"Nice place, but too small and no apartments"

Our family had an in-person tour with Brookdale Melbourne, and it seemed nice, but the community was too small and only had one-room options, no apartments.

"Disappointing Visit to Brookdale Melbourne Assisted Living Facility"

My family visited Brookdale Melbourne. We didn't like it. It seemed dirty, dark, and staff weren't attentive. The tour guide was inexperienced.

"Mixed Experience at Brookdale Assisted Living"

Brookdale seemed nice at first, but I'm glad I went back for a second visit. It was a totally different experience. The residents were just sitting around in the hallway, and there weren't many staff members visible. Plus, there was a bad smell throughout the facility.

"Assisted Living Facility Review: Pleasant but Too Independent for Needs"

This community was nice. It felt more independent than what our loved one needed.

"Nice Staff, Needs Better Food and More Personal Time"

The place has a lovely outdoor area that’s really pretty. The people working here are super kind and always ready to help. But they’re often too busy to spend much one-on-one time with the folks living here. Also, it would be great if the meals were a bit tastier.

"Tour Was Nice but Facility Seemed Empty"

Our family visited the assisted living facility in person for a tour. It was a pleasant experience overall, but we didn't see many people around. There weren't many residents or staff visible during our visit.

"Friendly Staff, But Facility Lacks Warmth and Maintenance"

I visited Brookdale Melbourne, and it’s definitely been around for a while. It was clean enough, but it didn’t have that cozy, ‘at-home’ feeling. I wish it felt more like a professional place. The building seemed pretty old and maybe not kept up the best. It didn’t really wow me. However, everyone working there was super nice. The lady I talked to was great. But, there was this one person living there who kept tagging along with us, which was kinda weird for me. Plus, it was a lot tinier than the place we ended up picking.

"Friendly staff and good overall experience despite some food issues"

We chose Brookdale Melbourne because several people recommended it to us, and we also heard positive things from families and caregivers who worked there. When we arrived, we felt very comfortable. If we had to mention one issue, it would be the food, which could use some improvement. My mother is a bit picky about food, so that might be part of it. There was also a problem with her apartment flooding, and she had to pay for things she couldn't use. Despite these issues, the people here are incredibly friendly. Most staff and residents seem happy, and we have been very satisfied overall. We always recommend Brookdale Melbourne to others.

"Great place with friendly staff and cozy, easy-to-navigate rooms"

I was really pleased with our time at Brookdale Melbourne. It felt very warm and homey. Everything is on one level, so it’s easy to get around. The rooms were lovely, and we were happy with them. Whenever we had questions during her stay, the staff would stop what they were doing to help us. They were always professional and friendly. I would definitely recommend this place to others.

"Extra Costs Add Up"

At this place, you gotta pay for everything separately. It's like they nickel and dime you for every little thing.

"Availability Check Needed Before Touring"

Our online visit to Brookdale Melbourne was good. When compared to another facility, the staff there seemed a bit quicker to respond. Unfortunately, Brookdale Melbourne didn't have the space we required. I suggest families check availability before visiting. Reflecting on my experience, that's what I'd have done differently.

"Mixed Experience: Friendly Community, Mediocre Food"

I really like the community. It's friendly, and the room is comfy for my loved one. The staff has been great. However, the food isn't good; my loved one found it bland. Still, I'd recommend this community to others.

"Mixed experience at Brookdale Melbourne; concern over Wave Crest affiliation."

We didn’t choose Brookdale Melbourne because it’s linked with Wave Crest in Melbourne, which was really bad. They tried to charge me too much and denied that two other ladies were in the same room as my loved one. They hardly checked on her. The staff was mean, yelling at me. It looked old but clean. Some people were nice, but mostly it was awful. No phone in her room, so I couldn't talk to her. When I called, I was put on hold for 30 minutes, and still couldn’t talk to her. They didn’t tell me about her health. I wouldn’t even put a biting dog there. The food was terrible; she lost over 20 pounds. At Brookdale, it looked clean, and people were friendly. They have private rooms, very clean and nice. It's pet friendly. Despite no big red flags on our tour, the Wave Crest link worried us a lot.

"Feels More Like a Nursing Home, Lacks Comprehensive Information"

They didn't seem ready for my visit and all they gave me were basics about the rooms. This place actually felt more like a nursing home than an assisted living community.

"Average Facility, Lacking Brain-Stimulating Activities for Dementia Care"

It's an okay place. I was hoping for activities that challenge the mind for dementia patients, but I didn't see any. It seems fine for basic living assistance and they accept Medicaid.

"Less Than Impressive Visit, Facility Not The Right Fit"

I wasn't really pleased with my visit to this place. When I talked to the person showing us around, they said they were first thinking of having my dad live with help. Then they'd move him to a different part of the building if necessary. I really didn't want to have to move him again after settling him in. All in all, this just wasn't the right place for us.

""Everything Seemed Just Fine""

The community on offer was really great. The person showing me around was very detailed and answered all my questions. They even called me again later. I didn't notice any issues with the place, the people, or the vibe.

"Extremely poor condition: Unfit for mom's stay!!"

I felt somewhat let down by the poor upkeep of this community. It almost seemed like the staff and property managers stopped caring about the place. The carpets were in terrible condition and the wall paint was peeling off. It also appeared a lot of repair work needed to be done which was being overlooked. This is simply not a place I'd like for my mom to reside in.

"My Sister Thrives in the Community"

My sister is doing great at this community. Everything has gone smoothly since her move. The staff helped her settle in well, and I feel confident she’s safe and well-cared for. They’ve been wonderful to work with, and I’m pleased with their efforts.

