"Great for activities, dietary needs, and fostering independence, but..."
I think this place is okay for someone else. Overall, they do a good job of giving residents things to do and making sure they get involved. They also make sure to take care of their special food needs, and they treat them nicely, helping them to be more independent. I chose this place because they said my mom could have a room to herself for at least a month before they even thought about giving her a roommate. The decision to have a roommate was mainly about how much it cost and how close it is to my house.

"Mixed Feelings About Palmetto Landing Assisted Living Facility"
Palmetto Landing was like a coin flip for me. It looks old, really old, and seems a bit worn out. Small stuff like stains on the carpet and funny smells in some spots. The people working there were really nice, though, and everyone I saw living there seemed pretty content.

"Mixed Feelings About Palmetto Landing Assisted Living"
When we visited Palmetto Landing, we met a bunch of different folks. The place seemed big, and I thought it might be tough for someone with a walker to get around. Plus, it cost a lot more, but I didn't see any extra stuff that made it worth the price.

"Assisted Living Staff Goes Above and Beyond for Residents"
The staff at the assisted living facility were very kind, friendly, and helpful. They made sure my mom felt comfortable during her stay. They kept us informed regularly and were good at communicating. Despite being short-staffed, they managed well and took good care of my mom.

"Terrible Facility With Unqualified Staff, Unproven Assault Claim"
This place is truly terrible! Majority of the staff lack proper certification in home health care or as a Certified Nursing Assistant. They don't even communicate effectively in English. I noticed one man who always worked double time, catching his sleep at night while on duty. Worse, my loved one claimed he hit and attempted sexual assault on them. Due to my loved one's memory issues, it's easy for others to question their account. However, I believe something did indeed occur. I am certain of no rape since we saw a doctor. Nonetheless, it was distressing.

My family used this place for another loved one. I didn't notice any differences from our last visit. They insisted on testing my loved one every week because they hadn't gotten the vaccine yet, but I didn't think it was necessary.

"Quality Care Over Sales: Ideal for Independent Loved Ones"
During your tour, focus on how well they care for residents, not just what they try to sell you. Make sure to ask plenty of questions so you really know what they provide. I think this place is a good choice if your loved one can do a lot on their own.

"Mixed Feelings About Assisted Living Community"
Our family visited the assisted living facility in person, and overall, it was a positive experience. The community was well-maintained. However, we noticed that most residents were older and required more assistance than we were seeking. The community had a traditional feel.

"Close, Small Rooms, Okay Food, Some Extra Services Needed"
We picked Palmetto Landing because it's near where my sister and I live. The rooms are small but good enough for her needs. The food is alright. We had to bring in some extra care services because they don't offer everything. I would recommend this place.

"Palmetto Landing Is a Disaster for Dementia Patients"
Palmetto Landing Is Failing Those in Memory Care, My Dad Included" My time dealing with Palmetto Landing was just awful. My dad, who has diabetes and early-stage dementia, lived there. We had talked to the director, nurses, and doctor about his health needs when he moved in. After three months they still hadn't checked his blood sugar. We found this out the hard way, when he ended up in the ER with dangerous blood sugar levels. As a nurse myself, this just blows my mind. They kept talking about changes in his behavior, but never checked his blood sugar levels. This is just not okay. I also had to deal with the extremely rude wellness director. She would talk down to me on the phone and always call me about stuff my dad was doing "incorrectly." She never offered help for improving his life. Their memory care section isn't up to par, not when I compare it to places that really give good care and attention. My dad was treated badly and neglected at Palmetto Landing. When visiting unexpectedly, I would find him in the same dirty clothes he was wearing five days earlier and there would be rotten food in his mini-fridge. This place just isn't safe for memory care patients. My dad stayed here for a torturous four months while we looked for a better place. His treatment was disrespectful and downright lousy. He even started acting out more, but no one wanted to help him. They even called me in the middle of the night to offload him to the ER, threatening to not accept him back. On a holiday weekend, they gave me a mere two hours notice that my dad had to have hired care or they would drop him off at the hospital. Thankfully, the hired caregivers gave me the inside scoop on the facility. It turns out my dad's behavior issues pretty much vanished once we moved him to a better facility. It's really scary for someone with dementia to be around new people in a new place. But a good facility will do its best to provide comfort and guidance, unlike Palmetto Landing. They just yelled at the residents and expected them to magically change their behavior.

