"Florida's Assisted Living: High Demand, Low Supply"
This place might be like other locations around here. My biggest tip is to avoid aging in Florida. Too many people are in need and sadly, there just isn't enough assistance or funds to give them the help required.

"Caring Transition with Personal Touch at Assisted Living Facility"
The staff was really helpful when moving my Aunt to a new place, even though we couldn't be there. They found furniture to make her feel at home, and one person even brought in a TV for her. They serve three meals every day. My Aunt stays in the memory care unit, so I'm not there during mealtime. The staff tells me she sometimes prefers to eat in her room, and they are willing to provide different meals when she asks.

"Positive Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
We've really liked this place. Our whole family thinks it's beautiful and the staff are always cheerful and friendly. The person in charge of sales and marketing has been fantastic. The business office has been fine too. We did have some problems with the home office about billing. For two months, they charged us more than they were supposed to for rent, which made my loved one very worried. The first time, they gave the money back to him. The second time, they applied it to the next month's rent. I think that's all sorted out now, I hope so! What impressed us right away at this place was our tour guide. She was really enthusiastic and seemed genuinely interested in showing us around and giving us information. She was very sincere and was greeted by several residents during the tour who seemed to really like her. They also accept VA Aid and Attendance here, which has been very helpful for us! That has started now, but before it did they were great about working with us and our budget. My loved one has been very happy with the food. They also have a good variety of activities, and he enjoys them. The communication with our family has been good. Overall, I think we made a really good choice. It's been a great experience so far. I would definitely recommend them to family and friends.

"Community Offers Value, Limited Outings During Pandemic"
I recommend checking out this community for your loved one. I’ve already suggested it to friends. The price is reasonable for what you get. However, due to the pandemic, there might be fewer community outings.

"Brookdale Yorktowne's Fall Accidents and High Costs"
I picked Brookdale at Yorktowne for my mom's assisted living, since it was quite a nice place and didn't seem too expensive when compared to other places nearby. My mom had been having some issues with falling at home recently and seems more and more mixed up, not really able to take care of herself much anymore. I don't live in the same state, so I wasn't really in the know about the local assisted living places. Anyway, after looking into a few places and visiting some, I chose Brookdale because they reassured me they could take good care of my mom. I told them that I was worried that she might fall again and let them know she can get confused and needs to be checked on to make sure she's safe and not fallen in her room. However, on her second day there, she fell in the bathroom when she was left alone. Even though I had made it clear to them that she was most likely to fall in the bathroom when she would try to get up and put on her adult diaper. It doesn't seem like this info was given to the aid who was looking after her though. Because of that fall she ended up needing stitches in her forehead. Then she fell a second and third time. They told us that we should hire full time personal aides to stay with her to prevent any more falls. These aides cost $17.00/hour, in addition to the monthly $3200.00 charges to live at Brookdale. It quickly became clear that Brookdale wasn't going to be the right place for my mom, it was just too costly. Luckily, we found another place where she's been getting the care she needs and hasn't fallen once in , unlike at Brookdale where she had 3 falls in a few days. I think Brookdale is probably okay for someone who's more aware and doesn't fall so much, but don't believe them when they tell you they can take care of someone who's confused and falls a lot. They really can't. You're better off looking elsewhere.

"Really an Impressive Place"
My uncle is very happy at Brookdale Yorktown. He is in the assisted living area, which is very nice and clean. The staff are friendly and caring, and I'm impressed they even remember my name when I visit. My uncle enjoys eating in the dining room and socializing with other residents. He likes the menu except for the fish, but there are plenty of other options. They keep the residents busy with activities like Friday Happy Hour with a DJ, entertainment, sometimes a speaker, and even wine if allowed. Saturdays have an Ice Cream Social, and they have an active calendar so residents know what to expect. They also offer transportation to doctor appointments, shopping, and grocery stores within a certain time frame, with special arrangements made ahead of time. I would definitely recommend Brookdale Yorktown to my friends and family.

