"Assisted Living Facility Review: Initial Welcome Disappointment"

The experience was really frustrating because nobody greeted or guided my sister when she moved in, despite being told she would have assistance for her first two weeks.

"Positive Tour Experience at Wickshire Countryside Assisted Living Facility"

Our family visited Wickshire Countryside in person. Overall, we liked the tour and the community seemed nice.

"Mixed feelings but friendly staff; consider food and response time."

I would recommend Wickshire Countryside to others. The staff are really friendly and helpful, although sometimes the aides take a while to respond. The food has a lot of salt in it, and they often run out of what's on the menu.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short in Basic Services and Communication"

This place offers only basic services. Anything beyond food, laundry, and cleaning costs extra. It's important to know this. For example, Level 1 costs an additional charge. This level should include help in the bathroom, two showers per week, and assistance with bedtime and waking up. However, they only provide these if the resident asks by pushing a button. They don't actively help residents get up or go to bed. My dad didn't understand he had to push the button, so he slept in his chair and had accidents many nights. It's crucial for people to understand what services are included. There's no medical staff except for one person who heads the department. We were promised many things that didn't happen, and we only found out later what was actually offered. My dad fell out of his chair once, and they didn't inform me. He also pressed the button once because he was having trouble breathing, but they didn't even contact hospice, despite not having medical staff. Overall, I'm not satisfied with the services, but I'm not sure if it's the same everywhere.

"Unsure about Wickshire Countryside; Will keep searching for now."

We went to check out Wickshire Countryside while we were hunting for a place for our family member. It was just okay, nothing too special. But it didn't really convince us. We're still gonna look around.

"The facility had communication and food issues."

We chose this place because it cost less, was close to home, and offered a military discount. But the sponsor didn’t interact much with our loved one. They could’ve made them feel more included. The food was terrible, and one elevator was often broken. 😊

"Disappointing Experience at Wickshire Assisted Living Facility"

We had to take my grandma out of Wickshire after only 5 weeks, and I was really let down. Before she went into their memory care unit, they said they could look after her needs if she had hospice care for extra help, and she could stay there as she got older. They sent a referral for hospice (at the rehab center she was at) before moving her, and she started hospice care then. The person from Wickshire said it was "extra help hospice," not end of life hospice. But that wasn't true. Hospice said she could only have palliative care. As soon as she moved in, Wickshire couldn't take care of her properly. They had trouble moving her with only two people to help, and bathing her was difficult. Hospice had to do bed baths, and Wickshire started leaving her in bed most of the time. They gave her finger foods because they didn't have enough staff to feed her, even though they were feeding two other people. I was really let down because they said she would get physical therapy, and the third-party company was supposed to be there. That was one of the main reasons I picked this place. But it wasn't true. The sales team said one thing, but they didn't do it. They never should have taken my grandma because now I see she really needed a skilled nursing facility. There aren't any activities in the memory care unit. They just sit them in front of the TV, and half the time it doesn't even work. They only clean the tables once a day after meals. We brought in a cup with a straw for my grandma to drink from, and when we moved her out, it was filthy. She was still drinking from it that day. The straw was full of gunk. I'm grateful for the staff who were honest with me, even though the administration said they could handle my grandma's needs. I would never tell anyone to go to this place. I'm just glad I moved my grandma out before she got worse or got hurt because they weren't prepared to take care of her.

"Better Evaluation Needed, Mixed Experience for Residents"

They need to do a better job checking people. They put our family member in the wrong part. He needed Memory Care, not Assisted Living. He was dirty every day, and we had to take him out. The staff were nice at first, but they made too many mistakes and didn't talk enough. Other people there seemed happy and clean. So, if your family member can walk around, it might be okay. It just wasn't right for us.

"Friendly Staff, But Activities Lack Spark"

The people who work here are super nice. They make families feel at home when they come to visit. They listen to ideas on how to make things better. But the things to do here are kind of the same all the time, not much changes, and it’s hard to get folks to join in. People living here don’t seem to have much fun. It costs a lot, but it doesn’t feel worth it because there’s not much joy.

"Great experience for Mom, she feels right at home!"

Mom has been here for just over a month, and she’s doing great. She’s adjusted well to her new home. The staff and other residents have made her feel very welcome. She really likes the staff—they’re super friendly and supportive. She seems to enjoy the food and is participating in some activities and social hours. Overall, it’s been a really positive experience, and I’d gladly recommend this place to anyone who asks.

"Great care and happy atmosphere!"

I really like the care at this community. The staff is outstanding and keeps me updated on his progress. We're happy knowing the meals are good and that he enjoys the menu. There are activities to join in on, and we feel good knowing he is happy in a nice place. We highly recommend this care and value to other families looking for care for a loved one.

"Ready for Improvements!"

It was decent. A bit old-fashioned, but they're planning updates. Awesome deals.

"Great options and layout, but needs more outdoor space"

We were really happy with the prices and how the rooms were set up at this center. If there had been more outdoor areas besides just the courtyard, we would have chosen it first. There are plenty of activities, meals, and outings for the residents, plus lots of helpful information for us.

"Excellent in almost every way"

When we looked for assisted living places near Palm Harbor, we checked out 8-9 different ones. Most of them had similar features, like room sizes and amenities. Our second choice was Horizon Bay Clearwater (now Brookdale Safety Harbor) because it was close to our home and more affordable than our top pick. We really liked almost everything about Safety Harbor. The only area that wasn’t excellent was how different staff members coordinated when a resident needed special attention. We understand that the ongoing merger with Brookdale might have caused some hiccups. Also, when we moved Dad in, the executive director was away for training, and the head nurse was absent on a critical day—just a bit of bad luck. The activities weren’t perfect, but that’s more about how well they suited Dad’s needs rather than the staff’s dedication. For example, Dad loves walking, but expecting a 3-mile daily walk at the facility isn’t realistic. Chair aerobics didn’t quite meet his needs either. If Dad ends up needing memory care instead of assisted living, we’ll accept that. But we might look for a place with more secure outdoor walking space. Overall, if your loved one fits the assisted living or memory care category, Brookdale Safety Harbor is a great choice.

