"Poor Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
We chose this community initially because of the friendly staff, nursing care, and their acceptance of smokers. Everything seemed fine, but we didn’t realize there was a new executive director (ED) in charge. Unfortunately, there have been many changes: high staff turnover, terrible food, not enough staff, and no response to our calls or messages. They haven’t taken good care of my mom, which is very disappointing. I wouldn’t recommend this place unless they fix these issues.

"Disappointing Assisted Living Experience at Brookdale Broadmoor"
Brookdale Broadmoor isn't a good choice for anyone I care about. It wasn't clean and looked old. During the tour, the guide showed us a spot where patients sat near a fireplace. They pointed out a small refrigerator, calling it a snack bar, but it only had an old cheese sandwich inside. Overall, we really didn't like it there.

"Unprofessional Staff and Poor Atmosphere at Brookdale Broadmoor"
I wouldn't suggest Brookdale Broadmoor to anyone. I didn't even finish the tour because of how I was treated. I was waiting for our scheduled appointment when the lady called me. She said she'd be late because she still had laundry to do, needed to finish her hair, and had to stop for gas. This, even though I was already there. I felt it was really unprofessional. Plus, I usually trust my gut when I step into a place, and sadly, this place didn't give me a good feeling at all.

"Mixed Feelings at Brookdale Broadmoor"
We visited Brookdale Broadmoor, and it looked nice. The person who guided us was friendly. However, there weren't many residents or staff around, so interaction was limited. It didn't feel the same as another facility.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short on Care and Refunds"
Our family faced challenges with our loved one's care. They stayed briefly, but we weren't refunded. I think they didn't get proper care. The community was hesitant about transferring or readmitting them. The memory care unit didn't have enough staff for all residents. We were asked to hire extra help for our loved one.

"Delayed Prescription Service Risks Resident Health"
This assisted living place takes forever to give out medicines! They even do that with important stuff like antibiotics. If there's no one to put it in their system, the folks living here could be waiting around for days! This not only makes sick people sicker, but it also puts everyone else they talk to in danger!

"A Clean Facility with Drawbacks"
We visited the assisted living facility, which also has a memory care community. The place was clean and the staff we met were friendly. They provided pricing for each suite style, all located on one floor. However, the facility wasn’t secured until around nine at night, and residents could sign out and leave as they pleased. The cost of the suites was high, even with VA assistance. The main downside: it’s a 30 to 40-minute drive from the south end of town, making it inconvenient for family visits.

"Extraordinary staff, delicious food, and attentive care."
I want to express my gratitude to the director. She is always available to talk and often visits the Memory Care building to give hugs and check on each resident. She is extraordinary. The chefs are fabulous, and the food is delicious and well-presented. The soups should win an award. Every meal is so good—I know because I sometimes eat with my husband, so I speak from experience. I appreciate how they go the extra mile to offer something everyone will like. Housekeeping does a great job keeping my husband's room clean and responds quickly if there's an accident. I love how the staff quickly learn residents' names and connect with them as their stay continues. I feel very comfortable having my loved one there.

"Amazing Care and Activities for Mom!"
Brookdale Broadmoor has been excellent. My mom is getting great care, and they’re really helping her a lot. The staff has been wonderful, and my mom loves the food. The place is very clean and well-kept. They also have many activities like live music, movies, and games. It’s not the cheapest option, but it has everything my mom needs, so I believe it’s worth it.

"Needed More than Niceness: Care Missed the Mark"
My family member briefly lived in this care home, but we had to move him out because they weren't able to meet his needs as promised during our initial move-in discussion. I ended up having to employ a night nurse to make sure he was alright during the night since they couldn't attend to that. They also failed to monitor his daily medication, which was a big concern. The staff were nice though, but overall, it just didn't end up being the best choice for us.

"Subpar Service and Overpriced Memory Care"
Ridiculously overpriced with terrible memory care services. The staff are indifferently untuned to the needs of their residents, not to mention excessively loud, and are not respectful towards visiting family members. They lack good communication skills. There is an abundance of other establishments in Colorado Springs that outshine this place, so I highly recommend checking them out. A word of caution: they are known to observe family members covertly without involving them much in any activities or decisions. This facility is truly subpar.

