"Disappointing Experience at Brookdale Paddock Hills Assisted Living Facility"
My family member stayed at Brookdale Paddock Hills, and it wasn't good. Communication was poor. Staff couldn't make residents bathe if they refused. My loved one wore the same clothes for five days and got sores. We had to bring in Home Health to help. Then, she got Covid and things got worse. It was hard to get pain relief. They'd give meds when I was there, but not when I left. Her health declined rapidly. We hired a sitter who kept her clean for five days. The head nurse said pain meds would be changed, but they didn't inform the med tech. The sitter called me at 3 AM because my loved one was moaning and praying for help. There's more, but that's enough. I don't recommend this place, and I feel guilty for not moving my loved one. She passed away quickly in the end.

"Assisted Living: Beware Empty Rooms"
Assisted Living isn't right for people who need help with everything, even if the paperwork claims otherwise. Make sure to carefully review the contract before signing, and check for empty rooms—that's a warning sign.

My husband has lived here since March 2018. He has adjusted well because of the good care. He has congestive heart failure and mild dementia. I highly recommend this place for loving care.

"Supportive staff and caring environment!"
When I first visited, my parents were in a different facility we weren't happy with. My 16-year-old daughter and I dropped by unannounced and were met by a wonderful staff. [Name] showed us around and introduced us to some team members, including one of the owners, [Name]. As we left, my daughter said, “This is the place.” My wife, daughter, and I returned again, unannounced, and received the same warm welcome. We decided to move my parents in, and we couldn’t be more pleased. The staff was attentive, helpful, patient, and caring as they dealt with two patients who had dementia and Alzheimer's. When my daughter passed away suddenly, the staff was very understanding and helped keep her death a secret to protect her grandparents. My father passed away later, and [Name] and [Name] and their staff were incredibly supportive of my family and my mother, who felt lost without her husband of 62 years. Mom became ill and was briefly hospitalized, then released to hospice care. [Name] and his team stepped up and cared for her until her peaceful end.

"Loved the staff and felt at home!"
Even though this place wasn’t as fancy as others I’ve seen, I loved the staff. The facility was clean, and I felt at home. There was a real warmth between the staff and the patients. In short, I decided to move in, and I’ll be moving there just after mid.

"Great Care for New Residents"
My mom is a new resident here. She moved in during the hurricane mess, and they were very accommodating. They got her room set up until I could bring her furniture. The entire staff was wonderful, making her feel comfortable and welcome and taking care of her needs.

"Assisted Living Tour: Too Much Like a Hospital Setting"
I had a good tour at the assisted living community. But it felt too much like a hospital. Many residents used wheelchairs and walkers, which my dad doesn't need right now. It wasn't the right fit for him.

"Worried About My Mom's Poor Care at This Expensive Facility"
My mom's transition to this place still needs improvement. I'm worried about the insufficient attention she's getting. The staff don't seem to focus on her or her needs. Since moving in, she's only had a single shower. I don't think it's right, considering the high cost she pays to live here. While the folks are friendly, they're not looking after my mom as they should.

"Fine Community"
My mother-in-law is doing okay since she moved to this community. There have been a couple of setbacks, but overall, we’re pleased with everything they’ve done for us. We know she’s receiving good care, and the staff, for the most part, is good. Our experience here is going well. Overall, it’s a community I would recommend.

"Friendly Community with Room for Improvement"
This place is cool. The people are friendly, but they don't talk enough. I think they should get more helpers. They give good food, lots of choices. They do lots of fun stuff she can do. She really likes the parties and music. There's a cool outside spot she likes. It's super clean here. I think other families should check it out if they need good care.

"We Are Extremely Grateful"
We absolutely love this community! My sister and I live out of state with no other family to care for our mom. We were at our wits' end. My sister worked closely with Athena and moved our mom into the facility within days! Athena went above and beyond to help our mother and was an answer to prayer, an earthly angel, for us. Words fail to express our thankfulness for all Athena has done during an extremely difficult time. She is a valuable asset, and we are extremely grateful she was here to help our family.