"Happy Relative"

My sister-in-law is so happy here. She doesn’t want to leave. She’s joined several groups and is very active. It’s been wonderful.

"Very Happy with Horizon Bay Despite Quiet Arrival"

I’m really happy with Horizon Bay. Even though we didn’t get the usual welcome because we came in quietly, we haven’t had any big issues. The place is in a great location, and I’d recommend it for any senior. I highly suggest it!

"A Positive Experience at a Spacious Assisted Living Community"

This community was really nice and clean. It was a larger facility, and the respite care was on the top floor. I wanted something closer to home and a place my mom could get around easily. Everything looked great during the tour!

"Anybody want drinks?"

My loved one stayed for a week and loved it. The staff always made sure they were involved and happy. The food is great, and the entertainment is out of this world. I love the happy hour they offer. The place feels like home, just like a 5-star hotel.

"Highly Recommended!"

Horizon Bay Clearwater has been doing really well for my friend. The staff are always on top of things, making sure he’s comfortable and getting the care he needs. The community is super clean and well-maintained. The food is delicious and healthy, with good-sized portions. Although my friend is still getting used to the community, overall, everything has been great.

"Very nice ALF, well kept."

I really enjoy living here. Everyone is friendly and helpful. The food is mostly good, although sometimes there are things I can't eat or don't like. That's to be expected, I guess. I appreciate the weekly cleaning, vacuuming, and laundry services. The only downside is the $137 monthly charge for the oxygen machine I didn't know about it upfront. Overall, I'd recommend it.

"Short stay, positive experience"

My family member has only been here briefly, but our experience has been good so far. She's settled in and seems to be doing well.

"Dad's transition is going well with great staff support!"

My dad is doing fine, even though he feels a bit cooped up and unable to go anywhere. He’s used to being independent, so this change has been tough for him, but he looks good. He’s gained some weight and has even made a few friends. I haven’t visited too often since I live in another state, but when I have, the staff has been awesome and keeps me updated on how he’s doing.

"Great staff, but slow with repairs and laundry"

The managers here are fantastic and very friendly. The maintenance team has trouble finding enough workers, which affects their service. Laundry and repairs take a long time.

"Great place, needs more maintenance workers"

The managers here are awesome and super nice. But the maintenance team is short-staffed, so the services aren’t great. It takes a long time for repairs, and the laundry service is really slow.

"Great Place with Friendly Staff and Lots of Activities"

This is a great place with nice apartments and lots of amenities. The whole place is clean and well managed, and the staff is super friendly. The food could be better, but the residents are always active and really nice. It's a nice place.

"Good Facility, Needs Better Communication"

Our time at Horizon Bay Clearwater has been a bit bumpy. The place itself is great, it feels like a cozy home and it's always clean and tidy. Plus, the staff here are really good and totally willing to help. But we've hit a snag with how well the staff connect with each other. It's as if one doesn't know what the other is doing. They're always ready to help, but you have to ask a few times before things actually get sorted out.

"Fair Place, Could Use Some Tweaks"

Horizon Bay seems pretty good, but it has a few issues that could use some fixing. The place is kept in good shape, clean and the people working there are nice. Still, I feel like the cost is a bit high for how tiny the rooms are. I also feel like they're a bit too involved in the everyday lives of the people staying there. Neither me nor my family member likes things like having set times to get up or go to sleep. They also make these rules without asking the family first. But all in all, it isn't a bad place to live.

"A Serene Setting with Some Room for Improvement"

It’s about a 7-minute drive from Oldmar, which is appealing. The outdoor courtyard is lovely, although not nearly as beautiful as being right on the water!

"Friendly staff, clean place, great location, and good price"

The staff here are really friendly. The location is great. The place is very nice and clean. They offer long dining times and lots of choices. The price fits our budget. The 1-bedroom apartment with a kitchenette is great. We love the staff!

"A Great Memory Care Facility for Mom"

I’m reviewing the memory care part, also called Clairebridge. When my mom needed memory care, I first checked out Clairebridge in Gainesville, FL. I liked that it was in a separate building just for memory care. The facility and staff there seemed better than another big company called Emeritus. But after talking it over, we decided it would be better for us to find a place closer to where I live. So, we looked at Clairebridge at Horizon Bay in Clearwater, FL. I was really impressed with how dedicated and skilled the staff are there. The place is clean, safe, and well-managed. I believe my mom is getting the care she needs, and the staff are always polite and respectful. At Horizon Bay, the memory care unit has 20 rooms in one wing of the building on the ground floor. They have their own dining area and an outside garden that’s easy to get to.

"Feels like home, happy with activities and support"

I’ve lived here for 3 years and it feels like home. I’m very happy and comfortable. I have many friends and enjoy participating in activities. I’m even the Vice President of the Residents Council, which is fun. The council helps make daily life better. My son and daughter live nearby, which makes me feel lucky. Horizon Bay works hard to meet everyone's needs. Even though it’s part of the larger Brookdale community, it still feels cozy.

"Nice but Overwhelmingly Huge Facility"

This place is big - like a large apartment complex. It just didn't feel right for what we needed. It felt too big, even though the lady was super kind and the building looked good. People have different ideas about what they want, and for us, this was just too big.

"Unwilling to Work with Budget, Refused Tour of Facility"

They refused to accommodate our budget limitations...didn't even bother to give me a tour.
