"Smooth Transition at Assisted Living"
Everything’s fine. Even after the ownership change shortly after moving in, everything’s smooth. I’d recommend this place.

"Unhappy with MorningStar's care and notice handling"
I really didn't like MorningStar. I had to complain to HHS about them twice, and I'd tell anyone not to leave their loved ones there. The care was bad and I didn't like how they managed giving a 30-day warning.

"Assisted Living Falls Short on Promises"
This place isn't meeting expectations. They're often short-staffed. I expected better care for my loved one in memory care. The staff is friendly, but they need more training to provide the care needed.

"Friendly Staff, Room Care Needs Improvement"
The community is a good size, and I appreciate that. The staff gets to know our family, and they’re easy to talk to. But sometimes, talking doesn’t lead to action. Overall, it’s a nice place for loved ones. However, they could do better with hygiene and room cleanliness for residents. There’s been some staff turnover lately, but they’re working on hiring more people to improve things.

"Impressive Location and Spacious Apartments, Food Needs Improvement"
We picked MorningStar because of the location, and we liked the place after we visited. The two-bedroom apartments are big and comfy. The rooms in the memory care area are a bit small, but they encourage residents to stay active outside their rooms. My dad often complains about the food, saying it lacks flavor, so they could make it better. Overall, I'd suggest it to others who are searching.

"MorningStar of Boulder: Nice but Distant"
During the virtual tour, MorningStar of Boulder looked really nice. It was just farther away than I preferred.

"MorningStar: More Interested in Selling Rooms than Senior Care"
My mom stayed at MorningStar for almost two years. At first, everything seemed good, but over time, it was clear that the staff didn't provide the necessary care for older folks — especially those with memory problems. We tried many times to work things out with all levels of management, but it was clear that the whole administration at MorningStar just didn't get it. In the end, it seemed like MorningStar cared more about selling rooms than taking care of the elderly.

"Great Staff and Welcoming Atmosphere at MorningStar"
I really love the staff. They are all very kind and tell me how much they care about my family member, even though she can be difficult with her dementia. Now that Covid restrictions have eased, I visit her and she doesn't like to just sit, so we walk around the halls and say hi to lots of people. The staff lets me do that, and they talk to me. It's been a good experience, and I really love visiting her there. They communicate very well. I feel like it's a good value. I see the staff working so hard. They have a lot to do and their hands are full. I just wish there was more one-on-one care and more staff to help out. I think that's just how memory care units are in general. But MorningStar does a great job.

"Neglectful and Poor Management at Morning Star of Boulder"
I would like to caution others researching Morning Star of Boulder that my family member went without a shower for nearly a month while there, and I was not informed of the circumstance. She suffered severe medical complications from an untreated urinary tract infection that led to sepsis. In the following year, she was diagnosed with five more urinary track infections. This place, under the stern guidance of an unscrupulous executive director, coerced families into moving their older relatives into a memory care setting. Over the course of six weeks, they manipulated seven families with their circuitous tactics to pivot the assisted living facility towards greater independence. This was done to meet their goals rather than cater to the needs of the residents. It also raised eyebrows that they consistently shuffled their management team in the memory care and assisted living sections. They've had three to four changes in a span of just two and half years. From the time they opened their doors, the facility has repeatedly fallen short in its management and overall governance. Morning Star invests heavily in creating an impression of luxury with its hotel-like ambiance and generous living quarters. They are seemingly more interested in showcasing the place than providing actual care. The facades they showcase are meant to impress, but the reality underneath is disappointingly bleak. During the course of our stay, we noticed multiple instances of staff shortage. The caregivers are overworked and fear retaliation if they voice concerns. The middle management grapples to accomplish duties under the oppressive direction of the current executive director. One year, for a brief period, we had a commendable executive director who was genuinely considerate of the residents' needs. She was forced out by the corporate bosses due to her focus on care over business. The current executive director seems to prioritize her career and figures over the concerns and needs of the residents. I am also aware of other families who've had horrific experiences and breaches in state regulations. The institution once used illegal and inappropriate equipment and failed in training their staff satisfactorily. On several nights, I observed minimal staffing, with only two to three staff members to attend to the needs of over a hundred residents. Unless a relative encounters a health crisis, you might remain unaware of these serious concerns. But when a situation arises, one can experience neglect and misuse of authority, not just as isolated incidents but as a pervasive issue. Consequently, after nearly three years, we decided to leave this facility in the Fall of 2019 and managed to find a better place for our loved one. I strongly advise potential seekers to thoroughly research before making a decision and advise against being swayed by their sales rhetoric.

"Disappointing Food at Otherwise Stellar MorningStar Boulder Assisted Living"
It's a real bummer, but the food at MorningStar Boulder stinks! My mom, she's been living at MorningStar Boulder since May 2019, and she really likes it - her apartment, the activities, and sure does appreciate the super attentive and kind staff. Everything's top-notch, a perfect 5 stars. So why only one star? The FOOD HAS GONE DOWNHILL in the past few months. Maybe this one-star review will push MorningStar to improve their game, and most importantly, help the old folks and memory impaired residents who are getting stuck with not-so-great food. I mean, my sister and I have brought this up with, the boss man, and the new(ish) chef like 5 or 6 times. And yeah, they hear us out and kinda agree, but the food hasn't gotten any better. Here's the deal: ONE: The food is not great. It's too much fried stuff, overdone veggies, and stuff that just comes out of the freezer and into the oven. Just not good enough. TWO: More often than not, the food is cold because of poor delivery. Food's gotta be served HOT to keep folks from getting sick. THREE: And sometimes, the meals are tossed on the plate without thinking. Like: a) Sloppy sandwiches served with runny coleslaw on the same plate. Yuck! b) Really tough steak or chicken. This really gets me because a lot of the folks there have trouble cutting their food. FOUR: It's a sad sight seeing old and memory impaired folks complaining about their food. Eating should be fun - but not at MorningStar. I've sat with them through many a meal, watching these vulnerable folks chowing down on sub-par food. Don't get me wrong, I don't enjoy ragging on MorningStar cause the caretakers, activity planners, reception, cleaning, and nursing staff rock. Like I said, all 5 stars. If you have someone at MorningStar, get in touch. I'm interested in hearing about your experience.
