"Attentive Staff & Pet-Friendly"

The staff always listen and quickly address our concerns. They’re pet-friendly and have a helpful bulletin board.

"Unfair Pricing and Poor Service at Brookdale West Melbourne FL"

" 'The Brookdale West Melbourne FL, Building 2 Assisted Living isn't recommended at all... Don't even think about putting your loved one there unless they have no idea where they are... It's super expensive and they play a bait-and-switch game with their pricing - they give you one quote, then bill you a different amount and by then it's too late because they have your voided check... The nursing staff is always upset and they just don't seem to know what they're doing. I'm reporting them to the state for abuse towards older folks right away.

"Awful Facility; Overpriced, Poor Service and Lack of Care"

Absolutely awful! Don't bring anyone you care about to this place. Be wary, they will initially quote you one price and later bill you a different amount, taking advantage whatever they can since they have the automatic payment details. My dad was there for only 20 days, but he was charged for 31 days (over $9600) despite having given them a written notice in advance. They didn't even order his necessary medication on time and ran out. Also, the housekeeping service pretty much just entails vacuuming. Despite requests to give sleeping medication later in the evening, they consistently provide it at 7pm and mandate watching the patients swallow it. After a fortnight, they altered the medication my father had been taking for years without notifying me or consultation with specialists. Attempts to contact them post-agreement signing were usually greeted by silence. The residents are treated like children, being told where to sit in the dining area. The claimed entertainment is mere Bingo and a piano session every night by a resident who doesn't articulate much. My high-functioning Alzheimer father had nobody to converse with due to the residents being more suited for Memory Care, not Assisted Living. It appears they keep them there since the profit is higher compared to Memory Care. If your loved one is not comatose and wealthy, I’d strongly advise against bringing them to this place.

"Mixed Experience at Assisted Living Facility"

I like that everything's on the same floor. But I'm even happier because there's no cold air coming in directly. However, they've messed up the bills a few times. Most of the staff have been really nice. But I'm not happy about my mom's diet. She's diabetic and eats too many carbs.

"Disappointing Experience at Brookdale Assisted Living"

My dad stayed here while my folks were in Florida. It's close to their place, and we could organize rides to their center twice a week. But the stuff they said they'd do at Brookdale? Not even close. Dealing with paperwork was a mess. Took months and lots of calls just to get our insurance sorted, and then more months and more calls to get our deposit back, even though everything was settled.

"Avoid Brookdale W Melbourne for Elder Care"

Stay away from Brookdale W Melbourne if you truly care for your elderly loved ones! The lack of worthwhile activities is a real downer, with the only exception being the sporadic musicians, and it's been this way since a key staff member departed in 2016. The personnel there include overworked, frustrated individuals. The kitchen staff often have to moonlight as caregivers due to constant shortages in staffing levels. The Executive Director conducts herself in a truly unkind manner, inspiring fear in the staff. Having call buttons seems futile because the response time is so slow. The residents voice complaints about numerous things like the quality of food, insufficiency of activities, slow response times and insufficient cleanliness. All in all, it paints a pretty grim picture with a very disheartening atmosphere.

"Crucial Care Lacking in Assisted Living Facility"

1. We weren't given the price list (Exhibit Z) during our visit, even though we were clear that my grandma's income was fixed, and she wouldn't be able to afford anything much higher than $3500. Adding just two services in a week makes it unaffordable for her. 2. Grandma moved in on Wednesday the 4th, and no one bathed her or cleaned her room for a whole week, despite us paying for these services. 3. Even after we explained how shy my grandma is, their promised 'welcoming committee' never showed. On her first day, she had to wander around trying to find a place to eat, then had an accident because she didn't know where the bathroom was. It was my mom who ended up cleaning her and getting her the welcome packet and activities list. She even missed her second dinner because she was unsure of the timing and got lost. 4. Grandma got out of rehab with a catheter, which is new for all of us. Nurse Amanda, who was supposed to teach us how to use it, acted really rude, like it was beneath her to do it. 5. On her fourth night, Grandma fell out of bed. She said the night staff were supposed to check in every 2-4 hours, but we don't know when they last checked. Even though she rang her call bell and knocked on the wall for the neighbor to hear, nobody came until 7:30 the next morning. It's been less than a week, and the care at this facility has already been terrible, even bordering on neglectful. I can't recommend this place to anyone.

