"Mixed Experience at American House Assisted Living"
The stairs don't look nice and the elevators need cleaning more often. Most meals are tasty. There aren't many activities here. They go out twice a week and have church on Sundays. They post a monthly schedule on your door at American House. Apartments have plenty of room. The price for care is a little high.

"Mixed Population and Depression at American House Assisted Living"
American House was a place where different kinds of people lived together, but it felt really sad. Some people who didn't seem to be thinking clearly were walking around in the main areas, and the staff had to watch them.

"Striving for Order"
American House Sarasota feels nice, with friendly folks. They’re working on organization, but it’s tough due to staff shortages.

"Bigger than expected, beautiful community, second choice for loved one"
This community was lovely, and it was our second choice. It was larger than what we were looking for our loved one.

"Impressive Assisted Living Facility Offers Comfort and Engaging Social Activities"
This assisted living facility has a very friendly staff and offers lots of medical services. The rooms are really nice. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the food is; everything is prepared fresh. Sometimes my parents don't like something, but there are lots of choices at every meal. So far, my parents haven't found activities they're interested in, except for Wednesday and Friday happy hours with live music, which they think are amazing.

"Good Experience but Needs Better Furniture"
My loved one is happy there. He's not very active, but he goes to meals and seems to like the food. He's doing well and getting healthier. They're renovating right now, but it's clean enough. I wish the furniture was easier for seniors to use. Some pieces are hard for older people to get in and out of.

"Happy Staff and Residents, Great Food, but Dinner Ends Early"
Every time we visit, the staff and residents always seem happy and relaxed. Our loved one has a nice apartment and enjoys the food. There are many activities like singing, dancing, and parties. She loves the meals but wishes dinner wasn’t over by 6:00 PM.

"Mixed Experience with Maintenance, Otherwise Friendly and Clean Community"
The community was helpful when I moved in. The maintenance team has trouble fixing things properly on the first try. The place is tidy, and the staff is nice. I'd suggest this community to others.

"“Nice Place, But Distant from Favorites”"
The facility is nice, but it seems a bit old. It’s also too far from the places we enjoy, like the Friendship Center and Main Street in Sarasota.

"Unpleasant Odor Ruins Assisted Living Tour"
I toured this place and wasn't impressed. There was a bad odor and that was enough for me to count it out as an option.

"Nice Tour, But Not Close Enough For Family"
I visited this place and had a good time looking around. Everything was fine, and everyone was nice to me. The place looked nice too. The people who work there were really great. My tour went smoothly, but my brother wanted a place nearer to him and our family.

"Great care and welcoming community"
The tour was great, and the staff answered all our questions. The community looked clean and well-kept. The menu seemed really good too. This is a good place to care for a loved one. Families should definitely check it out for their family members' care.

"Not ideal for short stays, great for permanent."
Brookdale Sarasota Central was pretty nice, but it cost too much. We were only looking for a short-term option, so it didn't fit our budget. If we were searching for a place to stay long-term, I'd think about them, but for now, it wasn't quite what we needed.

"A community for higher medical needs, slightly pricier but attentive staff."
When I went there, it seemed like a nice place. It's more for folks who need extra medical help. The staff knew their stuff and told us Mom didn't need that much care. It costs a bit more because of the extra care they offer.

"Mixed Bag, Room for Improvement"
Our time here has been okay. They seem to be taking good care of our parent. The place looks nice, but they don't keep the apartment very clean. It's getting better, though. Dealing with the residency contract was really annoying - kind of shady.

"Good option"
We moved my parents into a 2-bedroom unit (which was hard to find) last week. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. The place is clean, odor-free, and safe. We expected better food based on the great reviews we read. The apartment had some issues that should’ve been fixed before move-in, but they were slow to address them until the right maintenance person stepped in. It’s only been 6 days, but I’m confident my parents will be happy once they get used to senior community living. I hope they join the activities offered. The staff truly cares.

"Getting Settled In"
I'm finally getting settled into the community and things are going well. Everything is fine for me and I really like this community. The staff is great—they are very helpful and kind. There are good activities here. I'd give the food 3 stars because I think they could have a healthier selection. I'm happy and feel very comfortable here.

"Assisted Living Facility Fails to Provide Promised Care"
At first, we thought this was an ideal spot for Mom and Dad to enjoy their later years. How wrong we were! Initially, things seemed alright, but quickly deteriorated and have remained poor for the entire year they've been there. Assisted living is important to reduce the strain on Mom, who has been caring for Dad's medical needs. His condition needs regular attention and it can get really bad if neglected. Despite tons of meetings with the director of nursing (there have been three this year and maybe a fourth), and other staff members, they still can't handle his needs properly. They have said sorry and vowed to improve, but nothing has changed. Moreover, they no longer assist Dad in getting dressed in the mornings, but we are still billed for these services. The director claims the care has been consistent all along. Mom struggles with depression and anxiety, and we were assured the staff would consider this and not make things worse. Despite this, she has been repeatedly told the facility has run out of supplies, causing unnecessary stress and panic as she worries about Dad's care. We are charged for these supplies then told to buy them ourselves. Mom has also been upset by staff inaccurately claiming Dad's condition is deteriorating. Why would they say that? The one positive aspect is the physical and occupational therapy which has been beneficial. Their resident doctor also disappoints. She barely spends time with patients, disregards family input, and refuses to communicate. Construction at the facility started shortly after our parents moved in. Completion dates keep shifting, and there is no end in sight. I suspect this is the cause of the hiked rates. The constant noise and mess negatively impact the residents' quality of life. Parking has become a nightmare with staff cars blocking the main entrance while Dad struggles to walk. Mom enjoys the bingo games, but instead of getting a chance to play, staff pressures her into calling the bingo. This place is far from offering real assistance. We have to supply medical equipment, cope with exacerbated health issues, and fight for the care we pay for in an environment that is nearly unlivable, with the minimal staff on duty regularly overworked. Many nurses are caring, capable, and well-intentioned, but they are too few and are forced to postpone care, if they provide it at all.

"Amazing care, friendly staff, great food!"
They've done an amazing job at Waterside! I can't say enough great things about them—they brought my mom back to life! The staff are all super friendly and really care about everyone who lives here. The place is clean and well-maintained, and they offer so much to the residents. The food is delicious, well-balanced, and healthy. My mom is eating better and even lost a little weight! We highly recommend Waterside to anyone searching for senior care in the area!
