"Assisted Living Experience at Maplewood: Advocacy and Improvements in Progress"
My husband, who is on hospice care, has been at Maplewood for 4 months. I've realized how crucial it is to advocate for him and stay vigilant. The staff are generally good and capable but often quite occupied. The new management is actively working on staffing, cleanliness, and better communication with families.

"Mixed Staff, Pricey Billing: Tides Assisted Living Review"
Wow, the courtyard and garden are so beautiful! The staff here are a mix of great and just okay. No one was poor or offensive, which is good. If your family member is proactive and asks questions, they'll get the best care. But there were some mildly disruptive residents who stayed in Tides for too long; they should've been moved to the secure memory care area. This place is pricey, even for an expensive area. And watch out for billing – it wasn't always reliable; I had to double-check the numbers.

"Welcoming and Cozy Assisted Living with Great Amenities"
Maplewood at Darien is a lovely place, so welcoming and cozy. All the shared rooms are nicely decorated and modern. My aunt lives there and enjoys the pub, sunroom, and patio garden. Her small studio apartment is comfy and just right for her, like a true second home. They have activities and services every day for residents. They often go out for lunch or scenic drives. The food is pretty good, and the dining room is clean and beautiful! The staff is friendly, caring, and always ready to help with anything. Besides being a bit expensive, we're overall very happy with her new "home."

"Look and feel fails residents beyond surface level"
This place looks neat and tidy, both inside and outside. But that's about it. There aren't many things for the people who live here to do. It leads to them feeling bored and not really involved in anything. Like another reviewer said, the ones who don't have memory problems aren't getting their brains challenged enough. In no time, they might start to feel down. They have arts and crafts activities every now and then but they're more like what you'd expect in a kindergarten class. The food options aren't that great either. They serve it just warm enough, not hot. Plus, the staff takes a long time to serve the food. The people living here don't seem to mind. But it's sad since everyone usually looks forward to meal times. They charge extra for everything. So make sure you find out what you need - like laundry service, medicine administration, help during meals, salon services, etc., and confirm the prices before you sign the agreement. Many people have personal aides. If their families think this is needed, it says something about the staff's availability and how expensive it is. Lastly, it gets harder to make friends as you age. I don't think most new folks really wish to be in a place like this. That's why it's the staff's job to make them feel part of the community early on. It's got to be more than just remembering their names and saying 'hi' when they pass by. Even elderly people have their own group of friends. Without more things to do together, this place feels more like an average hotel than home.

"Untrustworthy Staff Makes Facility Not Recommended"
The workers here aren't good and they act shady and unreliable. I strongly advise against admitting a loved one into this home.

"Maplewood Has Caring Team, but Food and Activity Issues Frustrate"
Maplewood is a nice spot with a loving team. But, the main issue is with their food and dining service. They say it's "farm to table", but it's not. The food's not that good. Even though the dining room people are friendly and nice, the service is just too slow. It sometimes takes us half an hour to get our meals. Everyone at the table gets their food at different times. It's stressful and annoying for the residents. The managers and other staff should take their meals in the dining room. That way, they can chat with the elderly residents, and also see how frustrating meal times can be. The activities aren't all that either. Sure, they show movies and live music and sometimes we go out for dinner, but there just isn't much else to do. No arts and crafts, no workshops, and definitely nothing that smart older folks would like. The residents who don't have memory problems don't have anywhere to express their creativity. Also, there's no gym or space to exercise or have therapy.

"Beautiful and Well-Run Assisted Living Home"
I really enjoyed meeting Christine and some of the other staff at Maplewood. It’s a beautiful and well-run place. This was my first time visiting an assisted living home, and I was very impressed.

"Mixed feelings about Maplewood at Darien Senior Living Facility"
Maplewood at Darien is a pretty, safe, and friendly place for seniors, and my parents can afford it. When we chose Maplewood, we were told they'd provide engaging activities and accommodate residents' preferences, but that's not always the case. They mainly focus on residents with higher needs. Unfortunately, there's no way for families to stay updated about their loved ones or what's happening at Maplewood, which could improve relationships with caregivers.

"Staff Is Skilled and Caring for Residents!"
My father's move to the Maplewood memory care unit was challenging and needed a lot of skill. At first, I didn't think he could live in a community, but the staff showed me they could handle it. There were some bumps along the way, but now I feel confident that someone besides me can care for this stubborn man with dementia.

"Staff Dedicated, Management Drops Ball; Refund Eventually Secured"
My dad, who has Alzheimer's, was assessed by this assisted living facility and they assured us that they could care for him. But, it didn't work out. Within a day of moving in, he fell and was sent to the hospital. After only a week, they told us we'd have to pay extra for round-the-clock aides. We decided to bring him back home. We found out they hadn't been giving his medicine properly. Getting a refund was tough, it took two months, many letters and calls, and even the state regulator getting involved. But, not everything was bad, I want to give credit to the regular staff who actually cared and engaged with my dad. It seems like the higher-ups were just focused on making money. Update: After I wrote this, I was contacted by a lady named She from the facility's marketing. She agreed my mom should get all her money back because of what we went through and made it happen. I have a lot of respect for her, showing that at least someone up top really cares.

"Satisfied with Maplewood, room for tiny improvement, but overall good."
Maplewood has been really good. We haven't had any problems and everything is going well. It's a really good service. There's not much they could do better. Giving it a 5 would be too much, so a 4 is just right.