"Decent assisted living, improving comfort for mom, minor issues."

Mom's doing pretty good. Not much wrong, though she's complained about waiting for help with bathing once. My brother thinks it's great. Staff seem to be trying their best to make Mom comfortable. Overall, it's a decent place, and we're happy with it.

"Unpleasant Odor and Poor Maintenance at Elder Care Facility"

The area had a pretty heavy odor, much like what you'd expect from an old folks' home. The employees were nice, though. The activities room was in the middle of repairs, and their computer was out of order. They mentioned they've got a new one but it's not hooked up yet. Overall, it didn't seem like they take great care of the place.

"Need More Activities and Entertainment at This Facility"

I wish they had more crafts, music, and live shows. Sometimes, socializing should have some wine or beer. The folks here need more active things to do. They need stuff to keep them busy, engaged, and alert.

"Nice place, overall"

I believe Brookdale Melbourne does a good job overall. They've been helpful with my loved one, and the facility is clean. My only concern is communication.

"A Great Place for Seniors to Live"

We checked out this community while searching for a place for a loved one. It was super clean, and the staff was really friendly. The residents looked happy, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. I would feel great about my mom living here. They answered all my questions, too!

"A wonderful place for my mom to live happily!"

This community was super clean. The staff was really friendly, and the residents seemed very happy. The atmosphere was nice, and I would feel great about my mom living here. They answered all my questions too!

"Together until the end!"

My mom and dad moved in during August 2012. They were welcomed and allowed to stay together after 70 years of marriage. My dad was under hospice care, and other facilities wanted him in skilled nursing and my mom in assisted living. But we, along with Emeritus staff, agreed they must stay together. The Emeritus staff supported their lives together, giving us two more wonderful months with both of them surrounded by family.

"Puzzlingly Slow Dining Room Service"

My family member has been living here for a few months and we're still deciding if it'll be permanent. She has to wait around half an hour to 45 minutes for each meal in the dining area. No idea why the dining staff can't move a bit quicker.

"Very happy with this assisted living facility!"

I’m really happy with this place! It’s super clean, and the staff is really friendly and helpful. They do a great job communicating and keeping up with any concerns. There are lots of activities, and while more would be nice, there’s still plenty to do. We chose this facility because they were open to discussing everything with me and really went the extra mile to make sure it was a good fit for us.

"Nice Place with Excellent Memory Care and Active Residents"

I thought this place was pretty nice and full of energy. I especially loved their Memory Care services. The director there really seems to know what she's doing. Plus, the staff is always alert and attentive to the residents. It's great that they have plenty of activities to stop residents from declining further.

"Nice place with friendly staff, simply understaffed."

My mom is blind and sometimes has issues when the staff forgets to take her back to her room after meals or activities. The staff is super friendly and helpful, but they really need more employees. When I call, I wait up to 10 minutes for someone to answer, and sometimes it takes 20 more minutes for my mom to get to the phone. They handle laundry and room cleaning as part of the monthly fee. Some residents complain about the repetitive meals, even though there are choices. Despite this, there's nothing so negative that would make my mom want to move. She's receiving physical and occupational therapy. The single-floor building works well for her. Many activities are planned, but due to her blindness, my mom struggles to participate. Emeritus also hosts a happy hour on Fridays and encourages families to join in all activities.

"Emeritus of Melbourne: A Pleasant Assisted Living Option with Friendly Staff"

Emeritus of Melbourne is a pretty place with lots of trees for shade. The community is nice, with a big dining room that opens to a nice courtyard. The rooms are a good size and the staff is really nice. The people who live there seem really happy. The memory care unit did have a smell, but the people there seemed taken care of. We picked a different place for my mom, but I think you should go see Emeritus. We looked at 6 places and Emeritus was one of them. The Exec Director, is really nice and helpful. She's friendly and patient and ready to help the residents.

"Emeritus Delights Residents with Care and Courtyard"

My mom stays at Emeritus and seems really happy. Everyone is super friendly, and I think she's getting great care. She enjoys the food a lot, too. They have a lovely courtyard to sit outside.

"Friendly Place, Just Needs Better Nursing and Food"

The place looks tidy and nice and the staff is super friendly. They keep things pretty clean around here. Good stuff! But there's room for improvement too. Thing is, they need to keep a closer eye on their patients, kind of like nursing care. Plus, the food needs to get better – it's what my dear one told me.

"Ideal Place for Mom"

I liked this place very much. It seemed like a perfect fit for my mom. I liked that it was all on one floor, so she doesn’t have to use elevators. It was clean and attractive and felt more cozy. I’m working on getting my mom to live there.

"Poor Communication Causes Concern at Assisted Living Facility"

It was quite a thing to see. The lady I was meant to meet with, she saw me waiting in the main lobby. After seeing me, she chose to go into another office with two ladies and they all sat there chatting for what felt like forever. When she eventually left the office, she ignored me and spoke to someone else instead. I decided to leave, and she came running after me. But I wouldn't dare have my mom stay there. They definitely struggle with communicating.

"Friendly Staff"

The Emeritus assisted living facility was really nice, but the price was better at Sterling House. The staff at Emeritus was super friendly. There was a busy girl doing paperwork who dropped everything to show us around. Unfortunately, the rainy day made the whole building look gloomy. They showed us the spa area for my mom, but I thought it looked more like a storage unit.

"Financial Challenges Despite Desirable Assisted Living"

The assisted living place is really nice. But, getting help with Medicaid benefits might be hard at first.
