"Terrible experience, nursing home neglect leads to family grief"

Nursing center staff made serious medication mistakes with my mom. I just filed another grievance after discovering my mom had bad sores on her lower stomach and groin from sitting wet. Right now, she's in the hospital after falling on Thursday afternoon and breaking her nose. This whole ordeal has been really heartbreaking to us as a family. We visit my mom more often than most residents' families, and I can't help but think the staff, including the directors, aren't quite fond of this. I can only say it's pretty disappointing that they'd let such an environment exist. It's really sad.

"Brentwood Memory Care: Disappointment and Lack of Stimulation"

Essentially, I'd never recommend memory care unless someone was completely incapacitated. My dad has severe dementia and Alzheimer's, but he knew he was locked up like a prisoner. It was a terrible experience. The memory care unit at Brentwood was a letdown, as my dad had few activities to engage in. I was told Brentwood was a top memory care facility, but it felt more like uneventful daycare, with barely anything to mentally stimulate him.

"Mixed Feelings on Brentwood Assisted Living Tour"

We visited Brentwood at Fore Ranch for a tour. It was okay, but kind of small. The bedrooms had only one window, and there were none in the living room or kitchenette area.

"Brentwood Assisted Living: Spacious Rooms and Caring Staff"

My family chose Brentwood because they needed two bathrooms and bedrooms. Most places didn't offer that. Brentwood combined two singles into a two-bedroom unit, which worked out well. The extra space makes them happy since assisted living rooms are usually small. The staff's kindness and responsiveness, especially the new administrator and Medical Director, keep them there. Many staff members genuinely love their work and have been very helpful to my parents and us.

"Attentive Staff and Clean Environment Ensure Dad's Comfort and Happiness"

The private rooms are kept very clean by the staff. They also clean the public areas often and watch out for spills or other problems. The staff is very friendly and takes time to know the residents well. My dad is there now needing just a little care, but they are very attentive when he needs something. My dad thinks the food is "good". The portions are generous, and he has gained some much-needed weight since he moved in. They offer many activities and entertainment for the residents. Some, like color therapy, aren't his thing, but he enjoys Happy Hours and game events. I think it's worth the money. They have a good ratio of staff to residents, and there are about 100 residents, so there's more personal interaction. He didn't want to move into a facility, but he's adjusting well, and the staff is a big reason for that.

"Excessive Guest Fee Disappoints Residents and Families"

My mom pays a lot to live here, but they charge $10 for guests to eat lunch with her. This isn't fair, especially for family. My son has trouble visiting grandma now because he couldn't afford $10, and the server made him feel bad. It's not right, and other residents agree.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short in Care and Maintenance"

My mom's room had a broken bathroom fan and moldy ceiling tiles for a while. In September, hot water stopped working for days, upsetting residents. Rooms look nice but floors peel, making it easy to trip. Food is okay. But, we worry about the staff and management. In three years, there were three different managers, and the position was empty when we left. One day, my mom had a stroke in her bathroom at Brentwood. She pressed her medical alert button, but no one came until 5:05 when my brother found her on the floor. An independent care manager told me Brentwood is good at getting people in but not at giving proper care.

"Inadequate Care and Filth in Assisted Living Facility"

This is the lousiest place I've ever encountered. My dear ones have experienced three distinct homes and this one's the pits. The surroundings are grimy and the majority of their workers are dreadful. I made a daily visit, only to be met with filth and laundry strewn around, soiled diapers on the bed, and such. Food would be delivered right to the room and their disposable dishes remained there with no staff to tidy up. Supposedly, housekeeping was due on Fridays, but it never took place as scheduled due to their lack of personnel. On top of that, my loved one wasn't given her shower on the promised days. I reported these issues to higher-ups, but nothing came out of it. All in all, it was a terribly negative experience and I can't endorse this place to others on a similar quest.

"Friendly, Clean Assisted Living with Plenty of Activities"

They were nice and friendly. My family member didn’t enjoy the food, but there were lots of activities. We chose this place because the sales staff and overall attitude were great. The dining room had a nice view, and the location was convenient. The staff were laid-back and really realistic about the residents. Overall, it was very clean, quiet, and had plenty of things for residents to do.

"Great place to recommend, no complaints!"

I've told a few people about them. I really don't have any complaints.

"Friendly Staff and Good Meals for Residents"

I suggest visiting the community to see if it fits your loved one. The staff have been really nice to deal with. There are three meals served each day in the dining area for residents, and they can choose from different options.

"Spacious Facility with Exemplary Staff, Cleanliness Concerns"

We had a great tour at Brentwood at Fore Ranch. The staff were excellent. We didn't choose it because it's large and two stories; Mom needed a smaller, single-level place. We also noticed a urine smell, not as clean as other places we visited.

