"Affordable Assisted Living with Full Amenities and Friendly Staff"
Brookdale Southside offers apartments with full kitchens and washer/dryers, which was a big plus for us. The meals in the dining room are okay but simple. The staff there is super helpful and nice, and they make things easy for us. Every week, the Executive Director sends out a newsletter to keep everyone informed. The cost is reasonable at the beginning, but it goes up by 15% every year. Despite the increasing cost, it's still the right place for my mom.

"Assisted Living Facility Falls Short, Lacks Adequate Staff Support"
My mom stayed at Brookdale Southside. It was hard at first because they didn't have enough workers, so she often waited for help. Nobody guided her around, so she felt lonely. Sadly, she ended up in the hospital again after three weeks due to bedsores. She won't be going back there. I don't suggest this place until they improve. However, some of the staff were nice.

"Feels Like Home with Great Activities and Good Value"
We checked out some places, but Brookdale Southside really caught our loved one's eye - he took to it right away, saying it felt cozy and welcoming, not cold or unwelcoming at all. There's always something fun to do, and he says the food tastes great, though it's often the same stuff. All in all, we think it's worth it for all the stuff you get.

"Good choice for assisted living with minor maintenance delays; transparent about Covid."
I think it's a good place to consider. There have been a few problems, but they're fixable. When we've asked for repairs, we've had to wait about four days, which isn't too bad. I appreciate that they're clear and keep us informed about Covid.

"Great Living Spot, But Needs Better Food Service"
The place is really clean and nice to look at. Almost everyone working here is nice and helpful. Their dining hall is having a hard time though. They don't have enough staff to serve so meal times are pretty long. If you ask for food to be sent to your room, it arrives cold. The people in charge are trying their best to solve the issue, but they say they're finding it difficult to hire new staff. Despite these issues, I'm still pleased living here and would suggest others to consider it.

We visited this community and used their service for a few days. We were not happy that he got an injury while there. However, the staff provided good care. We liked the menu, and there are activities for residents who can join in. We recommend families to tour this place to see if it fits their loved one’s needs. We did feel they sometimes lacked enough staff.

"Comfortable and welcoming assisted living with great amenities and staff."
The people taking care of my mom are really nice. The person who helps with advertising was also really nice and answered all our questions. The outside area is really pretty. They have a path to walk on, a nice gazebo, and a pretty lake behind the building. Inside, they have a garden with butterflies and hummingbirds. It feels nice to be there. They have a lot of things that my mom likes to do, and they make sure she's included in different activities. I think other people would like it here too.

I'll update this later, but so far it's been great. The people helping me move in know their stuff and have been really helpful. The food's good, but a bit too quiet for my taste. The place looks nice, parking's fine, and they have lots of things planned to do. Plus, they let you bring your pet, which was super important to me. Winston, my dog, loves it here too. I'm sure I made the right choice for my new relaxed life.

"Wonderful Community with Exceptional Service"
This place is amazing with great service and real value! It could be even better with some volunteer programs like faith groups and NGOs visiting with fun activities, especially artistic ones. Maybe a fundraiser for a piano and other volunteers could help. Big companies often have charity programs that could donate items like musical instruments. Aromatherapy in common areas would be nice for everyone’s well-being.

"Major Quality Decline Under Profit-Driven New Management"
My Mom's been living here for a long time. She's noticed how the services, particular the food quality, have gotten worse as the prices keep going up. It used to be when she first moved in, and she really liked it then. But after Brookdale took over, it's clear they just care about making money, even at the elders' expense. My Mom would definitely live somewhere else if she could. If you're considering moving here, make sure to ask a lot of questions and check out other places too. It might seem nice at first glance, but once you're living there, you'll quickly notice how they prioritize profits over people. They charge a lot but provide little in return.

"Brookdale Disrespects Seniors With Unfair Water Crisis!"
On January 7th, folks at Brookdale were told there'd be no water due to construction on January 10, 2016, at 9:00 PM. They could only use it again after boiling for at least a minute. Plus, Brookdale Southside then wanted to sell them bottled water for $12.00 with no mention of the size. Not cool. They finally cleared the water for use on January 14, 2015. Here are my issues: 1. This concerns people paying a lot of money for assisted or independent senior living. Having no water for four days is unacceptable. 2. This is a place with a lot of different types of residents. Not everyone grabs the daily paper from the mailroom. 3. $12.00 for water? Seriously? I bought my mom several 2.5-gallon jugs from Publix for just $2.75 each. 4. Seniors tend to be at a higher risk when exposed to coliform bacteria. 5. Brookdale was running the construction, they should have supplied the water for free. 6. For convenience, the dining room became paper plates, plastic utensils, and paper cups central. But try slicing a tough piece of pork with a plastic knife. Shame on Brookdale - you didn't think of the needs of your people during this construction. It was more than annoying, charging for water seemed disrespectful, particularly as many can't drive or carry loads of water. And you weren't looking out for everyone. A lack of communication on your part.

"Dad feels happy and has a busy life!"
I absolutely love this community for my dad! He was so lonely at home, but now he has a busy schedule every day. He has made lots of friends in the Independent Living area. The food is getting better now that there’s a new director. They just updated the whole place with new carpets, paint, fixtures, and more. It looks great! He has a regular apartment with a washer, dryer, and dishwasher. Their apartments are bigger than others I’ve seen. The campus is large, but my dad learned his way around after a week or two. It’s not home, but it’s the best option. Now he says he feels like he has a life again. The staff is friendly and efficient. Plus, I’m happy to know there’s staff available 24/7, and he can add medical care to his apartment if he needs it later. Sure, this place is pricier than others, but you get what you pay for in Jacksonville! This place is worth it.

"Absolutely Huge"
It's owned by the same people who own The Atrium. It's much bigger and spread out. They have more land. Independent living happens in condos and townhomes, across a lake from the assisted living building. It feels like a really large apartment complex. There's even a bank and a CVS pharmacy inside the community. It's a very, very large place, and it's newer. My dad lives there, but he thinks it's hard to get around without a motorized power chair. "Dissatisfied: Unappetizing Food and Faulty Facilities"
I brought my dad to live here, and we're not completely happy. The meals aren't tasty, and I see what he means! He's involved in some activities like playing bridge. There's a pool, but they only have swimming one day per week. They've already shut down the pool, which is disappointing. The building's layout isn't the best. He has to walk a quarter mile just to get to the dining area. We liked another location better, but dad wanted to keep his dog. He has a corner unit so he can take his dog outside. He's not allowed to walk his dog through the halls. The kitchen is old looking, with fixtures from the 80's. It's pricey - dad got a "bargain" for $2900, but it'll increase to $3800 after 18 months. His unit has two bedrooms. He has a maid come in once a week for cleaning in his independent living unit, but that's about it.