"Pet-Friendly Assisted Living with Pleasant Staff and Activities"

We went to check out this place, and the people there were nice. They let you bring your pets along, which is cool. It seems like they have some fun stuff to do too. The place itself looked neat and like they keep it in good shape.

"Positive Experience in Assisted Living Facility"

My husband has been here just over a month. It's been good. He's settled, making friends, staff friendly. Facility clean.

"So Far Very Pleased"

My husband hasn't been here very long, just a little over a month or so. But overall, it's been a positive experience. He's settled in nicely, making friends and socializing. The staff is friendly and nice. The housekeeping team does an excellent job keeping the facility clean and well-maintained. I assume he likes the food because there haven't been any complaints so far. Overall, we're pleased with our experience and hope it continues.

"Security Concerns at Assisted Living Community"

I didn't like the tour. The place seemed unsafe. I wouldn't want Dad living there.

"Lacks Adequate Security"

I wasn't too happy with my visit to this place. They didn't seem to focus too much on safety, which bothered me. I wouldn't want my dad to stay here.

"Memory Care Provides Better Service but Costs More"

My mom is now in memory care because there weren’t enough nurses in assisted living. The staff is very friendly and helpful, but if your parent isn’t completely self-sufficient (needs help with meds, showering, or going to meals and activities), you’ll be charged for everything they do, bit by bit. Memory care is more expensive but covers everything. We felt rushed to make this big decision and felt pressured to move quickly. I think my mom will be happy and well cared for, but I wish we had done more research.

"Poor Care and Exorbitant Fees at Brookdale Alzheimer's Home"

Brookdale Alzheimer's Home was absolutely terrible. My spouse was given so much medication that he couldn't walk on his own, which caused him to fall and get hurt several times. He ended up with swollen legs and untreated sores. The bathroom he was supposed to use was disgustingly dirty and smelled awful because the toilet was clogged. Nobody seemed to know how to fix it. He was only there for 20 days, but it felt like he was treated like trash. The food was awful. They claim to be a "secure facility," but he managed to get out five times. When given the choice to either take him home or hire someone to watch him around the clock, I ended up paying over $3000 for a week. On top of the $3000 I paid when he first got there, I was hit with another bill for over $7000 after he left. Brookdale seems to be all about taking your money with as little help as possible. There were more people in management than actual caregivers.

""High Priced Facility with Poor Care and Dirty Conditions""

Brookdale's Alzheimer's Home is a complete disaster. My spouse was overly medicated, so much so that he needed support to walk which led to many falls and injuries. His legs got swollen, and untreated wounds surfaced. His bathroom was disgustingly unclean with a terrible odor. The toilet was blocked and no one had a clue how to fix it. He stayed there for nearly three weeks and experienced awful care. The food was awful and the facility's security was so weak that he managed to escape five times. I was then forced to either pull him out or hire constant care, which ran me a bill over $3000 for a week. I had already paid over $3000 upon admission, and shortly after his departure, was hit with another monumental bill exceeding $7000. It's clear to see that it's a greedy establishment, offering minimum assistance but stuffed with lots of suits doing nothing.

"Friendly Assisted Living with Room for Improvement"

Brookdale West Melbourne does a pretty good job overall. The facility looks nice, and the rooms are a good size for the price. They offer lots of activities and amenities for residents. The food is impressive, and the staff is friendly and professional. However, they could improve their cleaning service, especially in my loved one's bathroom.

"Overall a positive experience, with room for improvement."

Overall, I think Brookdale West Melbourne does a good job. The facility looks nice, and the rooms are a good size for the price. They offer lots of activities and amenities for residents. The food is particularly impressive! The staff is friendly and professional, always ready to help. However, they could improve their cleaning service. My loved one’s bathroom needs more attention, and personal cleanliness could be better.

"Staff is Great, But Activities Need Work"

The activities could be better. Overall, the staff is really nice, helpful, and informative. It seems like they might be short on staff, which could be why there aren’t as many activities. Other than that, I think they’re doing okay.

"Decent Daytime Care, Limited Staffing at Night"

The people here are really nice, but I think they may not have enough staff due to the rules set by their company. The care provided during the day is good, but at night it decreases, probably because they don't have enough workers.

"Employees Seem Bored, Facility Dark and Lonely"

Saw uninterested employees with residents. Too many dim, lonely rooms. Not certain this place will be good for mom, but it could work for someone who prefers being on their own.

