"Neglect and Lack of Care at Ingleside Assisted Living Facility"

Two years ago, I helped a friend move into a studio apartment at Ingleside. At that point, it seemed like the best choice for my friend who was facing a tough time in his life. I readily accept that my friend wasn't an easy person to deal with. But, despite that, Ingleside had a duty to look after all its residents. They completely ignored a problem that led to my friend being rushed to the local hospital's ICU, thanks to another friend stepping in to help. Why did this happen? My friend, along with her physical problems, was covered in bed bug bites, severely underweight and was going through serious mental health troubles, which were only made worse by the bed bugs and malnutrition. She never attended meals, kept her room locked and refused all hygiene services whilst living independently. Her condition was reported to the staff not once but twice, yet they did nothing about it. Even though they knew how dire the situation was, they didn't alert her family member living out of state, or reach out to social services, both of which were necessary. Sure, my friend wasn't the easiest person to handle. But by taking money in exchange for their services, Ingleside has an obligation to care for people who are clearly vulnerable. Their lack of care was beyond shocking; in fact, I'd even say it was almost a case of elder abuse.

"“Promising Start at Assisted Living”"

Even though my mom has only been here a week, I’m hopeful based on what she’s telling me about her experience. If she’d known, she would’ve moved in sooner.

My loved one is doing great here. He is getting wonderful care, and I'm happy with everything they've done for us. The staff is patient and really cares about the residents. They keep everything nice and clean. I know he is safe and in good hands here. I highly recommend this community; it has worked out so well for us.

"Wonderful Place for Mom's New Home!"

Ingleside made it easy for my mother to move in. Everyone is super friendly and ready to help. I really like how it's a smaller place, which means she gets more personal attention.

"Avoid Ingleside: Distressing Issues Abound"

I really don't know who came up with the other reviews, or how much time they spent in this place. The building's ready to collapse! One of the two elevators breaks down pretty much every week, sometimes for days, leaving everyone stuck using just one. The folks in charge claim they can't afford to fix it, even though Ingleside happens to be one of the priciest independent living joints in DE. Plus, the washers are always on the fritz, sometimes for a week or longer. Things got real bad on Labor Day weekend in 2015. Everybody had to evacuate 'cause of a power outage from a busted dishwasher. It took the Wilmington Fire Department guys six long hours with only one working elevator. They had to carry seniors down from thirteen floors, and lots of them were getting dehydrated in the heat. There was no plan, so they took people to a school in a not-so-great part of town. The bathrooms were far away, and I felt sorry for the older folks who had no choice in the matter. The staff did their best, but they weren't prepared for this kinda thing. This place seriously needs to be checked out and fixed up. The folks in charge don't seem to care about making it worth the hefty price tag. I'm able to get around on my own, but a lot of folks here can't. Some of them have memory loss or mental health issues, and they could easily wander out unnoticed. Please, be aware of these issues if you're thinking about moving here. You don't find out about this stuff until you've been here a while. Be smart about who you choose for a parent's care. I wouldn't recommend it here. I have plenty of issues myself, even though I get around pretty well. The management needs a serious shake-up, and there need to be better rules in place. If you can, talk to someone who lives here. And ask about the meals, too, 'cause they're boring and repetitive. The menu hasn't been updated in ages, and by the time it's my turn to eat, stuff's usually gone. They promised me they'd cater to my vegetarian diet before I moved in, but they haven't followed through. I'm seriously unhappy living in this place and I hope someone will look into these problems. Please, think really hard before you decide to bring a loved one to live here. The building's old and falling apart and there are lots of problems inside, too. Think it through before you sign anything.

The best part, besides the cost, is my mom is happy there and always talks about how nice and helpful everyone is!

"Friendly and Caring Staff"

They are really great at working with families and don't rush you. You can talk to the director and the supervisor, visit the place, and they check on the patient. They are super accommodating and meet your needs. I've had an awesome experience.

"Great community with friendly staff and nice apartments!"

My mother picked this community because she loved the apartment and what it had to offer. The apartments don't have kitchens, but they provide a meal service. The food isn't the best and could use some improvement. They have a lovely garden out back. The staff is very friendly, and the apartment is just the right size—not too big and not too small.

"Great Place, Just Needs Some Paint"

Allows food in the unit. Besides the common areas needing a bit of paint, it's not a bad place.