"Mixed feelings about assisted living, some positives and negatives"

The people who work here are nice. The place looks good, but it's not super clean. They didn't handle the medicine well. They have lots of things to do. My family member loves the lady who sings and plays guitar. The food and service in the dining room were good. The staff there were very nice and caring. They made sure everyone got what they needed.

"Great tour, but not in our budget"

Our tour of Brentwood was really good. It's a beautiful place, and our tour guide was great. We decided on a different community because Brentwood was out of our budget and farther away than the one we picked.

"Lack of Room Phone Isolates Brentwood Assisted Living Resident"

Two weeks ago, a family friend moved into Brentwood from a nearby rehab center after breaking his hip. He's been living at Brentwood for a full two weeks now, all without a working landline in his room. Despite my best efforts to alert the staff about this multiple times, the problem still has not been solved. The staff confirmed that there is no phone jack in his room. Apparently, a local cable company handles the phones and Brentwood's bosses have mentioned a "hardware" issue causing the lack of phone service in his room. Meanwhile, our 88-year-old friend, who doesn't have a cell phone, is stuck wheeling himself around in his wheelchair just to use a phone in the staff's office or at the reception desk. This situation has made him feel alone and cut off. Also, Brentwood calls itself a luxury facility but they served macaroni and cheese as the main food dish. These are just a couple of potential issues we've spotted at this place. So before you decide to move your loved one here, be sure to visit the facility, especially during a meal and remember to check if simple things like a landline phone are included.

"Beautiful facility with great rooms and helpful staff"

This place is beautiful and pretty new, but it's full with no open spots right now. The manager really knew a lot and answered all our questions. The rooms are a good size, set up nicely, and each has a window. After the tour, they gave us a delicious lunch. Very impressive!

"Brentwood during Hurricane Irma"

I stayed with my parents at Brentwood at Fore Ranch during Hurricane Irma in Ocala, FL. I was amazed by how organized and dedicated the staff was, making sure everyone got the best care, even during the storm. My parents have lived here for a year and a half, and I've always been impressed with the facility and care. But after seeing how they handled a natural disaster, I know for sure that Brentwood was the right choice. The building is strong—I didn’t even hear the storm. There was a short power outage, but the generators ran for 14 hours until power was fully restored.

"So happy with her care!"

I am very impressed with the Brentwood facility. After working with [staff] for over a year and visiting many other memory care places, I chose to take my beautiful wife to this wonderful facility. She is in the late stages of Alzheimer’s disease and has been there for about six weeks. The staff is fantastic and very caring. My wife is doing better now than when I moved her there. The workers are there because they care, not just for the money. They know her name and genuinely want her to be well. The place is always clean, and the food is terrific. I do not worry about her because I know she is getting the best care. Both [directors] are very accessible. They are just as helpful after you become a resident as they were before. I am confident that moving my wife there was the right decision.

"A Wonderful Place for Senior Care"

This place is really nice. The food is good, and I was happy with my meal. The community is clean and beautiful. They have lots of fun activities for residents. Families should visit to see if it's right for loved ones.

"Dad Enjoying Life at Assisted Living Facility"

My dad seems really content in this place. the employees are friendly and always helping him out with whatever he needs. The place itself is kept really neat and clean. The food’s great-they have a good mix of different dishes. He also enjoys chatting with the other folks there. They have some fun activities to do as well. We'd suggest this place to other families - it's worth it and they take good care of people.

"Kudos to the Team"

Many thanks to her, in charge of wellness at Brentwood. After two issues with my dad, it was refreshing to deal with someone with a comprehensive and logical care plan. He has transitioned well, and I thank Laura and the staff for that.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living"

The food is amazing, and the staff is really helpful. However, my mom's paperwork got lost. It seems my doctor was moving, and the paperwork never made it to the nurses' station.

"Supportive staff and caring environment!"

When I first visited, my parents were in a different facility we weren't happy with. My 16-year-old daughter and I dropped by unannounced and were met by a wonderful staff. [Name] showed us around and introduced us to some team members, including one of the owners, [Name]. As we left, my daughter said, “This is the place.” My wife, daughter, and I returned again, unannounced, and received the same warm welcome. We decided to move my parents in, and we couldn’t be more pleased. The staff was attentive, helpful, patient, and caring as they dealt with two patients who had dementia and Alzheimer's. When my daughter passed away suddenly, the staff was very understanding and helped keep her death a secret to protect her grandparents. My father passed away later, and [Name] and [Name] and their staff were incredibly supportive of my family and my mother, who felt lost without her husband of 62 years. Mom became ill and was briefly hospitalized, then released to hospice care. [Name] and his team stepped up and cared for her until her peaceful end.

"Nice spot for seniors."

They’re doing well, but there’s room for improvement.

""

It’s a really nice place and mostly a good fit for mom. But like anywhere, it’s important to visit and keep an eye on the care she gets. A place is only as good as the staff working there.

