"Brookdale: Decent Facility, Subpar Staffing, Inadequate Dementia Care"
Absolutely, I wouldn't suggest Brookdale even to my least liked person! I truly hope that none of you have to go through the dreadful experience we had with Brookdale. The place itself isn't too bad -- it's quite decent. The real issue lies with the employees. The facility lacks enough staff, and the workers present aren't equipped to deliver even the basic level of secure and proper care for people with dementia.

"Memory Care Facility: Mixed Experience with High Turnover and Neglect"
My family member stayed in the Memory Care area. At first, things were alright, but then they got worse. The good: There's a lady who's really nice and tries hard to plan activities that the people in Memory Care enjoy. My family member ate well and gained some weight, which was good. The bad and ugly: Lots of people quit their jobs here, including nurses, caregivers, bosses, and everyone. Also, because there weren't enough staff, the people who worked in the regular part of the facility had to help out in Memory Care, and sometimes temporary nurses were brought in. Those regular staff didn't know much about taking care of people with memory problems and had a tough time. The folks who cleaned the place didn't stick around, and the caregivers weren't very motivated. During the day, they didn't want to do much beyond giving medicine and meals. At night, they tried harder, but they still couldn't do everything. So, my family member's room was always dirty, with dusty stuff and sticky floors, and sometimes there were bugs. It seemed like nobody really cared about doing a good job.

"Facility Tour Impressive, But Cleanliness and Activities Lackluster"
We visited this place with a guide who was really great, but the place itself wasn't up to par. It didn't seem very clean, and there wasn't anything happening. Plus, it cost more than other options we looked at. One good thing was that it's all on one floor, and our family member could have a little porch outside.

"Assisted Living Falls Short for Loved One's Needs"
My family member didn't find what they needed here. It's more for people who need nursing care, not what they wanted. The staff was nice and careful, but there weren't many other residents around. The ones we did see seemed kinda out of it. It didn't seem like a fun place to live.

"Mixed Experience in Assisted Living: Affordable but Understaffed"
The place had fun activities like movies and painting. But sometimes our family member couldn't join due to memory problems. The food was okay. She stayed in three rooms: the first was nice, the second was cramped, and the third was terrible. It's cheap, but the staff is often not helpful or well-trained.

"Good Facility, Needs Better Food and Weekend Staff"
We picked Brookdale Southpoint for my mom because I liked what I saw when I visited. She has her own room which is a nice size for her. But, she really doesn't like the food; she says it's tasteless and lacks flavor. They've hired a new cook recently, so maybe it's gotten better. Something I think others should know is that they need more people working on weekends. Also, when they raise their prices, they go up by a lot at once.

"Pleased with the care"
We're happy that our loved one is settling in at Brookdale Southpoint. The place feels warm and welcoming, even though it's not brand new. It's super clean and well-maintained. The staff is friendly, caring, and attentive to her needs. We haven't tried the food, but it looks yummy and smells good. They also encourage residents to participate in activities. Plus, there's an outdoor area in the memory care unit for fresh air.

"Inadequate Staffing and Mistakes at Assisted Living Facility"
My sister seems secure in this facility, but I worry about the quality of her care. It seems to me that they're short on staff here. What worries me is that there's only a single aide on duty during the night, but there are 50 people living there. Additionally, they've mishandled her medications before. This place really needs to step up their game and make necessary improvements.

"Clean, Well-Brightened Rooms; Limited Social Areas, Welcoming Staff"
Nice, clean rooms that light up well. There's no small kitchen though. The spaces for activities or hanging out are quite limited and a bit tiny. But the workers are cheerful and open, most folks living here were seen in wheelchairs during our tour.

"Layout Didn't Work for Us, but Nice Tour Overall"
This community is really nice, and my tour went pretty well. The place looked good and well-maintained. The staff I met were friendly and polite. My only concern was the layout of the community. I didn't think it would be suitable for my brother and what he wanted. Overall, the tour was nice, but this community wasn't the right fit for us.

I visited this community and noticed an odor. However, the value is excellent. The friendly staff answered my questions, and the activities seemed good. The rooms were also nice. Families should check it out for themselves.

