"Clean rooms, good food, frequent calls from staff; recommended facility."
I get lots of calls from the nurses. My loved one really enjoys the food, especially the ice cream! The cleaning seems good. Whenever I visit, which is often, his room and bathroom are tidy, and the trash gets taken out regularly. I think others would like this place too.

"They made my mom’s move super easy and manageable."
I knew the marketing person from my husband’s long-term care facility. She made my mom’s move super easy. The two activity directors were wonderful and caring. The nursing staff was helpful. My mom had been in assisted living for 12 years, living on her own, but she needed more help and it was expensive to pay for each service separately. Brookdale was close to her children and had all the other reasons I mentioned. They made a hard situation manageable.

"Mixed Feelings About Brookdale Assisted Living Facility"
I didn't like Brookdale much. It looked nice, but felt sad. Maybe most people there need lots of help. My aunt isn't quite ready for it yet.

"Friendly Staff and Convenient Location, Mixed Reviews on Food"
We picked Brookdale West Hartford because I knew the salesperson. We had to move fast, and they agreed to all our requests. Plus, it's in a good spot. The people who work there are really helpful. The sales team, nurses, activity director, CNAs - everyone. The only problem we had was with the food. My loved one was particular about what she ate, and her choices were limited without knowing beforehand. It might be okay for others, just not for her. I would recommend Brookdale to others for sure.

Our visit to Brookdale West Hartford was okay. It seemed like they didn’t have much assistance available. During our walk, I noticed only one woman distributing medications.

"Caring Community Fosters Connections for Loved Ones"
They take excellent care of my parents. The director promptly addresses our questions and concerns. Daily movies and happy hour bring joy to my parents. Social events and musicians enhance the community. My loved ones enjoy crafting, dining out, and making friends. This community keeps them close to their familiar area.

"Assisted Living Community Disappoints: Food, Activities, and Transportation Decline"
My family member stayed at this place for a year and a half. Things started to get worse. The food, rides, and things to do all got worse. They said they couldn't find a driver. My family member is really unhappy now, even though he was happy when he first moved in. Lately, when I visited him in the past two weeks, he complained about the food and not being able to leave his room. They deliver food to rooms now because of COVID. We can only visit by appointment, and we only get 30 minutes.

"Small, Affordable Assisted Living Keeps Residents Happy and Cared For"
The location was important for us. It's affordable and a smaller community, not too big where someone might feel overlooked. More activities would be nice. They're taking good care of my mom, and she's happy there.

"Poor Care and Unhealthy Food at Assisted Living Facility"
My mom stayed at this place for a year and a half, but she didn’t really get the care she needed. We were told she could have plain foods because of her health, but once we moved her in, they said they couldn't do it. They served a bunch of unhealthy stuff like bacon, sausage and thick gravies a lot. Also, the workers didn’t pay much attention when folks needed help to go to the restroom.

"Dad's Happy Here"
We are really happy with this community. They communicate well with our family and take great care of my dad. My dad used to only eat sandwiches, but now he eats everything—the food is great. There’s a nice courtyard to enjoy, and even though my dad doesn’t do many activities, they’re available when he wants to. The community is very clean too. I would recommend it to anyone. I give them 5 stars.

My mom has adjusted really well here. She enjoys all the activities, the fun field trips, and loves eating in the dining room and chatting with the other residents. The food is really good, and there's a nice variety on the menu. I also appreciate that they have nurses to help with her medications. I would definitely recommend this place—it's beautiful, and the staff truly care about the residents.

"Tour showed good staff and activities, but not what wanted"
We toured this community to find care for my husband. It wasn't exactly what we were looking for because it's in a city setting. The staff was friendly, and the menu looked good. They had nice activities for the residents who wanted to join. We would recommend this community to other families.

"Great staff, food looks good, Mom prefers home."
I moved my mom into Brookdale recently, but she's having a tough time adjusting. She really wants to go back home, which is hard for both of us. The staff has been super nice and caring, doing their best to help her feel comfortable. The food always smells and looks great when I visit. I wish it could work out better, but Mom just wants to be at home. I definitely recommend Brookdale!

"Nice Place, Overall"
I believe Brookdale of West Hartford is a very pleasant place. The facility looks beautiful, it's super clean, and the staff takes excellent care of the residents. However, they could improve the sign-up and onboarding process. There have been some issues with my loved one's long-term insurance provider, and it feels like there's always a new form I haven't filled out.

"Caring Staff Ensured a Smooth Transition for My Loved One"
Brookdale of West Hartford is a beautiful place. The nurses and attendants are very caring and attentive. The move from a local rehab to Brookdale was a bit tough at first because we had to figure out special needs. But the whole staff worked hard to make the right changes. Anything important takes some time.

Our experience with Brookdale Place has been very good. They were really helpful during the selection and move-in process. They introduced themselves to Mom and brought all the staff around to greet her, making sure she felt at home. They also had the right staff available to answer any questions we had about the process, which I really appreciated.