"Great facility, wonderful staff, just needs better orientation!"
This is a great place, and my mom enjoys living here. She wishes there were more active residents or activities like crafts and flower arranging, and she’d like more challenging exercise classes. But she’s very active for 94, so the program is likely perfect for most. The staff is amazing and really made her feel at home. One thing they could improve is providing a formal orientation on the first day, covering things like sign-in/out, trash, laundry, and health concerns. Highly recommended!

"Potential Improvements Needed at Assisted Living Facility"
My buddy was living in this place. The cleanliness and upkeep were not up to par as they should have been. The employees were okay, with a few standing out positively. The meals could have certainly been better. Activities were offered to him, but he chose not to take part. I have relocated my buddy closer to where I live and he's doing a lot better now. I would advise families to visit this place before deciding to bring their loved one here.

"Avoid Brookdale Yorktown: A Granddaughter's Heartbreaking Tale"
I'm sharing this reluctantly as my beloved grandma is now in my spare bedroom preparing to depart from this life. My grandma took a nasty fall at Brookdale Yorktown’s memory care unit on January 8, 2016, Friday night. She was driven to the ER, but I didn't hear about it until Hospice gave me a call the next morning. Apparently, Brookdale Yorktown hadn't bothered to inform me. My grandma was so severely injured - suffering a broken C2 vertebra and a hematoma at the back of her head from the fall. If you recall, this was the same type of injury that ended the life. When I called Brookdale Yorktown on January 9, I couldn’t get a hold of any authority figures. Even the reception desk was unattended. I managed to pass on a message and to my surprise, I received a call back after just 3 minutes. My grandma, closely watched by Hospice, was moved back to Brookdale Yorktown later that afternoon. However, the facility seemed to have made no effort to see if she can return. When I moved her home on January 11, I noticed a giant bruise on her left thigh that wasn't there before. It was so large it extended from her hip to her knee. It seems like another fall the facility didn't inform me about. They also won't disclose the circumstances surrounding her devastating C2 fall. All we know is no one saw it occur. Just so you know, Brookdale Yorktown is currently staffed bare bones, with overworked and underpaid personnel. Recently, the director in charge walked out without any warning. My grandma was admitted to this facility in August 2015 due to Alzheimer's Disease. Despite paying for level one care, it seems we were looking after her more than they were. For instance, we often cleaned her room and even cleaned up after her roommate. Sadly, my grandma's health has become even worse due to the fall; she now has critical brain bleeding. Please reconsider before choosing this facility. Meanwhile, they were shameless enough to show potential residents her room while she was still in it, with Hospice at her side. Their lack of respect is appalling. Thank you for reading. A priest will be visiting us later today to administer my grandma's last rites. Please think twice about this facility - you wouldn't want your loved ones' final moments to occur here. Take care.

"Exasperated: Overbilling and Neglect at Assisted Living Facility"
This place might've been great once, but it's starting to look pretty beat up. Lots of the staff are nice, but I've been pulling my hair out over crazy high bills. They've charged us too much for everything - from unnecessary meds to personal services. This has been going on for six months and it's more than $700 a month. Trying to sort out these mistakes has been a nightmare. It's so bad, I wonder if they're doing it on purpose. They agree that they've messed up, but nothing's changing. Locals say it's the company's fault and the bills keep coming. It's been a huge pain dealing with insurance because of this. The building's pretty gross, too. The carpet's old and dirty and there's this green, moldy stuff growing on the siding. I wish I'd picked a different place before dropping a ton of money on a non-refundable fee they sprung on us at the last minute. I feel really bad for the staff and even worse for the residents who can't sort out these problems themselves. If you want a place that can handle simple stuff without a fuss, you might wanna look somewhere else. I've spent way too much time trying to fix my dad's billing issues and other problems that should've been sorted with one call. I'm so let down, annoyed and absolutely not happy with this place.

"First Visit at Emeritus: A Disappointing Preview"
My tour at Emeritus was kinda wild. They didn't have an empty room to show us around. While we were there, a lady living there took a tumble. We didn't really get to check out much of the place because we were stuck in the meeting room the whole time. It didn't give me a positive vibe right away.

We've been really happy with Emeritus at Port Orange! The staff are super friendly and do a great job with what they have.
