"Friendly Staff, Improving Activities, Needs Better Orientation and Family Communication"
I think this place, like most, has a problem with not enough staff. My mom stays upstairs in assisted living. The nurses have all been really nice and kind. I've never felt like my mom wasn't safe there. Downstairs, they always have a lot of activities, but recently they started doing more upstairs, which I love because sometimes my mom doesn't want to go downstairs. When I look back to when she first got there, there was quite a bit they didn't tell us during orientation, so you have to figure out a lot of things on your own, though you can always ask questions. One thing I wish they did was to schedule times for families to talk about how they're taking care of the residents, at least in assisted living. I think that would be good for me and my mom.

"Great Place for Independent and Assisted Living"
I visited the Brookdale on Monday. The one-bedroom apartments have full kitchens and balconies, and they allow pets. They provide two meals a day. You can choose between independent and assisted living. The grounds are pretty and there are many activities to do each day.

"Mom Loves This Community"
My mom is enjoying her time in this community. It's working out well for her and her needs. I know she's safe and in good hands. The staff is pleasant, and they keep the place clean. There are plenty of activities for residents, and the food is delicious. She's doing great since moving here, and I highly recommend it.

"Tour for mom's care!"
We visited this community for care. The staff were friendly and could answer our questions about the care they provide. The place was clean inside and out. They have a nice menu of meals to choose from. The activities would have been great for my mom. We recommend this community for taking care of a loved one.

"A Bit Too Large for Our Liking"
This place seemed nice and clean when I visited. The folks I met were friendly and ready to assist. However, it's a big community, and it felt like residents had to wait in line for meals.

"Not Ideal for Assisted Living"
This place is old, and the assisted living area feels dark, dingy, and dirty. However, the food is excellent, and the staff are nice. The independent living area is clean. Unfortunately, it's not suitable for assisted living.

"Great place for independent living, highly recommended"
My dad enjoys living in this community's independent area. They provide two meals a day, which he finds delicious. The staff is friendly and ready to help. They were patient and answered all my questions when I asked. There are activities every day and transportation available to nearby stores, restaurants, and other places. If he needs assistance, he can get it for a small fee. I suggest doing some research to see if this community suits your loved one.

"A Welcoming Home"
I enjoy living in this friendly community. They serve meals every day, or I can cook for myself. The staff is kind, caring, and attentive. They organize many activities for residents who want to join in with others. I recommend checking out this community as a great place to call home.

"Inefficient Facility for Active Memory Care Patients."
This facility shouldn't be chosen for memory care patients who're physically active! They're ill-equipped to manage such residents. My 90-year old father, an Alzheimer's patient was unceremoniously asked to leave following his aggressive behavior. Further adding to our discontent, the Brookdale staff dialed 911 when he showed upset over being woken up at 6 in the morning. The staff sheltered themselves in a storage room until the police showed up! This is no way to provide care for the elderly!

"Best Choice for Upbeat and Caring Assisted Living"
My mom is moving in next week, and we checked out a lot of assisted living places around here. Island Lake stood out the most because it's lively, friendly, and has lots of activities. It's also great because they offer different levels of care if my mom needs them in the future. One thing I really liked is their Freshman Program. New residents get a guide to help them get settled, which lasts for three months. This helps my mom learn about the services, meet staff, and make new friends. The apartment is the biggest and most comfortable one I found. She’ll have a one-bedroom with a den, a screened patio, and a full kitchen if she wants to cook. We’re excited about the move! Every place has its own vibe, and Island Lake’s is definitely positive and caring.

One Tired Family
"Terrific amenities and residents, terrible management."
The park-like area, dining room, and pool at this assisted living facility are awesome. The people living here are wonderful, too! But, the care offered could be way better. The personalized care service only offers caregivers for half an hour at a time, and while they're kind, they lack skills. The assisted living staff just isn't enough, so lots of folks end up hiring extra help, on top of what they already pay for their lodging and care here. The boss running this place doesn't effectively handle problems and mostly just offers empty promises. The food used to be really good for a while but now, Brookdale is less interested in quality and more in money. Unfortunately, the chow and care level have been getting worse since 2015. The big corporate office doesn't really respond to complaints. It's not right to take advantage of seniors this way. There's no way for anyone to check the quality on the first and third floors because they're set up for independent living. Also, there's basically no security. Anybody can stroll in from the back area or through a resident's personal space. This used to be the best spot in town and it could be great again if the big company's greed and lackluster management was fixed.

"Very inviting, I would recommend this place!"
My parents are really happy at Brookdale Island Lake! We chose this place because it felt friendlier than the others we visited. It is very inviting. Although it is expensive for the services, I feel good knowing my parents aren't alone. The staff is there to help when needed, and the community is supportive. I would recommend this facility; it’s perfect for my parents and has a cozy feeling. The inside is lovely, and the on-site maintenance is great.

"Great place with excellent food and friendly staff!"
We visited this community while exploring care options for a loved one. I was super impressed with everything! It’s a beautiful, clean, and well-maintained place, and the staff were all really friendly. Plus, the food was the best we tried at any of the places we visited! The only downside was that the available room was too far from the dining and common areas. Mom would have had to walk a lot every day.

"A Wonderful Choice for Our Mom's Care and Happiness"
My mom didn't want to leave her home, but my brothers and I were worried about her living alone. We got her to visit several places nearby, with help from A Place for Mom. She chose Chambrel because she loved the rooms, especially the separate kitchen and balcony. The staff and residents were all really friendly and helpful. Mom has been living at Chambrel for about 6 weeks now, and she’s enjoying the people, activities, and the fact that she can use the Chambrel van for shopping and other trips. She had to stop driving 6 months ago, so living alone without a car was tough for her. My brothers and I feel much better knowing she’s in a nice place where she’s well taken care of. Before moving to Chambrel, Mom was losing weight because she wasn’t eating well. Now, she has a light breakfast in her room and two full meals at lunch and dinner. She says the food is great, and she likes talking with her meal companions. The medical team at Chambrel keeps in touch with Mom’s doctor, so we know they’re managing her health needs. This really comforts our family. I highly recommend Chambrel for anyone trying to figure out the best care for a loved one.

"A Better Quality of Life for Mom"
My mother has only been at Chambrel for a few days, but she feels very welcome. She chose Chambrel because she liked the one-bedroom apartment. She could bring her favorite furniture from home, and she says it feels less foreign with her comfortable belongings around her. I had dinner with her one night, and we both enjoyed the food. Our waitress was cheerful and friendly. Joyce Smith, a resident ambassador at Chambrel, has been kind to my mother by eating with her and introducing her to other residents. Another resident even invited my mom to help local elementary students with their reading. My mother didn't want to leave her home, but my brothers and I knew her life would be better at Chambrel. After just a few days, I think she's starting to see that too. Thank you, Chambrel! We are so grateful for your caring staff.

"Great place with good food and activities available!"
It was a really nice place. My mother isn’t there anymore, but she liked it a lot. The food was good! The building was very nice too. There were activities available, but I don’t think she participated in any of them. That was her choice.

"Activity-Rich Assisted Living: Good Value with Some Quirks"
This place is nice. Compared to others, the price is good. My mom stays in independent living. I feel they advertise the nurse service too much. They claim there's a nurse available 24/7, but sometimes they're not. Mom complains about the food, but I found it tasty when I visited. Overall, it's a smart choice. They offer physical activities, movies, bridge, and water aerobics. They organize outings like dinners, shopping, and church. The activity schedule is always full.
