"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living: Some Room for Improvement"
Some of the workers can be unkind and pushy, making my mom feel rushed to bed, dressed, or using the bathroom. Waiting for food takes forever, and sometimes they bring the wrong stuff, making folks eat what they don't like. The menu repeats a lot, and it's not tasty, plus one morning, no coffee! I complained, and they fixed it by getting Duncan Donuts coffee the next day. I even got my mom an ice machine because it's hard to get ice here! Some staff are nice, but there shouldn't be any bad ones when we're paying!

"Communication Needs Work"
I’d recommend it to friends—it’s one of the better places I looked into. They could improve communication, though; it feels like the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing.

"Not Ideal for Higher Care Needs"
We didn't end well. Everything was okay until my family member needed more help. Others have mentioned sudden discharge and advised to monitor their care closely. Staff was nice but not prepared for the level of care promised. I wouldn't suggest it for high care needs, but it's fine if you're independent and want a social lifestyle.

"Clean, great activities, mixed staff"
The Somerford House is very clean with no bad odors, which impressed us. Some of the staff are great, while others just do their jobs. The young man running the activities program is top-notch. We have already recommended this community to families and will continue to do so.

Rewrite this 3 star review of an assisted living facilities retaining the tone and using 8th grade level american English: 'Some of the nurses aids we really like and are sweet as can be and some of them we do not care for at all and don't seem to care for the residents. They have had quite a bit of turnover of staff, they just hired a new administrator and they lost the activities director that everyone really liked. The food is good, lunch is the main menu and dinner is something a little lighter. The have a new vendor coming in the beginning of the year and it is supposed to be gourmet. They do have happy hours on Fridays and she also likes to play bingo.' then create a (in 10 words or less and placed in double ) that summarizes the review .

"Pricey and inattentive: Not recommended for poor communication and service."
This place costs a lot and they made us pay more right when we got there. They don't pay much attention to us either. I wouldn't tell anyone to go here. They're not good at keeping in touch either.

"Great Communication and Care During Pandemic"
My experiences are from during the pandemic. Pauline and I have had great interactions. She calls regularly about my mom. The community sends an email to the family with updates and a monthly activity calendar.

"Clean and Good Value, but Needs More Attentive Staff"
The place was always clean. The staff could have been more attentive to the residents. My mom had her own caregiver, and we think without that person, her needs wouldn't have been fully met. When we got the staff to pay closer attention, they did just fine. They were good at getting the residents involved in activities. We felt the community was a good value for the price.

"Wonderful and Welcoming Assisted Living Facility"
This place is very nice and super clean. The residents were happy, friendly, and active. Both the staff and residents were talkative and involved, making it feel like one big family. The costs are similar to other places. The rooms are a good size but the kitchenettes are a bit small.

"Mom's New Care Home"
We have been a bit unhappy with this place. My mom got sick, and while the staff is nice, they need to pay more attention to her needs. The menu could use some improvements too. We do like the activities they offer. We hope things get better since we just moved in. Families should think about this place for their loved ones, but a tour might help them decide.

"Good Tour and Kind People, But Not a Match for Mom"
I took a good look around this place. It's a pleasant community filled with nice folks. They treated my family and me with lots of kindness. The community was very well-maintained and looked good. The staff we met were friendly and could answer all of our questions. The whole experience was pretty nice, but it just wasn't the right match for my mom.

"Great Place with Lots of Activities and Friendly Setup"
This place is really nice. It’s set up in neighborhoods, which is cool. The rooms are smaller but okay, and the bathroom is big enough for a scooter. There are lots of sitting and TV areas available. You even get a mailbox at your door! The dining rooms are smaller with menus, and lunch is the biggest meal of the day. There are lots of activities to do, and there’s a resident PT room where you can get orders for therapy while you’re there.

"A Comfortable Place for Independence and Care"
I needed to find a community that was nearby and fit my parents’ budget. They have adjusted well and can still enjoy their independence, but help is available if they need it. The community is very well-kept, which was really important to us. Everything is clean and nice, making it feel cozy. My parents have joined in on some activities, and there are great options to choose from. The food is decent, and they serve balanced meals. Overall, it’s been a good experience, and I would definitely recommend it.

