The Residence at South Windsor Farms

"Disappointing Experience at Small Assisted Living Facility"
We moved my mom to assisted living. At first, she enjoyed it. The building was cozy, with nice surroundings inside and out. The food was great, and the staff were friendly. They said there'd be a program for residents with dementia, but there wasn't one. Also, the nursing staff changed a lot, which made things difficult. We had to move her because her memory got worse, and there weren't enough staff to help her.

"Subpar Care and Lack of Support at South Windsor Farms"
My family member was living at The Residence at South Windsor Farms. In the Memory Care area, they don't give lots of food options, they only have 2 specials. The person I care about fell a lot and had to be rushed to the hospital often. The staff there didn't give any advice to help stop the falls. They also said they have a nurse available all day and night, but that wasn't true when we were there.

"Staff Turnover and Communication Issues Plague Assisted Living Facility"
The place went through a lot of changes in who worked there. My mom had different helpers all the time. Even the big bosses changed a bunch of times, like in July and then again in September, and one more time in January. I got a call from someone in charge of nursing that wasn't very nice, but when I went to see them a week later, they weren't there anymore. The helpers told my mom she asked for help too much and that she'd have to pay for each time she called.

"Quality Care with Some Staff Challenges"
Our loved one has seen a lot of staff changes, which can be a hassle. But the nurses have been there for a while, which is a plus. The care services are excellent, though the price is high. Overall, we'd recommend The Residences at South Windsor Farms to other families.

"Top-Notch Care and Cleanliness"
This place is new and super clean. The staff are really helpful and always communicate well. They go out of their way to assist. The food is tasty, balanced, and there’s lots of choices. It’s a bit pricier, but totally worth it. I highly recommend it.

"Family feel and friendly staff - Worth the cost"
This place feels like family. It’s warm and inviting. The staff is friendly, and both residents and staff are happy to answer questions. It’s a smaller facility where everyone knows each other. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s worth it.

"Wonderful Assisted Living Facility"
I really enjoyed my tour of this place. It's a nice community with friendly people. The tour guide was very kind and knew a lot. I learned new things about Alzheimer's that I didn't know before. Everything looked great. You can tell they keep the place very clean. Overall, it was a good experience.

"Missed the Mark, but Courteous!!"
The Residence at South Windsor Farms wasn't quite up to par. My loved one's requirements weren't well-met by the activities offered and the design didn't suit us. Anyway, it was a tidy place. The staff were polite and took notice of me when I visited.

I visited six other places before finding the right one for my mom. She needed more help than what her current place could offer. She was getting more anxious, confused, and lonely. The senior care industry is very competitive, and sometimes it feels like you're at a used car lot. Be careful of places that seem too good to be true. Some places that didn't meet our needs kept asking why, which was annoying because I know my mom better than they do. After my first round of visits, I narrowed it down to three places. I did more visits and used other methods to decide. I called to see if someone answered the phone, drove by at odd hours, checked their licenses online, and looked up the companies that owned them. I also drove around to see if the place was clean and asked people in the parking lot for their opinions. I scheduled a second round of visits and emailed each place with questions. I also asked to meet with the activities directors and nurses. I wrote down the pros and cons of each visit. I talked to my mom's doctors for their advice, which helped me choose the Residences at South Windsor Farms. I told them my choice and visited more, had a meal there, checked the restrooms, and met more staff, residents, and family members. This is important before signing anything to make sure everything is as good as it seems. The final decision was made after taking my mom on a tour and talking to her to make sure she was okay with the move. My mom has been at the Residences at South Windsor Farms for a week and is very happy. The staff gets her involved in activities, and everyone is very friendly. The food is good, and the staff is always ready to help but also respects independence. The nursing staff is great and interacts personally instead of hiding behind computers. The Executive Director is accessible and believes in a team approach where everyone helps out. I'm very pleased with this place and their community model. My mom goes to the dining room to eat, joins in activities, and has made friends even though she can't remember names. There were some burst pipes, but the response was amazing. The staff made sure everyone was safe, cleaned up the water, and worked with fire officials to ensure safety.

At The Residence at South Windsor Farms, I haven’t seen anything that needs improvement. I truly believe my mom is doing better at this facility than she was before. She seems brighter and more focused. They are doing an excellent job here!

"New and Good-Looking Place, but Still Perfecting Teamwork"
We visited this place while searching for a care home for a family member. The Residence at South Windsor Farms looked pretty good and quite new. People working there looked friendly, but it didn't feel like they were a well-coordinated team yet. The place looked so new that it seemed like they were still fixing some problems. My family member needs specific care, so at the time of our visit, it didn't seem like a solid match.

"Very happy with the care here!"
So far, our loved one’s care has been great. Every time we visit, he’s clean, well-dressed, and happy. The women working there are very kind, patient, and respectful. There’s no mistreatment of the residents like we saw at the other place. His care has been consistent and safe. The facility takes time to give the right medical and emotional care. We’re so glad this place has lightened our load.

"Positive But Rushed Experience in New Assisted Living Facility"
This place was nice, clean, and felt brand new, kind of like a hotel. The salesperson was full of information, but we ended up chatting too much and our visit felt rushed because we were on a tight schedule. We just started looking for assisted living places, so we couldn’t compare this one to many others.