"Brookdale Paddock Hills to the Rescue!"
My sister and I live in PA, and our mom lives in Florida. The family member she lived with passed away, and her grief affected her ability to care for herself. Due to our own illnesses and financial circumstances, it was tough to get her the help she needed. Thanks to Brookdale Paddock Hills in Ocala, especially their sales manager, all our concerns were resolved in 3 days after 2 1/2 years of hitting brick walls. Our mom was hospitalized, then suddenly had to be discharged and needed help. A Place for Mom and Brookdale/Athena moved our mom to a nice studio Apt in their ALS unit. Their services and care are excellent and reasonably priced. We set everything up via the internet, fax, and phone. Our mom loves it there!

"Steer Clear, Promises Broken and Subpar Care at This Facility"
I can't suggest this place to anyone. This place really needs to step it up. In the start, they told my mom and me a bunch of stuff that they'd give us, but they didn't keep their word on most of it. The way they handle money is super bad. They keep trying to make my mom pay for stuff that she didn't even get. Whenever I talk to the guy in charge about this stuff, he says he'll make it better but he never does. They don't even have all the stuff they say they do. And everyone really hates the meals there. This place isn't right for anyone, they don't take good care of people.

"Great place; friendly staff!"
I toured this community with a close friend. We were greeted with smiles and instantly loved it! Even though my friend isn’t ready to move yet, she thinks this is the best place for her. I’ve talked to many facilities, but we both believe this is the right choice. We met the kitchen manager, the activities coordinator, and some aides. They were all very friendly and took time to say hello. When she’s ready to move, this will be her home.

""Not Fully Satisfied with This Assisted Living Facility!""
At first, this assisted living place seemed okay for my dad. But then, they sent him to a mental hospital and didn't tell us. It took us four days to find out where he was. My dad liked the food there and it looked pretty good to me. But they didn't really follow through with the list of activities they posted on their bulletin board. The shared spaces were kept clean, but my dad's room wasn't.

"Good People, Decent Care, Needs Better Communication"
Things are going pretty well. The staff are nice. The place is getting fixed up bit by bit. The meals are okay; my family member is fussy about food, but they’re making sure she’s eating. We hope for more talks with us about her health care. We’re figuring things out and getting used to each other. I believe it’ll all turn out fine. I’d rate them a bit over three stars, not quite four.

"Nice Facility, Not Ideal for Short Rehab Stay"
I checked out this place when I was exploring options for someone I care about. Brookdale Paddock Hills looked okay in general. The people I met during the tour were friendly, and the place seemed tidy and well-maintained. However, I don't think it would have been the perfect choice for my loved one. It seemed like they mostly focus on helping people with memory issues, but my loved one only needed a short stay for rehab.

"Highly Recommend"
I found Emeritus East to be a great fit for my 89-year-old mother who has dementia. The staff is really helpful and supportive. Everyone knows her by her first name, and she loves the friendliness shown by all. The food is excellent, though my mom only complains that there’s too much of it. But, she’ll eat anything put in front of her—old habits don’t go away. I gave 3.5 stars for activities because I’ve asked several times for them to start a walking club, which my mom loves. Even without one, she still enjoys walking. If you're considering a place for a loved one, I recommend scheduling a visit.

"Great place for my loved one!"
Things have gone really well for my loved one at Emeritus at Ocala! She was really nervous about moving, but after just a few days, she had only good things to say about her new home and how much she was enjoying it! I also like that, since they are a big chain, there is a location near me where we can move her if we ever need her closer to family.

"Ideal for sociable residents; staff support, but shy might struggle."
You gotta remind them sometimes to get things done, but that's pretty normal for these places. If your family member loves chatting and hanging out, this spot's gold. They've got loads of chances to socialize and fun stuff to do. But if your loved one's a bit quiet, it might not be their jam. The staff tries to get everyone involved, but they can only do so much.

"Mixed Feelings in Memory Care"
This place had some issues. During the tour, there was water damage, but the guide brushed it off, which was weird. The memory care area seemed nice at first, but there was a scary incident with a resident. It felt a bit awkward. However, the setup in the memory care unit was interesting, focusing on memories with cool old stuff. Overall, it was okay, but the moisture problem was concerning.
