Atria Tamarac - Assisted Living

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"
The biggest issue is that they don't have enough staff to help residents promptly. The people living there are friendly, but the food is terrible. The facility is cozy and easy to navigate, but they need more diverse activities. The initial person you meet is great, but it's a bit disappointing.

"Poor Communication and Unwarranted Charges at Wickshire"
Our experience at Wickshire was terrible. My mother-in-law previously lived in the Park Summit, which was a good place, but we had to move her out because they didn't have proper security and they kept calling us saying that she was lost. We moved her to next, and it was a suitable place for her until it was converted into Wickshire. Then, everything turned for the worst. We struggled to get in touch with the administration. The director and the manager brushed us off when we finally got a hold of them, claiming that Wickshire is different from Atria. We had no choice but to move her out once again. Even after giving a 30-day notice and leaving the room in a better condition than we found it, they still charged us an extra month's boarding. We've been trying to get our money refunded since , but none of the employees have taken any action. The director and manager refuse to answer our calls and the accounting department is unresponsive to our emails. We're left with no other avenues for communication. We deeply regret placing her at Wickshire.

"Clean but lacking warmth: Wickshire Tamarac review"
We visited Wickshire Tamarac and it was super clean. But, I didn't feel that cozy vibe I was hoping for.

"Family-friendly atmosphere, food service needs improvement"
It's been good so far. Everyone is friendly and tries to involve our family member. She feels safe and well cared for. Her main issue is that the food isn't served hot. The weekly menu on the family app hasn't been updated since early August, making it hard to verify her complaints. It would be great to see that improved. Everyone's preferences vary when choosing a place, and overall, we've had a positive experience.

"Clean, Safe, and Home-Like Assisted Living Facility"
I've been trying for a few weeks to get some information. I have a question about my loved one's care, which isn't urgent, but I'd like to know, and they haven't gotten back to me. Besides that, we have no complaints. She's doing very well - we think she's in a good, safe, and clean place. The facility is smaller, which makes it feel more like home. I would recommend it to other families looking.

"Limited Activities, Suitable for Assisted Living, Better Options for Dementia"
My family member enjoys the care and staff here. They lack activities, which drew us here. I recommend it for assisted living needs. For dementia, consider a place with more stimulating activities.

"Mixed Experience at Wickshire Assisted Living"
Everyone was friendly, and it felt like a cozy community. Despite Covid, they kept the activities going. However, be cautious before moving in. We relied on a recommendation from the rehab center where our loved one was transitioning from. Unfortunately, Wickshire couldn’t meet her higher care needs, so we had to relocate. Overall, the place treated us well.

"Mixed Experience: Pleasant Tour, Lacking Safety Measures for Mom"
I had a really nice tour of this place. Everybody was nice to me and my family. The place looked really good, everything was super clean. The people who work there were nice and friendly. The person who showed us around was nice and told us lots of helpful stuff. They answered my questions. But I was worried because my mom needs special safety things because of her condition. This place didn't have all the safety stuff I needed for my mom.

"Falls handlings discouraged me"
The staff here are pretty friendly, and they have some stuff for folks to do. The meals are alright, but overall, I'm not thrilled with this place. My family member took a couple of tumbles and ended up in the hospital. When he was there, the folks here told us he couldn't come back because they couldn't give him all the care he needed. They said we should get a full-time caregiver. Even though the place itself seems alright, I didn't like how they handled it all.

"Poor Attitude Spoils Facility Tour!"
The place was okay, but that wasn't the real issue. The lady who showed us around was just plain mean. She seemed annoyed every time we asked a question. If she treats us like this, I worry about how she treats the people living there.

"Adjusting to Good, Safe Assisted Living"
My mother-in-law is still settling in at this new assisted living community. It's a nice, secure place with friendly folks. On the whole, the staff is good. The place is beautiful, and though it's taking mom some time to get used to it, we're confident that she's well cared for and in a good place.

"Older Facility Close to the City Needs Renovation"
The place on University Drive isn't my favorite. It's too near the city. Plus, the building is pretty old and I think they should've fixed it up already.

"Very Impressive Dining Area"
We are very satisfied with this community. My mother has adjusted well. They do a good job keeping her room and the facility clean. The staff is great and keeps me informed. They are very responsive to my concerns. She stays busy with all the activities they offer. I'm very impressed with the food—the dining area is like a restaurant. She is receiving good care, and I would recommend it.

"Brookdale Place Review - Flexible Dining and Living Options"
This Brookdale place is good because it has both Independent and Assisted living, which is great for people like my parents who won't have to move when they become less able. Also, I liked how the dining room lets people eat whenever and wherever they want, instead of having to eat at specific times and places.

