"Caring Staff and Great Apartments!"
Brookdale South Windsor has a really nice team of caring staff. The apartments for residents are great, especially in their memory care area. Based on our experience, we’d recommend this community to other families.

"Not Suitable for Residents Needing Increased Care and Assistance"
This place is good for someone who can move around a lot and likes to keep busy with fun activities. But, if their health gets worse and they need more help, this facility can't handle it. Despite them saying so, there's no nurse there at night, so they can't take care of people in hospice. Plus, it's really pricey. I even hired an extra helper from another company to lend a hand, but got calls about the staff not getting along. The extra helper from the second company wasn't the best, even though Brookdale had recommended them. My dad was only there about a month and had to go to the hospital twice, so it was really expensive for such a short stay. The staff were nice though, especially the lady at the front desk who went out of her way to help. But overall, I wouldn't suggest this place for someone who's used to living by themselves. Your best bet is to hire a full-time helper who can live in their home, if you can.

"Communication Gap Causes Difficulty in Service Coordination"
I think it's important to keep everyone informed. Sometimes they promise to do things, but you need outside help to make it work, and then it gets complicated. It's not the community's fault, but if you know your loved one will need extra help, the way they talk to the people who handle day-to-day stuff versus the ones who sell you on it is very different. We did eventually sort everything out.

"Mixed Feedback on Assisted Living Facility"
This place is good if your family doesn't need extra nursing. It's great for those who can get around easily and enjoy outings. However, it's challenging for wheelchair users due to accessibility issues like sinks and cabinets. Activities like bingo are repetitive. Most staff are hardworking and phenomenal.

"Mixed Experience at Brookdale South Windsor"
I visited four places before deciding on Brookdale South Windsor. They offered us a good price, and my mom got one of the largest and nicest rooms there. However, they added extra charges for small things, so the total cost was more than we expected at first. They did have a lot of activities for the residents, which was nice. Overall, it was a decent place, and I would tell others to consider it if they're searching for a place like this.

"Decent Visit, Lacking Activities"
I don't have any problems with our visit to this place with my loved one. The staff were punctual for our appointment and they showed us all the cool apartments they had. The layout of the place was good, and they had lots of nice things for the residents to use. I just felt like their activity program wasn't as good as some other places.

"A caring and clean community!"
The staff and aids are great because they are caring and visit my mom a lot. Some of the staff have been there for a long time. Mom seems to like the food. She has been joining in on some of the daily activities. The community looks clean. I suggest checking on your loved one during the adjustment period to make sure everything is going well.

""Not Quite Up To Par For Mom!""
Our experience there was just alright. It felt like the facility was a bit lesser compared to others. They didn't mention any activities and it seemed like they didn't have a lot to offer. In the end, this wasn't the right fit for our mom.

"Mixed Feelings on South Windsor Assisted Living Facility"
This place is beautiful and my mom moved here from Florida. They didn't tell us until after we signed that we needed a doctor from Connecticut to approve her move in. We just went to her Florida doctor but they wouldn't accept those forms. It took time to get a new appointment and it was really frustrating. I figured her room would be ready once we sent the paperwork but we had to wait longer. Now that she's there, though, everything's great. The staff is awesome. They offer lots of different services and mom can go to tons of activities if she wants. The food choices are also really nice.

"Immaculate and friendly assisted living, despite some staff changes."
I really like Emeritus at South Windsor. It's always clean and neat. The people who take care of us are nice and know what they're doing. Especially the therapy folks, they're great. Lately, there have been some new faces, and that has caused a few hiccups in the services. But overall, it's a good place, and I would suggest it to others.

"Uncertainty About Best Placement for Father"
I thought the place and rooms were good. But I'm just not that certain if my dad should be in the assisted living or memory care section. The assisted living layout might not work for him, but the memory care section seems a bit too much for his current condition.

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living Experience"
The workers are nice, and the place is tidy. But fixing stuff could be better. Sometimes they say they'll do things, but don't. Food's okay. It's easy to get around, but it's loud from all the cars. It costs a lot, but that's typical.

"Excellent Care and Vibrant Community"
They are doing a great job. Everything is going well, and we are happy with it. They have been very attentive and responsive. They didn't charge a second person fee, which was rare. I also liked the location because it's close enough to stores to walk. This was one of the only places where there were always people around and activities going on. The community feels lively when you walk in.

"Great place with friendly staff and good facilities!"
Everything has been great with Emeritus so far! The place is always clean and well-kept, and they really take care of their residents. I've mostly been involved with the memory care area, and I'm impressed with what I've seen. They recently updated this section and added a big central space where residents can hang out and socialize. The staff are also very friendly and do a great job getting everyone involved in activities.

"Loved this place; felt like family!"
I loved this place! From the minute you walk in, the staff and residents make you feel like family. The apartments are clean, and so are the grounds and common areas. It is really expensive, though, and sadly out of our budget.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short on Rapid Medical Adaptation"
We paid for a month, but my brother-in-law struggled to settle there. He only stayed a week. My main issue is how fast he declined; they couldn't adjust his meds quickly due to rules. So, we took him home. The staff were nice, but it didn't work out. It was our first choice, and he liked it, but they only had one room left, so we had to decide fast. It's suitable for people with dementia or other needs, but if conditions change rapidly, it might not be the best fit. They lack a night nurse; only tech aids are available, which makes quick decisions difficult if someone's health is deteriorating fast.

"Misleading Assurances at Emeritus Frustrate Family"
When my aunt and I first visited Emeritus, I had an honest conversation about her health conditions, particularly her frequent falls and sleep issues. The sales associates convinced me they could handle her situation effectively. So, we decided to trust them and moved her there. Unfortunately, her falling worsened and she ended up in the hospital after hitting her head. Next, the management got involved and suggested moving her to a cheaper room and hiring private 24-hour care for her. Strangely, they never found a cheaper room and she remained in the pricey memory care unit, which was nearly double the cost and made no sense to me. One redeeming aspect was a staff member there; she knew how to light up everyone's day, including my aunt's. Let's be clear, my issue is not with the staff but the facility management. They were fully aware of my aunt's propensity to fall, but did nothing to prevent it, citing legal restrictions on bed alarms and side rails.

"Friendly People, Communication Challenges"
My dad is adjusting well there, even though he didn't want to be there initially. That's a positive for them. However, there's a slight issue with communication from the caregivers. Maybe it's because it's still new to my dad since he hasn't been there for long. When you walk in the door, I really like the overall presentation. It's clean, and the staff is friendly. It wasn't what I expected from an assisted living place.

"Assisted Living: Lively, Clean, and Friendly"
At this assisted living facility, you'll find lively music in the lobby. The staff and residents are friendly, and everything is kept clean. During the day and evenings, there are six resident assistants available, while four cover the night shift. The community fee covers behind-the-scenes tasks like initial assessments, medication checks, and coordination with doctors. If you need to transfer to Springfield, they've got a plan for that. Cats are welcome, and there's plenty of indoor and outdoor sitting space. Residents drive the programs and activities, including daily exercises. Room doors are locked, and residents wear security bracelets. Staff check on residents during meals, and other visits can be arranged. Utilities, phone, and basic cable are included, with internet billed through Cox. They also have physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech therapy available, billed through insurance. The efficiency units are a bit small, but the one-bedroom option provides ample space. It comes with a small fridge, a two-person table, a safe bathroom with a built-in shower seat, and plenty of storage. Residents occupy the second and third floors, and there's a locked Alzheimer's unit. The location is convenient, near shopping plazas, restaurants, grocery stores, consignment shops, and a church. During the tour, the executive director asked about Mom's interests and background, as well as my concerns and goals for her.
