"Expensive and Unsatisfactory Experience at Canterfield of Clay"
Canterfield of Clay isn't at all what it appears. The rate they tell you is only the beginning. They charge you for EVERYTHING! If you can't make it to the dining hall, they bill you. Be a smidge over your medical appointment distances, they bill you. If you need a touch more help from the staff, they bill you. It's like they're trying to empty your bank account the minute you move in. The staff is young and immature. They goof around loudly in the halls all night and are never around when needed. The food is the absolute worst. You're never certain what's in the soup of the day, let alone the actual meal. Posting the daily menu seems too hard for them. Don't let these predators bleed your life savings dry!

"Mom loves it; she’s happy and well cared for."
My best day was when my mother said, 'I really like being here... they take good care of me.' That’s when I knew I made the right choice. Thank you for making resident care a priority. Mom is content and well cared for, which gives me peace of mind. Thanks for loving my mom too.

"Review: The Apartments are Too Small"
The apartments here are just too tiny for our liking.

"Facility Fails to Deliver on Promises, Disappoints Residents"
This place isn't living up to what we were promised when we signed the contract. It's a new facility, so I'm hoping they'll sort things out soon. Right now, things aren't working as they should. The spa doesn’t work at all, there’s a beauty salon with no beautician, and the exercise room is always locked— they say we need someone to watch us to use it. They’ve reduced the staff too, saying it’s because there aren't enough people living here yet. We were told the dining would be like a restaurant, but after they had a Veterans Day event, we ended up eating leftovers for a week with no other choices. There's also a gazebo that got destroyed in a hurricane and hasn't been fixed. Everyone ends up sitting out front in wheelchairs and hospital gowns, which doesn’t look good to people visiting. I really think they should take better care of everyone's cleanliness. It's a nice-looking place, but it feels more like a nursing home, which it isn't supposed to be. I just hope it starts to live up to its advertisements soon.

"Facility Fails to Deliver on Promises, Feels Like Nursing Home"
This place isn't living up to what we were promised when we signed the contract. It's brand new and I'm willing to give them time to work out the bugs. Right now, nothing is running as it should. The spa, for example, has never worked. They've set up a beauty salon but there's no beautician. The exercise room is always locked and we've been told we can't use it without a staff member present, but the staff has been reduced due to low resident numbers. They said we would have a restaurant-style meal setup and cited a Veterans Day banquet as an example. For a whole week afterward, we ended up with the banquet leftovers. The facility lacks options. The gazebo was destroyed by a hurricane and hasn't been replaced. So, the residents often wait outside in wheelchairs and gowns, which isn't a great look for potential visitors. Overall, they need to pay more attention to the cleanliness of the residents. It's a lovely place, but it feels more like a nursing home than the luxury living they advertised. I hope the promises made will be fulfilled soon.

"Good Memory Care"
My family member is in the memory care part of the facility, and they’re getting good care. The staff knows what they’re doing, and the doctor checks on them weekly. The place is kept clean, and there are activities like bingo and bus trips. The only issue is the limited phone hours. Overall, it’s a nice place.

"A wonderful place for mom!"
Canterfield of Clay County is a beautiful, brand new community. We moved my mother in just before the hurricane, and the staff was more than accommodating. They were very helpful, quick to act, and really caring. My mother hadn’t been eating well before, but she enjoyed the food at Canterfield and started eating much better. I would highly recommend this community to others.