"Appalling Care and Poor Treatment at Palmetto Landing Facility"
My experience with Palmetto Landing was terrible. My dad has diabetes and the beginning stages of dementia. When we moved him in, we met with the head of the home, the nurses, and his doctor to discuss his care. But, after three months and an emergency trip to the hospital, I found out they had not been checking his blood sugar. It was dangerously high. They kept talking about his mental state changing but never thought to check his blood sugar levels. This was just not okay to me, especially as a nurse. The boss of the nurses was always mean to me on the phone, talked down to me, and would call to complain about my dad's actions, even though he had dementia. She never offered any helpful suggestions. The memory care part of the home was really not good. I've seen memory care homes that are truly caring and supportive. My dad didn't get that at Palmetto Landing. He was treated poorly and not looked after. Often times, I would visit without warning and find my dad in the same clothes from five days earlier, with dirty clothes in his room and bad food in his fridge. This place is just not safe as a memory care home for many reasons. My dad lived there for difficult four months. They didn't respect him and treated him badly. He started behaving differently and no one wanted to help get him any help. They called me a lot in the middle of the night saying my dad was causing trouble. They once even threatened to take him to the hospital and leave him there. They gave me only two hours notice on a holiday weekend to hire a personal carer for my dad or they'd leave him at the hospital. So, I hired someone to look after him and keep him safe until we could move him. That carer told me about the truly bad things happening at the home. My dad's changed behaviour was due to the lack of respect at Palmetto Landing, and it mostly stopped once we moved him to a better home where they knew how to care for someone with dementia. It's scary for someone with dementia to be in a new place with strangers looking after them, and people coming into their rooms at all times and yelling. A really good memory care home will make sure to reduce these scary things as much as possible, comforting residents and not yelling at them.

"Downright Disgusting: Our Four Days of Nightmare"
This place was downright terrible and we managed to move Dad out after just 4 days. They and weren't offering satisfactory safety. Dad was left in a dirty state for hours, and even a whole day from the time we left him. The bathroom was filthy, filled with unhygienic things and despite promising to clean it up by the time we returned from a meeting, they failed to do so. They didn't even apologize. When we tried to talk to the manager, she said she'd ring us, but we never got a call. We asked for our money back and even suggested they only keep the money for the 4 days Dad was there. This whole facility is really unhealthy and our experience there was downright awful. I'd warn everyone against it.

"Steer Clear: Poor care and questionable management!"
“We moved Mom into the Assisted Living wing of this place about 3.5 years back. We picked it because of her Alzheimers, knowing eventually she'd shift to the Memory Care Unit. The first few years were okay, but by end of 2015 we noticed the standards slipping. Care and cleanliness took a hit. Every time we flagged it, we only got a bunch of excuses and empty promises. It finally saw improvement, but only 3 days before Mom passed. The place’s manager wasn't exactly a breath of fresh air either.

"Great Place, Meals Need Adjusting"
Brookdale at Tuskawilla is really nice. It’s clean and tidy. The stuff to do there is good, and the trips out are nice too. The people who work there are always nice and pay attention. The only thing that could be better, and why I didn’t give it 5 stars, is that the meal times are an hour too early for my friend.

"Nice, but Memory Care Unit Was Small"
We looked at this community and took a tour. The staff was nice, but their memory care unit was small. We couldn’t keep my parents together in memory care because one of them didn’t need it. They would have been close, but not together. It felt a bit small and cramped. The place also felt more clinical and not very homey.

"Shocking Neglect at Supposed Care Facility"
If your relative needs help, avoid this assisted living center! They never have enough staff and the air conditioning is always broken. The employees are hard to deal with, and the managers aren't any better. The nurses and CNA's simply don't care. Try getting assistance after 5pm on a weekend and you'll be shocked. Medication carts are left alone in the halls, telephone calls aren't answered and go to a fax line instead! They failed to provide for our family member the services we were promised. The bathrooms are never thoroughly cleaned - they rarely clean the floors and shower, they just wipe the surface. There are even cockroaches in the rooms - it's a horrible place!

"Fair Staff, But Facility and Social Opportunities Fall Short"
The staff here are very nice, but I'm not satisfied with the building itself. I wasn't well-informed when I first checked it out. They didn't show me the room until after my mom moved in and by then it was too late to reconsider. The room doesn't have a kitchen sink, which was a surprise. It does have a bathroom, but my mother really hoped for a sink in the kitchen area. The carpet in the room and hallways has a bad odor and I'm unsure why they don't just replace it. It's not inviting at all. The smell hits you the moment you step into the corridor and it's not pleasant. As a nurse, I know a facility's smell is a big deal. Also, my mom is struggling to find people on her intellectual level to connect with. Many residents have been there for a long time and it seems like they are not as mentally active as my mom. It feels more like a nursing home than an assisted living facility. My mom isn't interested in Bingo and such, she's looking for a little more stimulation.

A Place for Mom's website swiftly directed us to suitable options for our family and our 93-year-old grandmother. We settled on Emeritus after exploring five places. Their resources kept us on track. Now, our grandma gets the extra care and social interaction she needs. We're pleased overall. While we're still learning to communicate effectively and prevent health issues with Emeritus, we're satisfied. The facility is tidy, and the staff is nice and helpful. "A Facility Lacks Spanish-Speakers and Activity Options for Able Residents"
This assisted living facility needs more Spanish-speaking employees. I need to move my aunt out because she can't communicate properly due to the language barrier. I was led to believe that my aunt, who is pretty able and needs less care, would be able to participate in the activities provided. However, most of these activities are not designed for people like her. It's a good place overall; it could just use a few improvements. Some more Spanish-speaking staff would also be ideal. Furthermore, activities that cater to more able people, like my aunt, would greatly make it better. The food is palatable but it lacks flavor. It could definitely benefit from some more seasoning. I was also a bit taken aback by the small area designated for memory care. It would be a much better setup if this area were larger to allow residents to move around more freely.