"Happy with Brookdale so far; great staff and activities!"
My mom has only been at Brookdale for a little over a month, so I can't give a full review yet. But so far, I'm happy with the services and the place. The staff is friendly and caring. My mom feels safe and comfortable, even though she misses being with family. The food is good, and there are plenty of activities.

"Good For Mom, Dad Adjusting"
My parents are in a weird situation. My dad's fine, but my mom has Alzheimer's. They live together in memory care. Dad's also getting chemo, while Mom sleeps a lot. He didn't want to leave Mom, so he moved in there. The facility treats my mom well—they're really helpful. I've seen how they take care of other patients—they’re really caring. Dad's doing okay, but I don't think they're used to someone like him in memory care. He eats with other Alzheimer's patients. He's coming to terms with it at his own pace. He uses their free bus to get to his chemo treatments, which is nice. But, I wish they'd involve him more in the assisted living activities. I don't know how he'd take it, but they aren't making much of an attempt. Given, they did get a new boss the week we moved in, so they were adjusting too. Overall, it's great for Mom. They try to get her more active, but it hasn't worked yet. Still, they're looking after her really well.

"Very Accommodating Staff"
It turns out that our cousin couldn't get into Brookdale Place. She needed a skilled nursing facility, so that's where she is now. I have to say, they were wonderful for holding the apartment while she was in the hospital and even longer when she was in the skilled nursing facility. It became clear that she wouldn't make it to Brookdale. They were just nice, and we didn't have to pay extra for holding the room. I give them really high kudos.

"Good Food"
My mom has only been at the assisted living facility for a few days, but it's been good so far. She really likes the food, and I agree with her—it's much better than her previous place. The soup is especially tasty, and good food is important. Since my mom was at Chatfield, which is also a Brookdale community, they waived the community fee and accepted her despite her specific situation. She has dementia and some health issues. However, there have been a few issues. Some staff members forget about things like oxygen, which is concerning. Regardless of the facility you choose, you can't just leave your loved one there—you need to stay on top of things to ensure everything goes smoothly. Additionally, there's a nurse with a heavy accent, which might be challenging for people with hearing or memory problems. It's essential to address any potential obstacles.

"They're pretty close to being there but have management issues"
They've got some problems with management over there. Just this week, they hired a new manager and chef, but things are still a bit rocky. The care is okay, but there are a few issues they're trying to fix. My mom smokes, and while they do have a smoking room, the place is really meant for people with memory issues. The cooking staff wasn't up to par (I know about restaurants), but the aides and overall atmosphere are great. They need to sort out their management or they'll have more problems with residents. I wouldn't discourage anyone from going there, but you should really need what they offer. The facility is small, with bright rooms and excellent open spaces, but those management issues are holding them back.

"Visited Facility; Apartment Too Small for Mom's Needs"
On July 20, 2013, my husband and I visited an assisted living facility. We didn't bring my mom along because we want to decide on only 2-3 places first. The apartment was too tight for my mom's liking. She still insists on cooking her meals, tidying her place, and doing her own laundry because she's still physically strong.

Working Out The Kinks
"Mixed Review: Friendly Staff but Lacking Proper Care & Management"
The food isn't that good, almost like I wouldn't want to eat it even if I had to. When there's an emergency, it takes a long time for help to come, which makes me think there's something wrong with their response system. It's hard to tell who's in charge when it's not a normal business hour, like before 9 am, after 5 pm and on weekends. It's like there's no one running the place off hours. They don't provide beds and the place is empty of furniture. The staff, though, is really friendly and tries their best. The food they give doesn't seem very healthy. My mom moved in on a Friday and it kind of seemed like she was left alone for the weekend. At first, she didn't feel very welcome and was a bit confused. The people who advertise seem to do a good job but the actual place isn't like the ads. I feel like there's no one I can talk to about my worries. If you decide to visit, make sure you see the place at different times so you know what it's really like. Once, I went to see my mom after work and she was trying to go to the bathroom. No one was there to help her, which was risky because she could have fallen. I pulled the emergency cord, but no one came. I ended up having to help her, which makes me worry for her safety.

"Cozy Atmosphere and Thoughtful Care"
I really enjoy the cozy atmosphere and the smaller size of this assisted living facility. The menu looks appealing, although it doesn't seem to be a major selling point. I also appreciate that the advanced dementia care unit isn't isolated like a closed ward.

"Assisted Living Oasis with Heartfelt Comfort and Cozy Charm"
This place was really busy and active. They have a dog, which might be good or bad for mom. I saw staff comforting a resident in the common area, which was really nice. It feels cozy, with lots of decorations like at mom's house. Everyone here hangs out together, which is good. The rooms aren't boring boxes, they have character. The one-bedroom option is comfortable and private. They have activities like van rides and shopping that might interest mom. They're flexible about changing rooms if needed. The food options seem alright. It's near UHart.