"High Cost, Low Care: Would Choose Differently"
The assisted living center is pretty decent and handy for me, seeing as it lies in between work and home. They keep the place alright, but when my mom's air conditioner had issues, it took them a while to fix it and they had to access the system through her bedroom closet. They didn't even have the courtesy to return her clothes that they moved aside for the repairs. If mom was still capable of tidying up her things, she wouldn't even be in an assisted living. The place isn't that bad if you can manage on your own. Some of the staff are really caring and willing to help, but there are also those that just couldn't care less. Mom pays extra for medication management, but they've been having problems with their supposedly modern system. Whenever mom has to go to hospital, they give the hospital her outdated medication list and then a revised one. Their system doesn't allow for the old list to be deleted. It once took four days at the hospital to resolve this mess, and in her latest ER visit, a lot of confusion was caused by unnecessary paperwork. I have to highlight that a recent system glitch caused a mess with mom's medication. When I asked about the sudden changes, they tried to blame it on the doc. I knew that was false, and only after pressing them, they revealed about the system glitch they already knew of. You would expect them to inform everyone so that they could keep an eye on things. I have a couple of pals up north with folks in similar facilities. When we discuss the services, it turns out my mom is paying more for less care. That's a letdown. Knowing what I do now, I would have chosen differently. But without trying another place, I can't tell whether this is the way it works everywhere here. I can only hope it's not this bad across the board. I've considered taking mom to a different facility, but I'm told a switch could be harmful for mom seeing as she has dementia.

"Overall, I loved this community!"
I toured this place, and it's really nice. It's clean, and the staff is friendly—everyone was super nice. The only thing I was disappointed about was that they didn't have a locked-down community when I first visited. But I understand they’ve switched to that since. The grounds were well-kept, and the whole community was clean. The dining room looked great, and they invited us to come back for a meal, but we didn't try it during the tour. They also had a lot of fun activities for the residents. Overall, I loved this community.

"NEGLECTFUL SENIOR FACILITY, DISREGARD SHOWN FOR RESIDENT'S HEALTH"
WATCH OUT! This place is seriously risky! My poor mom lived here. One day, I called them and asked them to gather her meds (eight of them) because I planned to pick her up the next day for an overnight visit. I showed up at about 6:30 PM that Friday night, expecting them to have her meds ready. But no! To my shock, a nurse (or maybe she was an aide?) told me they were COMPLETELY OUT OF ALL HER MEDS! Seriously, I could hardly believe it. They had faxed the doctor about this issue around 2:30 PM, but he hadn't responded yet. So they just left it like that. Did it cross their minds to CALL the doctor? Not!! How carelessly stupid can they be? And for how many days had my mom been missing her meds before this? It's pretty unlikely she ran out of all eight meds at the same time, right? She would've spent the entire weekend without her meds if I hadn't shown up. What I ended up having to do was track down the on-call doctor, and rush to the pharmacy before it shut for the day - all the while my mom missed her pre-planned dinner with old friends who had come from out of town specifically to meet her. She was upset. To top it all off, the next day I realized the staff had failed to give me the full list of her meds, so once again I had to contact the on-call doctor and go back to the pharmacy. When I complained to the manager of the facility, a guy called Adam Ort, he didn't seem to care at all. I even contacted the corporate offices of Brookdale (the company that owns the place), but they never bothered to call me back. Shows how much consideration they have for their residents! To add to all this, my mom has psoriasis on her scalp, elbows, and knees. She was in terrible shape - her skin was crusty, bloody, and insanely itchy because they hadn't been applying her medication. This place is shockingly neglectful and utterly disgusting. The AHCA even cited them for breaking rules and laws during an inspection and handed them a statement of deficiencies.

"BEWARE!! HORRIFIC CARE AND NEGLIGENCE AT FACILITY!!"
Warning! This assisted living place is a hazard! Don't send your family or anyone here!! My mom was a resident and she didn't even get her medication! I requested the nursing station on a Thursday for my mom's meds to be ready by Friday evening. I was planning to take her to dinner with her out-of-town pals, and she was supposed to stay with me that night. When I got there around 6:30 PM, I was told they had no meds for her - not one of her eight prescriptions! They claimed they had faxed the doctor at 2:30 PM but didn't get a response -- so they just forgot about it! They left it until the afternoon of a Friday to fax the doctor and didn't bother to follow up when he didn't reply. Plus, it's doubtful she would run out of all eight medications simultaneously. They likely didn't give them to her for several days. I had to call her doctor who had already left, track down the on-call doctor, go through her files, call the pharmacy, and fetch her meds. This delay made Mom miss dinner with her friends. She was really upset and so was I. The next day, I found out they didn't let me know about two more of her medications. I had to contact the doctor again and go back to the pharmacy. In addition, my mother's psoriasis on her scalp, knees, and elbows is in horrible condition. The areas were inflamed, scaly, itchy, and bleeding because they didn't apply her medication. When I tried to complain to the corporate offices, I never got a call back - not surprising, it seems they care only about money. The manager, Adam Ort, and the nurse I spoke with when I found out didn't show any concern - no apology, nothing!

"Great Assistance Through a Complicated Process"
This was our first time looking for an assisted living facility. The process was much more complicated than we thought, and it took several weeks to complete. The facility helped us a lot to get through this ordeal. The staff was very nice to deal with, and on move-in day, everyone greeted my mother and made her feel at home. I would highly recommend this facility and suggest you start the application process as soon as possible.