"Whole experience was excellent for my grandmother's safety"
I thought the whole experience at Somerford House & Place Newark was excellent. From the site visit to the move-in, everyone was very responsive. I was really thankful for how quickly they helped my grandmother, who is 99, after she fell. We needed to get her into a safe place fast, and the process was super quick. We were amazed! Somerford even let us bring her to lunch to see if she liked it there. Everything has gone as smoothly as possible, and I believe it’s the right place for her. The only thing my grandmother has mentioned is that they do too much for her. She’s used to being independent, but I explained that it’s for her safety. The staff members were very accommodating, and we were really happy with everything.

"“Friendly and Inquisitive, but Safety Assured.”"
They’re really nice. I’ve got lots of questions. It’d be great if they could arrange a family meeting to answer them. It’s my first time dealing with a nursing home. Maybe they could send us regular updates—weekly or monthly—to keep us informed. I’m confident she’s safe there, even though she’s not happy yet.

The place is super clean and tidy. Everyone is really nice. We haven't had any problems. My mom likes the food—it's pretty good. We're still adjusting since it's new for us. The best part is the food, and there's a nice outdoor area. Plus, they're pet-friendly.

"Their Service is as Bare as Their Floors - Avoid!"
If you're indifferent to your elderly relative's well-being, this is the facility for you. They are dishonest, snatch your money, and show no respect or care towards your family. I was shocked at the disturbing events I witnessed in just a short visit. It seems that residents in the locked unit have complete freedom, except for the ability to leave. I saw seniors eating without assistance, feeding themselves sloppily like swine. Medications weren't properly administered, and undesired residents were ignored, left completely isolated until their family came to retrieve them. Despite its deceptive outward appearance of cleanliness and attractiveness, ensure you regularly check up on your relative. In time, the truth will be revealed. They brag about their memory care but just take notice of all the neglected children's games. Their sole form of entertainment seems to be bingo. The food is substandard, without any taste, and is shockingly poor quality considering the high prices. I noticed bare floors in some of the rooms. Simply incredible. If you have a family member there, I implore you to keep a watchful eye on them. My relative ended up in a psychiatric unit because they were unable to cater to her needs, despite their assurance that they could. We were forced to stop the payment on the check!

"Nice but expensive and not very friendly"
This place cost twice as much as the one we picked, and they didn't seem as friendly. They were like, "This is what we have and this is the price. If you can't pay, it's not for you." The community was very nice and bigger than the one we chose.

"Inadequate Staff, Unreliable Medical Services at Assisted Living Facility"
I don't think this assisted living facility has sufficient staff, especially during off-peak hours. My elderly aunt stayed here and she ended up getting a urinary tract infection. She also had a bad fall and hurt her back. I never got the complete details of what exactly transpired that day. Their supposed medical team called me to take her to the hospital, but upon my arrival, they told me she was fine and did not need to be admitted. The flooring is tiled and carpeted concrete, but the carpeting is rather thin, and considering my aunt's height, and her frail, elderly bones, how could they assure that nothing was broken without getting an X-ray done? I often saw only three employees during night shifts. Once, I had to wait for 20 minutes before they responded to the doorbell. I was initially quoted one price, but the final bill was considerably higher. The place is physically well-maintained, but many of the facility's residents struggle to fully comprehend their surroundings. This raises the question whom the aesthetics are intended to benefit. To date, I have not managed to move out my aunt's furniture and now she'll be charged for another month.

"Focus on Dementia Care with a Homey Atmosphere"
They have all kinds of activities, like crafts at the town center, music events, chili and hot dog days, and exercise sessions. Sometimes, groups of residents go out for ice cream or other treats. We chose this place because they focus on dementia care. They don’t take physically sick people, just those with dementia. There’s nothing they could do better. He eats well, and they let everyone eat as much as they want. The community feels like an independent retirement place, not a nursing home. There’s no smell of sickness, no constant alarms, and people aren’t just sitting in wheelchairs in the hallways. Everyone seems happy and well cared for. They make sure he’s clean, with regular showers and incontinence care. They don’t leave anyone in soiled clothes. They also encourage socializing by not letting residents stay in their rooms all day. If someone tries to isolate, they lock the room door to get them out and about.

"A Mixed Experience"
This place is really nice. I like how it's set up and the vibe it gives off. The people who work here and live here all seem really happy and nice. The staff know what they're doing and treat the residents well. But the prices are a bit steep compared to other places like it, at least from what I've seen.
