"Good care, room for improvement in personal touch and family involvement."
The location is nice, and it's a larger, lively community. The care is good, but could be more personal. They could encourage my dad more and include family events. Overall, we're satisfied with this community.

"Assisted Living Disappointments"
I was really let down after living at Brookdale for a while. What they promised in their ads didn't match up with reality. The staff keeps changing a lot, so sometimes the services are good, but other times they're not. The food is terrible and they keep changing what they say about it. They mess up billing a lot because the sales and administration people don't talk to the finance team. They took money from my account by mistake and still haven't given it back, even though it's been more than 30 days. I'd suggest trying the food before you decide to live here and don't let them take money straight from your bank.

"Exhausting Experience with Assisted Living Facility's Management Shakedown"
In 2019, we stumbled upon this place which was under different management. My mom was offered a place in the independent living section - a basic apartment, not too flashy, with some activities and a nice surroundings. Back then, we had a conversation about my mom's slight loss of memory and how we could gradually increase her level of care when needed. We were assured my mom could remain here as she aged and required more support, all affordably priced according to her needs. However now, for reasons that are unclear to us, the new manager is trying to get more money from us. We received an email last night at 8pm, stating that my mom needed to leave or they would call protective services. This is if we don't also pay for a pricey 24/7 caregiver from their approved list by midday today. Yet, my mom has not ever wandered off, she's not at risk of getting lost, and she can use the bathroom and bathe independently. There is so much more to say about this facility and its management that's been a problem over the past year or two, but there's not enough room in this review. Please, don't choose this place!

"Active Seniors, Big Building, Overwhelming at Times"
I think this place has a lively bunch of seniors that would keep my family member active and engaged. It's cool that they have a full kitchen to use—it makes them feel like they're on their own, even if they've only used it once and don't plan to use it again. The only thing is, the building's pretty huge and it can feel like a lot sometimes.

"Beware of Brookdale: Rising Fees and Confusing Contracts"
There's no limit on how much your monthly fees can increase. We know someone whose fees went up by 13% in just a month. And if you decide you've had enough and want to leave, they require a 30 day warning. The contracts they have you sign don't make any sense. The management will tell you something verbally but then won't stick to it. It seems like they make their contracts confusing on purpose to trick those who may not understand legal documents. My advice is to stay away from any Brookdale facilities.

"Serene Setting and Spacious Apartments at Brookdale Gables Farmington"
Brookdale Gables Farmington is an older facility with basic amenities compared to others nearby. Despite this, it offers spacious apartments at a good price. Situated in a serene location away from busy roads, it's also close to stores.

"Brookdale Gables: A Beautiful Assisted Living Choice"
The staff is really friendly, but they seem stressed because they’re often short-staffed. Housekeeping isn’t great—they only do the basics. For example, they don’t dust properly, and vacuuming is limited to the middle of the rooms. They never move chairs to clean underneath. They’re supposed to wash and change sheets and do laundry weekly, but overall, they do a decent job. I live in the Assisted Living area, so I’m not sure about Independent Living. They allow pets, which is great for my pup. Communication with families is excellent—they’re notified right away if there’s a fall or concern. Meals are good, but breakfast and lunch options get repetitive. They should offer healthier choices like whole grain bread and yogurt with fruit. Dinner is better, and they try to accommodate residents’ requests. The dining room overlooking the water and the beautiful 400-acre property with paved paths around the pond make a big difference. They even set up tables with umbrellas on the patio during nice weather, and the geese and ducks add some entertainment. I recommend Brookdale Gables—I’ve toured other places, and they can’t match what Brookdale Gables offers.

My brother and mom said Brookdale Gables Farmington wasn't cozy. Mom felt better elsewhere.

"Assisted Living Gem with Great Staff and Comfortable Amenities"
We picked this place because it lets you stay as you get older, has a big kitchen, nice rooms, and delicious food. When we arrived, we found all of this and really caring staff too.

"Dining declined, staff need training, loved it before COVID."
I moved here 3 years ago and loved it! Since COVID, things changed. The dining experience declined, food's not healthy. Staff need more training.

"Kind Staff, But New Hires Need Better Training"
I’ve lived at Brookdale as an IL Resident for six years. The staff used to be very experienced and took good care of us. However, some of the new hires don’t seem to be well-trained, which makes the residents feel down. The phone desk isn’t always staffed by someone who knows what they’re doing. On the plus side, they took good care of us during the pandemic. I often tell new residents, “This is a good place to live,” and I really mean it.

