, always seems tired, and can’t walk anymore. She used to be strong enough to walk on her own, but now she needs a wheelchair. Her room isn’t clean either; there’s dust, stains on the carpet, and a bad smell. The saddest part is, her wedding rings were stolen and replaced with a fake one. She’s supposed to look after her own stuff like soap and shampoo, but they keep disappearing. The building looks nice, but they don’t have enough people working there, so the residents aren’t getting the help they need. Some workers seem happy and work hard, probably the ones they hired because they’re short on staff. But others just seem lazy, always on their phones and not caring. I’ve seen some just walking around, waiting for their workday to end.

"Loved the cozy atmosphere, but lacked independent living options for us"

"Disappointing Care and Unfulfilled Promises at Juniper's Facility"
Our family member's health has worsened at Juniper's. This place seems to be badly run, and they overlook basic needs for the elderly like securing the brake on their wheelchair after bringing them back to their room. Also, letting them go unchecked from the end of dinner to bedtime can be a threat for some old folks. These issues continue to persist even after we've voiced our concerns for months. Frequent emergency room visits have become the norm due to injuries. Cleaning issues such as removing bloodstains, handling 'accidents' on the carpet and dealing with a leaking toilet or a soaked floor can take days or even weeks to fix, despite numerous requests. They promised that we could choose anything from the menu, but it's been exasperating as they often run out of multiple items at the same time. At Atria, another facility, they used to leave out fruits and cookies after dinner, not here at Juniper. It's disheartening to see the decline since Juniper took over. At times, it seems like some of their inexperienced and unsupervised staff mocks and disrespects the residents. And it's no surprise that most of the best caregivers has left.

"Declining Care and Safety Concerns at Applewood JUNIPER"
This place was once a reliable senior care home under Atria's management. However, Juniper has since taken over and, in my view, the quality of service has greatly plummeted. While they seemed supportive during the registration process, their attentiveness disappeared as time passed. For instance, we had a toilet leak that lasted for over three weeks. We were the ones constantly cleaning the water off the floor to prevent a slipping hazard. The carpets were often left in an unsanitary condition due to accidents and a facility-wide flu outbreak. Despite numerous requests over weeks, all we ever got were excuses that they're waiting for ordered parts. Isn't there something like Home Depot for such needs? What about safety? How about controlling germs? There were also times when medications did not arrive because the responsible person had left for the day. Some bandages could not be changed because there was no nurse present even though bleeding was evident. My loved one fell and was simply directed to stay put where they fell. The second fall could have been avoided if only the staff ensured that the walker was within reach or asked if assistant was required. If your loved one needs help but is unable to press their call button due to high fever, diarrhea or due to a fall, I'd highly advise against choosing Applewood JUNIPER. I tried understanding that managing a senior care home can be challenging and that problems can arise during management transitions. However, my patience has worn thin as more and more basic senior care needs are overlooked. I'm now convinced that the management of this facility is substandard.

"Beautiful facility with friendly staff, but high prices"
I toured this place while searching for a home for my mother. I really loved it, and it’s well organized. The marketing director who showed me around was friendly and outgoing. She knew a lot, and I enjoyed the tour. However, we decided not to choose this community because it was more expensive than other places and came unfurnished.

"Great care for my mom"
My mom has dementia and a personality disorder. The staff treat her well and with respect. They are patient with her even when I can't be. Mom loves the people who care for her. She's been there since summer 2016. Mom often says she wishes we knew about this place when we had to place my dad years ago. Yes, there have been issues, but no one is perfect, and they always listen and try to fix any problems.

"Great option for independent seniors, not ideal for heavy aid needs"
The place is neat and pretty, with most of the folks working there being nice, except for the nurses. It's a good home if you're taking care of someone who doesn't need much help. But if you're dealing with dementia or have to aid with physical stuff like bathing or handling falls, you're better off with their care unit for memory problems. There's not much patience in the assisted living section for those dealing with dementia or physical challenges.

"Satisfactory Care but Room for Improvement in Meal Service"
Mostly, I'm satisfied with the care my mom receives. She gets her insulin shots regularly and Tracy left a good impression by showing me around on her day off. The facility is tidy and there are numerous activities that my mom can engage in; she's a fan of the bridge club. The price is becoming more affordable as she requires less care. Still, my mom often complains about the delay in getting her lunch and having her meal order taken. The service could certainly be quicker.

"Disappointed at Atria Park, Jack's Place saves the day"
Our stay at Atria Park was a terrible experience. We weren't even there for a week before they gave us a 30-day eviction notice because my husband wasn't cooperating. Now, I'm happy to say he's in a much better place called Jack's Place. It's a small, cozy group home with a really understanding staff. They're great at handling Alzheimer's patients. I'm grateful for how things turned out in the end.

"A wonderful place for mom!"
I am very impressed with the staff at Atria Applewood. Everyone is kind and gentle with the residents and their families. My mother lives in the memory care side, and they are great with her. The place is so clean that you could eat off the floor! The only thing I don’t like is the food. My husband and I had Thanksgiving dinner with my mom today, and the only thing good was the salad. Otherwise, I couldn’t be happier knowing that Mom is in a wonderful place with amazing people taking care of her.

"Atria Applewood: Good care with room for improvement"
Overall, Atria Applewood is doing a pretty good job. My aunts have a couple of complaints. They would like the staff to respond faster when she needs to go to the bathroom, since she needs to go quite often. This makes it hard for her to move around comfortably. She wishes there were more staff available to help with this. Also, there has been some confusion about breakfast orders. The residents often say they can’t get hot coffee; it’s always cold. While it is a bit expensive, they do provide 24-hour care. Overall, it’s a nice place, and I’m happy with how things are going.
