"Alabama Oaks: Charming Porch, Lacking AC and Engagement"

Alabama Oaks seems nice with its pretty porch. But, some rooms don't have good air conditioning. When we moved our mom in last year, we asked for a window AC unit. It was too hot without one. A year later, the owner took it out without asking us. He said it looked bad from outside. The staff doesn't interact with residents. They stay in the kitchen on their phones. This place isn't good for people who can't move easily. There's not much supervision. Also, the menu shown to families was different from what's actually served. Every lunch, residents get soup and a sandwich, every day.

"Mixed Feelings About Cozy Assisted Living with Few Private Amenities"

This cozy assisted living home has 20 residents and is owned by an individual with an RN running it. The owner was very nice. However, the downfall of this place is that it's an older home that has been converted, so there were a lot of thresholds that made my mother nervous about falling with her walker. There were only 1 or 2 rooms with private bathrooms, and the rest had to use shared bathrooms. For the right person, it would have been great. I liked the homey atmosphere, with a dining room, kitchen, and just a homier feel. However, my mother is pretty picky, and she didn't like it.