"Good care and beautiful grounds despite staffing issues"
Brookdale Gables is getting a new management team and, like many places, has some staffing problems. Still, I’m impressed with how dedicated the management is to the residents and their experience. The facility itself is older but well kept. The grounds are amazing and unmatched.

"Assisted Living: Not the Best Fit for Mom"
Beautiful grounds and spacious apartments. But after visiting two facilities, I've come to realize that assisted living might not be the best choice for my mom.

We really like this community. The staff is friendly and caring. The meals are tasty, and we're happy with the care and activities for the residents. This place has a nice, country-like feel, which is exactly what we wanted. The staff goes out of their way to be helpful. We would recommend this community for its great value and care to other families.

"Happy Residents!"
I was happy to see all the residents were cheerful and seemed to enjoy each other's company in the dining room during our tour. The property had beautiful scenery outside and was very clean inside. I have no complaints about this facility and would definitely recommend it to anyone.

"My Mother Feels Safe and Happy Here"
My mom is really happy here. I'm glad about the care she's getting. The place looks nice and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. They have fun activities, but I wish they encouraged her more to join in. She likes the food, and the meals are good. I know she's safe and well taken care of. Everything is going well, and I would recommend this place.

"Nice Spot, But Exhausting Due to its Massive Size"
We checked out this place when searching for senior care for someone dear to us. It was nice, but in all honesty, it was too grand in size. If we chose this place, her room would have been a long walk from the dining area, which resulted in tiredness even before having her meal. The long walk throughout the place left her worn out just from the tour!

"My Experience for My Mom"
My mom is 85 years old and was diagnosed earlier this year with mild cognitive impairment, paranoid symptoms, and possible dementia. She also has osteoporosis and mild vision problems. Before, she was living in a multi-floor townhouse condo without any senior safety features. My husband and I started looking at assisted living places in our area this summer because my mom was in denial about needing support. We noticed she probably wasn't eating regularly, and I discovered that the expiration dates on the food in her refrigerator were from 1995 (things like jams and mustard). We toured The Gables and six other places in Mom fell in love with The Gables, and so did I. The apartments are modern, clean, and in great condition. If anything's wrong, you can call the front desk, and they'll send maintenance to fix it. Mom even tried their "B-Fit" exercise class and loved it! She signed up that day and moved in just five days later. The Gables staff has been incredibly supportive during this tough transition for my mom. They provide an escort to meals for the first three days after moving in, which comforted her. They also have an ambassador for the first two weeks, although I'm not exactly sure what that person does. I believe it's a resident who helps newcomers feel welcome and at home.

"Lacking Amenities, But Convenient Van Service; Pleasant Common Spaces"
This place has really nice public areas, which are great for hanging out or meeting friends. However, I was kinda bummed that the apartments don't have hookups for washers and dryers. It would've been super convenient to do laundry right in my own place. Also, there's no pool on site, which would've been fun, and they don't have regular lectures like they do at some other places. On the bright side, they do have a van service that can take you to important places like the doctor's office, accountant, or lawyer in Bristol. So, it's not all bad!

"Mixed Feelings: Great Facility, but Smoking Policy Needs Improvement"
I've been there twice and spoke with the president. I think it's a great place overall, except for the smoking. My mom smokes and has to go outside. I find it contradictory for them to promote elder care assistance with all the health services, like aging in place, but then make smokers go outside, especially in winter. It's not what they advertise. It's essentially a non-smoking place, yet they attract smokers...

"Mom and Stepdad Love It!"
It's a bit pricey, but it's really nice and worth it. My mom and stepdad are tight on money, so it would be great if it weren't so expensive. Still, there are pricier places out there, and everything is great here. The assisted living has an a la carte system, so you only pay for what you need. So far, they haven't needed anything, thankfully, but it's nice to know it's available. They have a chorus, which they joined, and they've taken some rides to different restaurants. I can't say enough about it. Every meal feels special with linens on the tables, and the food is amazing! On their first Sunday, they had a choice of filet mignon or stuffed sole. They're eating better than we are! My stepdad has Alzheimer's, and they said he might be a bit off for the first few weeks. But he was smiling and whistling from day one! He loves it there, and they're both really happy.

"Beautiful Building with Great Amenities"
The building is very attractive with nice decorations. I had a lovely one-bedroom apartment that was sunny and overlooked the entrance. The setting by the lake is beautiful. There are many activities to do, and they have an on-site clinic with a doctor who visits once a week and a podiatrist. You can also get extra care if needed.