"Excellent Care and Comfort Found Here"

I'm really impressed with this assisted living facility! It's super clean and the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. They're working hard to add more activities, which is great. I love the atmosphere - it's not too overwhelming, but a bit more socializing would be nice. The food is decent, but could use a bit more flavor. Maybe some gravy or sauce would make it more exciting! Overall, they're doing a fantastic job!

"Decent Care, Questionable Fees at Senior Home"

I’ve only seen one place for seniors, and they were pretty good at taking care of my family member. The building was nice and clean, and most people working there were nice. They didn’t have enough staff, but everyone worked super hard. The main problem was how much they charged. They added extra costs for more help my family member needed. Since they didn’t have a lot of workers, I’m not sure they really did all the extra stuff we paid for. Also, I didn’t like that they only told us about a big $2,000 fee when we were about to sign the papers to move in.

"Decent Care, Questionable Fees at Senior Living Facility"

I've only dealt with one senior living community, and by and large, they took pretty good care of my family member. The place itself was tidy and well maintained, and most of the staff were nice. However, I did notice they were short-staffed but they still worked really hard. My main complaint was their pricing structure. They added lots of extra charges for additional services that my family member required, but I'm not sure they were able to properly perform these extra tasks due to being short-staffed, which made me question the cost. It bothered me that the first time they mentioned the $2,000 “community fee” was when we were about to sign the move-in documents.

"Great care, good value, clean and modern facility"

The care services here are great. It’s a good deal for what you pay. We looked at many memory care homes, and this one stands out because it’s clean, modern, and recently updated with fresh paint. My loved one enjoyed the food.

"Mixed Review: Assisted Living Facility Offers Inconsistent Service, Menu"

Assisted Living Facility's Food Favors Chicken, Fruits Scarce. The taste is either great, okay, or downright bad sometimes. They seem to love serving chicken; it's on the menu every two days. Their fruits and vegetables mostly come from cans, and honestly, they taste like metal. They definitely should be giving out more fruit. Relative to the monthly menu and activities, they're not accurate. What's written there doesn't match what's really served or done here. Only one person organizes the activities and if she's unavailable, there's no replacement. But, there are really wonderful people working here during the day. They are stretched thin and overworked, the result of the company's intense focus on profits.

"Top-Notch Care and Value"

This assisted living facility is super clean and friendly. We're thrilled with the great value for all the care services they provide. Compared to another facility we tried, this one offers more for less. My elderly mom needs extra help, and she never has to wait long. They have fun activities like Bingo, crafts, and word games a few times a week. However, I wish they had more options for residents like my mom who are still sharp mentally. We chose this facility because they're licensed for high-level care, and the healthcare is top-notch. They always keep me informed about any changes in my mom's condition.

"Families feel included!"

Sterling House goes above and beyond to involve families. They make sure residents don’t feel left out or just dropped off. We've been invited for lunch multiple times, and it's very affordable. They have a regular newsletter to keep families informed and a calendar of events for residents. Before my mom moved in, they invited me to seminars about transitioning to assisted living, which was very helpful. They even invited us for a tour and lunch with my mom and a friend. They really bent over backwards to help. It was excellent, and my mother loves it there.

"Trustworthy Staff"

Even though it might cost more later, we can afford it. Right now, they help with laundry, meals, and meds. They organize activities, like the recent play she attended. Occasionally, they treat residents to dinner. The paperwork process needs improvement I had to fill out forms multiple times. The staff is friendly, and my mom appreciates them. They listen to her, especially the RN she trusts.

"Very Unhappy Experience at Poorly Run Senior Facility"

We really weren't fans of this place. When the cook was absent, nursing assistants had to prepare the meals. When they couldn't, the handymen filled in as cooks. My aunt was really unhappy there. I made sure to express how I felt and quickly moved her somewhere else. Plus, everything needed extra payment - even for a simple shower. She previously lived in a Brookdale senior community in Rhode Island - this place was nowhere near as good. The residents were quite elderly and she found it tough to connect with them. We opted for it mainly due to the $2500 community fee that my aunt didn't have to pay again, seeing as she was transferring from another Brookdale community.

"Parents Disliked Small, Gloomy, Unfriendly Assisted Living Facility"

My folks really didn't enjoy this place. It was tiny and dim. The only person who talked to us was the lady showing us around. The people living there looked empty, upset, or mad. The eating area was silent, nobody was talking.

"Quiet Residential Setting"

We picked this place after checking out four others, and Sterling House had the right level of care. It's in a quiet residential area.