"Good care, but food needs improvement for memory care residents"
My mother is having a hard time adjusting. From what I've seen when I visit, they provide quality care. However, she doesn’t like the food. A friend of mine tried it and said it was very cold. The issue is that my mother is in memory care, so the food gets cold by the time it reaches her from the dining room. We chose this place because it’s close to me, and my mother could bring her dog. I also want to thank A Place For Mom for helping us find this community when we needed it. It was really helpful.

"Assisted Living Review: Not Quite the Perfect Match"
This place was closer to my home when I visited. The people working there were friendly, and everyone living there seemed to be having a good time chatting with each other. But, during the tour, I saw they don't have showers for people with disabilities. It just didn't seem like the right place for us.

"Renovated Southpoint, friendly staff, and great activities and food!"
Brookdale Southpoint has recently been renovated, so it looks new with fresh paint, new floors, and new furniture in all the common areas. The staff is very friendly and nice. My grandfather was worried about the activities and food, but he was happy with both.

"Doing a Great Job So Far"
So far, they are doing a great job. I would give them a high rating. I did notice a bit of a smell in the common areas. The staff is friendly, and the value is good. They are attentive and responsive, with plenty of activities. The food is good too; I’d rate it a five.

Our experience with Brookdale Southpoint went horribly. I wouldn't suggest anyone go there. My family member went in perfectly healthy, but when we left he was so weak, he couldn't leave his bed.

"Very friendly staff, great facility"
Everything has been going great at Emeritus at Southpoint! The facility is very nice and clean, and the staff are all very friendly. They’ve been great about keeping in touch with us during the whole process, and even visited our loved one while we were waiting for a room. They offer a lot in terms of care and amenities, and the food always looks good when I visit!

"Upset by smell and pointless TV at Memory Care Unit"
Felt let down even though they hinted about a possible pee smell in the Memory Care Unit. Also bummed to see a bunch of residents huddled around a pointless TV show. Visited on 7/31

"Pushy sales, musty smell, and forced friendliness at facility"
They were pushy for us to pay right away even though we said we weren't ready to do that 'today.' The whole place smelled musty, like mold or mildew. When we visited, every worker would stop and say hi, but it felt fake like they were forced to do it.

"Not overly pleased with communication and follow-through at facility"
I wasn't really impressed with this place. I felt like they lacked good communication. There was an incident where my relative suffered withdrawal because they didn't manage his medication well or refill it on time. Although they kept him clean, I don't feel they offered enough activities for mental stimulation. There were times when the nurse said he was okay, but then I'd discover the next day that he wasn't. I also had concerns about the cleanliness of his room. Some of the caregivers were friendly, but the head nurse was not very responsive. I think the problems mainly stem from the higher-ups. They didn't fulfill promises like taking residents on outings, providing mailbox keys, or hanging pictures outside the rooms.

I've been really happy with the service my mom received at the assisted living facility. She was there for day stays, about six hours a day, five days a week. When I arrived in the mornings, everything was well-organized, and the housekeeping staff was busy tidying up. The overall staff was fantastic—friendly, personable, and professional. They quickly learned her name and greeted her every morning with smiles. The care provided was minimal but thoughtful. They made sure my mom had breakfast, lunch, and snacks, and they even administered her medicine. Since she was diabetic, they went out of their way to keep her away from sugary and high-carb foods. When she had trouble taking her pills, they crushed them up for her. I appreciated how they kept me informed about her well-being, especially if she was having a tough day. The facility had a resting room specifically for day program participants, which was great. They seemed prepared for various situations and followed a schedule. I always knew what activities were planned. While they did something different each day, they maintained a consistent weekly routine. My only concern was that the administrative staff wasn't always available early in the morning. The nursing and dining staff were present, but the officials and admin staff weren't around until later. It would have been nice to have someone available earlier to discuss any issues related to my mom. Overall, though, I was pleased with the care provided. – she

"Questionable Refund Policy at Appealing Assisted Living Facility"
The big problem was their payment setup - it was some sort of medal system deal: gold, silver, bronze. If you decided to cough up a hefty sum at the start, your monthly cost was a tad cheaper. However, if your loved one passed away soon, you didn't get any refunds. I was looking for a place for my mother-in-law there and it seemed like a nice spot. The staff also appeared amiable during my single visit.