"So thankful for the wonderful staff!"

I want to give 5 stars to Brentwood and the amazing staff. My brother and I moved our parents there in [] and have been very happy with their care. The staff is super friendly, which makes me happy—I feel like they really enjoy being there too. I especially want to thank [], the Director of Nursing, for the fantastic job she does every day. I feel like she knows and loves my parents almost as much as I do. She always makes sure to answer all my questions. I don’t worry about my parents thanks to her and her caring staff. Thank you, Laura! And Lynn, you are great too!

"Great care and friendly staff!"

We are happy with the great care and friendly staff! They are always caring and attentive. My dad loves chatting with the staff about politics and the Navy. I notice that this community is clean. Since my dad is in memory care, he has his meals chosen for him. When we visit, we take him to the dining room where he can pick from options. We are pleased with everything!

"Brentwood's Care Slides Downhill: Short Staff, Poor Food, Long Waits."

Brentwood at Fore Ranch, once a fair place for elder care, doesn't cut it anymore. They never have enough helpers around. The food they feed the people living there isn't good; they often serve the same stuff within a week. I wouldn't tell anyone to bring their family here. Because there aren't enough helpers, folks living there don't get the care they need. They seriously need some fresh bosses.

"Wonderful community with caring staff and great activities!"

Brentwood is a clean community with beautiful scenery. It's a great place to live. The food is tasty, and they even had a fun Fourth of July party. The staff cares about the residents' well-being. The doctor and head nurse are wonderful, and the head nurse is very professional, always checking on the residents. The staff encourages residents to join in daily activities and treats them with respect.

"A Fantastic Place to Live"

My husband and I visited this place recently, and it’s amazing. We’re moving my mother-in-law here from California. The staff were friendly, caring, and seemed to know all the residents. The place is clean, well-kept, and the residents look very happy. I wish I could live here!

Brentwood requires a change in leadership and I'm planning to alert state authorities.

"A beautiful, friendly place to live!"

My father moved in from Hospice. Sadly, he was there only a month before he passed. We found it beautiful, clean, and friendly. I just wish he could’ve stayed longer to enjoy it. It’s a wonderful place!!

"Great care and responsible staff at Brentwood"

The facility changed owners and the new management is fantastic. This change has really made me feel confident in the quality of care and how responsible the staff are. The staff's hands-on care, especially in memory care, has been wonderful. After seeing all the changes at Brentwood over the years, I can say I fully trust the level of care and the great team they have now.

"High Costs, Poor Service at Pretty Facility"

I definitely wouldn't recommend this assisted living facility to anybody! The folks in charge seemed more interested in arguing than in resolving any concerns. Make sure you get all agreements down on paper, no matter how small the detail. Sure, the place looks nice, but when you're shelling out big bucks, attractiveness won't cut it.

"Mixture of Greatness and Challenges at New Facility"

It was a bit of a mix with this place. It's shiny and new with some great people. But there were also some issues we ran into. Trying to get a reply or get stuff done was tough. They're still figuring things out and need more time to tackle their issues.

"Great place for my parents!"

My parents are happy and settled here! Brentwood at Fore Ranch does a fantastic job, and I would give them top marks all around! They offer great value and even have fully furnished apartments for just $100 more than the regular price. I really appreciate that my parents can live together, even though they need different types of care. I would highly recommend this community to others!

""High Staff Turnover, They Kicked Out My Family Member""

They kept changing all the staff – from the boss right down to the daily helpers. They couldn't keep people long. This constant change made things worse for my family member and led to his upset moods and anger. In the end, they told him to leave.

"Very nice community!"

The community was really nice. It was brand new and had a lovely building. The price was too high for us. It was clean, and the staff was friendly. Overall, it was a very nice community and worth a visit.

"Steer Clear of Brentwood's Illusion, High Price yet Low Care"

Avoid Brentwood at Fore Ranch at all costs! It may look nice on the outside, but don't let the outer appearance fool you. Upper management here doesn't give much attention to the care of their residents. My dad, who has diabetes, was given foods filled with sugar which led to health complications when he fell several times. Despite the falls, they never caught his cracked rib from the x-rays. They also had issues with his medication since their pharmacy is pretty lousy. The Executive Director showed no respect to my wife, and the Marketing Director falsely advertises it as some sort of paradise for senior citizens. The owner, who happens to have diabetes himself, claims they have specific meal plans for diabetics, but there's no truth in that. Brentwood is just an expensive place that has brought my father more suffering than comfort. Their neglect and disregard for patient care is the major reason I tell people to stay away from this place. The lower-level workers and nurse aides do the best they can, but there's only so much they can do when upper management is more focused on money than patient care. Ever since my dad left in March, they haven't even bothered to call and check on him. I deeply regret ever putting my father in this facility. So, don't buy into their hype.