"Horribly slow service at Brookdale Broadmoore!"
I'd say giving Broadmoore Brookdale even a single star is kind. The biggest issue when my mom stayed there was their terrible communication. They seriously need to step it up! It took two and a half months just to mend my mom's door lock so she could feel safe sleeping at night. I wish we could have gotten my mom out of that place way sooner.

"Grandma Unhappy: Poor Staff Interaction and Bad Communication."
My family member just isn't happy at this place; she tells me all the time that the people working there aren't friendly. They don't encourage her to spend time with the other residents or check in on her enough. She's part of the memory care program, so she often forgets to go to all their activities without some reminders. Communication is the toughest struggle for us. I can't reach anyone when I call and they won't call me back! I can't tell you how many messages I've left that were supposed to be returned months ago, but still haven't been. It really hasn't been a positive experience.

"Needed Improvement at Brookdale Broadmoor"
I moved my wife into Brookdale Broadmoor and while she was only there for a little bit, we ran into some problems. Multiple times, my wife's clothes got dirty and from what I saw, it didn't seem like they took great care of her. The folks at the place were nice, but it's basically their job to be nice to people. When it really mattered -- when they had to actually take care of her -- I think they should have been better. On top of that, we had some troubles talking with the staff. It wasn't all bad, but they need to get better at a few things.

"Mixed feelings on Emeritus care, lacking in some key areas."
My wife didn't like Emeritus; it was very different from her old place in Iowa. They missed a few things that mattered to us. First, they didn't have a call button residents could wear to ask for help whenever they needed it. Also, there weren't enough staff around when someone needed help, so sometimes we had to go find them ourselves. This was a big problem because it meant residents didn't know when they'd get help. Sometimes, help didn't come until a family member found someone to assist. The staff were nice and caring, especially when my wife passed away. However, some of the staff who gave out medications seemed stressed and not so friendly. For example, when my wife needed a pain pill, she'd sometimes get ignored or told to wait until a certain time, even if she was in pain. The way they served food was okay, and the food was usually good. But when my wife wanted to eat in her room, it didn't always go smoothly. They didn't always bring everything she needed, like silverware or dessert. I asked for a table for her, and they gave us one, but I think it should've been standard for everyone eating in their room. The day after my wife died, I went to get her things from Emeritus. A resident who had been nice to my wife asked about her. When I told her my wife had passed away, she was really upset because no one had told her or the other residents. She went back to her room crying instead of going to lunch. I think they should've told everyone quickly when someone passes away, especially since elderly people might have a hard time with that news. The head nurse was helpful and got us an interview with hospice. She knew a lot and was good at her job. The nurse who gave my wife her medications during the day was also skilled and never let her stress show.

We loved them! I would give the staff a 7 out of 5 if I could. They keep the place really clean and worked great with us. They offered more activities than just bingo, which was nice. The food is about a 4 out of 5. Overall, they've been absolutely fantastic, even helping us with the VA paperwork. Since moving in, he’s doing much better and has even gained weight. "A great choice for a picky loved one!"
Here’s the rewritten review: "When looking for a place for our mom, she was very picky, and we tried to meet her needs. The issue was that she was never satisfied and always found something wrong. We visited about four other places, but she complained about all of them. Although those places had their issues, we weren't happy with them. Since coming to Emeritus at the Broadmoor, our mom has had a much better experience. Even though she still complains, she seems much happier here than anywhere else. Some days are still tough, but the staff keeps us updated if any problems come up. Overall, we are very pleased with the staff, the care, and the services she receives. The staff who handle her are like saints! Thank you so much!

"Good Community, Still Perfecting"
I’d say this place is pretty good overall. They’re working out a few small problems. When I visit, she’s taken care of really well by most folks there. I’d tell others to think about this spot for their loved ones, but like all places for older folks, you need to keep an eye out. It’s sad some people are alone; they deserve attention too. Staying on top of things is key. We’re pleased and plan to keep her here.
